“Beautiful, but watch out for the wind.”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

We visited by bus which meant peak hours and load of people, this was expected though and didn't bother us much. If you're looking for a quiet spot wade out to the island.

Watch the wind forecast before you go, the day we went was totally still on the Chania side of Crete but once we got to Elafonissi the wind was quite tough which meant flying sand became a real problem after a while and we had to move closer to the crowd where it wasn't as much of an issue since the sand was wet.

Practical stuff: There are showers at the beach to get all the sand and sand off your skin, there's also changing booths and a bathroom which costs 0,5€. Theres a few cafe/markets which sell snacks/food/beer etc so you won't starve if you forgot you'r lunch. The road to the beach(from Chania) wasn't too bad, the tunnel was open.

This beach definitely deserves(requires, almost) a visit when visiting Crete, for a perfect time visit early in the day or late evening on a day with less wind.

PS: Don't forget your sunscreen since shadow is pretty much non-existant unless you get a sunbed (7€)

A beach of unique location, colors, of a wonderfully coral-colored sand, of relaxing hot waters and ample space to lie down and play by the sea!! Wonderful!! Necessary visit during your stay at Crete!! Recommended!!

“Magical”
Reviewed 3 August 2013

This beach is so worth the drive through the mountain, the villages along the way are all part of the experience

We went later in the day so that we arrived at 3.45 so that we missed a lot of the tour bus people.
