“Perfect for exploring the Dales and Lake District”

Orton Hall is a charming property with a beautiful view of the gardens from the Clarendon Suite. We found the suite very comfortable with everything we could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The house itself is beautiful with old tapestries and furniture and lovely woods at the back and a garden in front.
Our suite was spacious and well furnished. The kitchen had all the basics - oven, fridge, dish washer, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Stephanie had provided tea, coffee, sugar and milk. The heating was sufficient even for very cold weather.
There is a nice selection of books and films, a DVD player and music system. What more can we ask for !!
We visited the local pub and a chocolate shop which had lovely ice creams. From Orton it’s easy to reach Windermere and also the Yorkshire Dales. We took the B6260 and A685 route to avoid the motorway and the drive to Kendal and Windermere was truly amazing.
The Aysgarth Falls is worth a visit and we enjoyed visiting the Stott Bobbin Mill and the Lakeland Motor Museum.

On arrival we found the Clarendon room was very clean & Stephanie had left us fresh milk & biscuits. Very clear instructions on how to use the electric heating etc. When my wife had a bath & tried the jacuzzi she felt cold water pumping through as opposed to heated water with which she had filled the bath with first. Bearing in mind that it is a period home, decoration wise it did appear a little tired & due a bit of an update/tlc. The top (cutlery) drawer in the kitchen was not secure when pulled out & needs to have the runners fixed, so it opens & closes properly. The furniture was nice & comfy. The bed was very comfortable.

The 3 stars are given for the bath issue (which might be down to being less familiar with the use of it) & also for the general appearance which in my opinion needs freshening up. That said we had a very pleasant break staying there. Thanks Stephanie.

Hello Tony, thanks for taking the time to write a review and to let us know about the drawer and the bath - it's always helpful. We'll review the instructions on how to use the jacuzzi so this won't happen next time. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll come back and visit us again very soon.

“A lovely Home away from Home”
Reviewed 20 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We recently stayed at Orton Hall during the Easter break. The property is a beautiful period house, full of character, with sprawling gardens and woods to the back. The location is ideal in that you can enjoy quiet countryside walks through the village and surrounding areas while at the same time being within short driving distance of all major tourist attractions.
We chose the Clarendon suite which offers a pretty view of the front lawns. The resident rabbits are a delight to watch while having your morning cuppa by the bay windows. The suite is clean, cozy, well maintained and well furnished and has everything you need should you just wish to stay in..a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedroom and a relaxing spa bath.
Stephanie is very hospitable, helpful and quick to revert and ensures that your stay is as comfortable as possible.
We had an excellent holiday and hope to be back very soon.

Comfortable, cosy, quiet and convenient. Everything we needed and more. Loved the squirrels in the grounds, a delight to see each day. Lovely touch from Stephanie, leaving us milk and cookies as a welcoming gift. Thank you!

“Fabulous weekend”

Orton Hall set in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside with its impressive sweeping driveway and sprawling lawns dotted with grazing rabbits and wildlife is a must visit! We stayed for a long weekend in the very well appointed Clarendon Suite (we did have a choice of other Suites, but have to say we were very glad we chose the Clarendon) The Clarendon has fabulous views across the front lawn, which we could view whilst eating our breakfast from the dining table in the bay window. Whilst we could have dined in due to the very well equipped kitchen (and taken advantage of the sky tv) we opted to eat out at a couple of great eateries locally- tasted one of the best lamb dishes I have ever eaten in The Black Swan, which is just a ten minute drive away! The bedroom was well furnished and the bed was particularly comfortable, just as well after a long day walking in the beautiful Lakeland Countryside. Bathroom was a great size, supplied with fluffy towels and a heated towel rail. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Orton Hall, especially the Clarendon Suite, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others, we will certainly be visiting again soon!
