“Fantastic Wedding Venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2013

I recently attended a wedding here and the venue was brilliant over the two days.

It's a beautifully restored building with lots of nooks and crannies. The staff were polite and friendly. The food served at the wedding was just superb, especially the fish soup which I thought was the highlight and I'm still thinking of it 4 weeks later. The day was mostly warn and sunny, and we took advantage of the beautiful grounds for a walk.

I had read the previous negative comments before I attended, and there was nothing in my experience that agreed with those other reviewers. Nothing wrong with the carpark - sure it's a small walk away from the main house - 150 feet? - and it has gravel, but I didn't see any "rubble". The food was brilliant, both on the day of the wedding, and the following day. Drink prices at the bar are more expensive that the local pub down the road - but nothing mad. I didn't stay at the venue, so I can't comment on anything else personally, but on asking the next day, nobody had any problems.

We got married here mid September 2013 and it was amazing. The food was outstanding, the staff were brilliant. We had the house for two days and our guests were delighted to have the house for the next day. To be honest I was unlucky enough to have read some of the poor reviews the week before our wedding and it scared the life out of me. The staff at MPH were extremely understanding and genuinely baffled. I was very careful to poll people and everyone's food was great. In answer to some specific points there is loads of hot water if you let it run, we had no problem with breastfeeding in any room, the bus ran til 6 am (but some runs are long) and there is a lift for use. I can 100% recommend it for a wedding. One tip: get a good band with proper equipment for the hall or get the to go acoustic.

Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback we are so happy you and your guests had a great time at Middleton Park House.

We are genuinely baffled as to why people can be so malicious, we just want our guests to be comfortable and have fun and for our brides and grooms to have their perfect days; we work hard to always achieve that.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon and congratulations on your wedding, we were happy to be a part of it.

We were at a wedding here recently and the whole experience was so disappointing. From walking through rubble from the carpark, getting stale sandwiches on arrival and some guests waited over 45mins after everyone else for their meal. The decor is shabby on the bottom floor, waitresses rude and rooms were freezing. To top it off there was no hot water nore breakfast the next morning.I wont be returning.

The Bride and Groom of the wedding you attended advised us when their guests are due to arrive in the house from their ceremony. This includes the time takes in travel time to the venue. We prepare food to be ready for the first guests arriving. All our canapés are made on the day of the wedding. We stagger service to try and ensure that all guests get fresh canapés. Our sandwiches are served on lightly toasted fresh bread. You may confuse lightly toasted with stale, and perhaps have not experience this standard of fine food before.

Middleton Park House was comprehensively restored in 2007. The lower ground floor is beautiful and was recently redecorated costing in excess of €20k and we do not accept it is any way shabby and many others consider elegant and classic. The house is over 200 years old and has a certain patina of age which may not be to your liking

The refurbishment involved the installation of a state of the art heating and pressurised system controlled by an ACE monitoring system. It has over 15 heating circuits including inwall, under-floor, air handling and standard radiator heating. Room temperatures are controlled by a thermostatic valve which does require the guest to adjust to their desired temperature. This is highlighted in the information book, and staffs are always happy to assist if requested. I.e. If you where cold, turn on the radiator. The rooms are not freezing.

I do not accept that our staffs are rude, and that goes against the hundred of thank you letters we have received where the friendly welcome received is most frequently commented on. They do of course

Guests are advised that breakfast is served from 8-10.30am on check in, and in uour information booklet in each room we can cater for guests leaving earlier, if we are informed.

The car park was designed as eco friendly and has a graded gravel base.

Your use of the word rubble is indicative, as it is closely related to the postings by NeonNichll and Jo, that you have launched a coordinated malicious attack on Middleton Park with other poster coordinated attack on us, as you where refused a refund, claimed for spurious reasons.

We attended a wedding here recently and we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The food was very poor, and had clearly been sitting ready all day waiting for the disinterested catering staff to serve. It was dry, browned and unappetising. The staff made it very clear their mission was to be in and out as quick as possible, they were removing vegetables off a table only 2 minutes after putting down the tasteless meat dish. We were sitting 25mins before being served wine. It was thankfully topped up regularly after that.
The steps to the toilets are lethal. Bands and djs do not work in the entrance hall, it was cold and uninviting with no atmosphere.
They could not provide one single room for my friend to breast feed, she would have been happy in a closer.
The drinks at the bar are far too expensive, they are capitalising on the fact there is nothing close by. And my biggest complaint is that they were selling bottles of beer at full price which came from supermarket multipacks. I'm pretty sure this is illegal.

Middleton Park House is renowned for its food. The food was not sitting out all day as uniquely among banqueting operations we cook fresh to order. Your feedback is contrary to all testaments we have received to date.

Our staff are not disinterested staff, and we have hundreds of letters and cards thanking our staff for the kind helpful and courteous behavior, and their tip pool reflects there excellence. They have no incentive to rush or finish early. They would be paid less as a consequence!

The stairs are not lethal but are 200 years old. However if you feel unable to use them we do have a lift and two other staircases to access that level.

The positioning of the band is the choice of the bride and groom, and can be held in the banquet room like any conventional wedding. However the use of the great hall is usually a great success. The creation of an atmosphere primary factors is the band and the people. The physical nature of Middleton Park is irrelevant in this regard. The hall is not cold and is heated by two 86Kva AHUs.

The bedrooms at each wedding are always booked and guaranteed by the bride and groom so there is never a spare bedroom available for breastfeeding mothers. Your friend is and was welcome to breastfeed anywhere in the house. Our ladies restroom is warm, has a separate baby changing area, and is inviting with a large comfortable armchair that is suitable, but if she wanted somewhere more quiet and private, we would have been delighted to suggest numerous areas of the house, had the issue been brought to our attention. As with any mother and child we are more than happy to help and accommodate their needs.

We can categorically deny that we sell "supermarket multipacks" as we receive weekly deliveries from our local reputable distributor, SA Moran. However, we are sometimes asked to supply an unusual and particular beer by the bride and groom that we cannot source from the wholesaler. In that case we will buy small amounts and may have had to get it in a retail outlet. This is not illegal .

Our prices are in line with any hotel of our quality in Ireland, and substantially less than those prevailing in most bars in Dublin City. They would be higher than country pubs, but our overheads are substantially higher than them.

I believe you are part of an organised malicious posting by the poster Jo, designed to damage my business as you where refused a refund.

We attended a wedding there yesterday and it was really disappointing. Many people declined the starters and soup courses and even those who didn't for the most part didn't seem to finish the food. The meat/fish were barely warm as were the veg which was served in small portions, the chocolate dessert was very weak in terms of chocolate flavour. The waitresses were few and were attempting to serve 200 or so guests by bringing two or three dishes from the kitchen at a time. Nobody asked if we were ok. Some people were still getting their food as we were actually finished that course. There was quite an amount of leftovers at our table and the waitress who never smiled attempted to tidy all the leftovers while still at the table rather than just quickly bringing them to the kitchen. Also the wine was not topped up regularly. I would guess service was spread out over 4-5 hours. The stone steps down to the toilets are too dangerous for the old or tipsy. I am not sure about a band playing in the front hall, does not fit in with the old grandeur of the room. The bar area is small and the drinks are expensive given the country location. This is a beautiful house and very nicely restored in quite a convenient country location but the service and quality of the food do not live up to expectations set by the facade of the house. Perhaps it could attend to smaller groups in a more orderly fashion.

Thanks for the genuine feedback. I will pass your comments to our banquet manner.

The menu options weren't to your liking but they where the choices of the bride and groom. If certain guests do not like the couple's choice and send it back, we cannot be held responsible. However to say most sent back or declined is an exaggeration. We cook whatevr is requested.

In regards to your comments about service, we believe in doing a job professionally and the right way. We have serving standards that we adhere to here at Middleton Park.

It is in our interest to get all guests fed as efficiently as possible. To serve a four course menu, generally takes 90 minutes .Choices of each course, five to seven courses and duration of speeches will certainly add more time to dinner. However we have never ever had a 4-5 hour service. It is standard practice for waiters to handle three dishes. Wine quantities and allocation are a matter for the bride and groom.

All timings on the day are agreed with the bride and groom and we get organised around those times. Delays happen when guests stop off at the pub and the photography takes longer than anticipated. Even when guests are invited to sit down, the photographer may then decide to take more pictures and hold up service.

The house is 200 year old and we cannot remove the staircase referred to but there are numerous ways to get to our restrooms, including two staircases and a lift.

The positioning of the band was the choice of the bride and groom, we have many options for the styling and arranging of weddings here at Middleton Park House, all of which we think fit perfectly in with the grandeur of the house. We also have numerous bar areas in the house specifically to deal with larger groups of guests and we have our drinks set at very competitive prices, but certainly not at the level of country pubs, whose overheads would be a fraction of ours, but we are less than most hotels of our quality

Thank you for your kind comments on the house they're very much appreciated and we are regret that the menu wasn't to your liking as we're renowned for our food, and the bride and groom loved their choices.

Kind Regards

Gerard Lynam

Attended a family wedding at St Michael's church in Castletown Geoghegan followed by the reception at MPH. I believe it was quite expensive, but it was very, very good. The staff are on the ball and very efficient and hard-working. The food was of the highest quality and well presented. The large house gives guests the options of dancing and being in by the music, or being in other rooms/bars nearby, where you can still hear the music, or not, depending on your choice. Meant you could catch up and chat easily.
