“Superb getaway for two”
Reviewed 5 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

First off, we had a great time. The house was great for a number of reasons, namely the location (quiet, picturesque village, but not too quiet) and feel of the house. The village has a pub, is off the beaten track but still close to the M6, has a chocolate shop, a village shop and post office. It's just a good location for a retreat. The house is furnished to a high standard and feels very homely.

The landlady was great. They live close by so was available (should you need her) and this gives quite a bit of flexibility, for mainly obvious reasons. Communication was also fast and responsive.

I thought the price was great. It was thoroughly cleaned and well maintained with pretty much all the essentials you need for your stay provided, from towels and toilet paper (expected) to little things like cling film and cooking oil (that you don't expect).

The only improvement i'd make is to have an actual log burning fire than a fake one, for atmosphere and the kind of heat it gives, though I imagine there's probably some health & safety police that actually stop this from being possible, I don't know.

I'd highly recommend this to people.

“Perfect little cottage for holiday”
Reviewed 9 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Great cottage with everything you need that is well looked after and in a lovely village. We stopped for 3 nights with a dog with the intention of doing plenty of walks. There are loads of lovely walks in and around Orton, you don't have to go far for something new and just as beautiful. It was a shame the only pub in the village didn't allow dogs but the pubs in other local villages were lovely and served amazing food (so it made us explore further afield!). Would recommend both pubs in Ravenstonedale and Butchers Arms in Crosby Ravensworth who all allow dogs. We would definitely come back to this cottage which was great value for money, modern and homely with lovely management. Many thanks for having us!

“Lovely, cosy cottage with beautiful surrounding countryside”

A lovely, cosy cottage in a quiet village location. Cottage has everything you need and is pet friendly (holiday was enjoyed by the cat too!). Easy access to the sights of the Lake District and some beautiful cycling on the doorstep. The lemon drizzle cake on arrival was the best we tasted all week and was a lovely surprise. Would easily recommend this cottage for either a relaxing break or for outdoor activities.

“Cumberland Cottage - Wonderfully located, cosy and well equipped.”

What can we say about Cumberland Cottage and its owners that hasn't been said already?

The property is exactly as it was described, clean and very well equipped. We wanted for nothing during our stay. We read other reviews before booking and can only echo what others have said. The lemon drizzle cake was a welcome sight on our arrival and it tasted every bit as good as the guest log would have you believe!

Situated in the heart of Orton the cottage is a stones throw away from the local pub (good honest food), the village convenience shop and our favourite, Kennedy's chocolate shop which has the most amazing selection of hand crafted treats and a cafe.

Gill was very helpful and friendly and we would not hesitate to recommend this place to family and friends. In fact, we are already planning our second visit in early 2016!

“Lovely modern cottage”
Reviewed 22 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Owners have refurbished this old cottage with a modern pleasant interior. Fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine. King bed and modern bathroom upstairs. Convenient to the Lake District and the M6. The Village of Orton has 2 cafés and a well stocked general market. The cottage had many brochures and maps of the area and the owners were extremely helpful in suggesting places to go. They have a Visitors Book with information on where to eat and places to see, etc. We would definitely recommend this cottage. We had a delightful stay.

“Its the small touches that make the big difference”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

From the moment we arrived, we felt immediately at at home. Not sure if that was due to the yummy lemon cake waiting on the tea tray, or the pint of milk in the fridge, or the warm welcome from the owner , or the fact that the cottage was so comfortable, or just a combination of all of them.
Being a veteran of holiday rentals I went armed with all those extras like tin foil, toilet paper, sugar that most cottages supply so little, if any of...and they all came back home with me as Cumberland had everything we needed. Added to the fact its ideally situated for both Lakes and Dales and has a Chocolate factory producing the most mouthwatering chocolates virtually opposite the cottage's front door, we cant recommend this cottage highly enough.
