two night break with my husband sunday and monday. what an experience. it is not the hilton by any means but has so much old world charm and character. the perfect place to unwind. it could definately do with some tlc but the big comfy settees and large log fire is so welcoming in the lounge/reception that you dont notice after a while. the staff are very friendly and helpful and do their utmost to make sure everything is ok. the room was clean and adequate. the pool could have been warmer, the jacuzzi was freezing but the steam room was ok but do you know it didnt bother us one bit we were so chilled out and it seemed to add to the character of the place. wayne was cheerful and went out of his way to talk to us and make sure everything was ok. the food was really good but a bit expensive dont be put off it really was a most enjoyable few days just a tip you have to like dogs as this is a very very dog friendly place

I am very happy you enjoyed your stay with us at the Damson Dene and want to thank you for your lovely review! The staff have that rare ability to work hard and maintain a friendly, personable attitude. We work hard to ensure that all of our guests our well looked after and happy. I like your take on the "charm" of the hotel and hope to see you again in the future!

I am a paid up member of the leisure club at Damson Dene and I visit the hotel regularly to use the leisure facilities. There has been a marked decline in the standard of this facility over the last 4 months. Nothing seems to get done even when it is brought to the attention of the management. The reception and leisure facility staff are great and I feel sorry that they unfortunately receive the brunt of the criticisms. The problems are as follows:

The sauna has not run at the correct temperature for 4 months.
One running treadmill has been out of commission for over 5 months.
The keys to the lockers in the male changing are mostly missing such that on my last visit there were only 4 lockers with keys.
There was no hot water in the shower by the pool on my last visit.
The steam room seems to work only intermittently and you have to know to throw water on the sensor to get it to work.
The shower gel dispensers and the hygenic cleaner in the gymn are often empty, even in the morning.

Up until 4 months ago the facility was excellent. Now it is declining rapidly and something needs to be done about it.

We greatly appreciate your taking the time to offer your comments on the Damson Dene and we thank you for your kind words regarding our staff. I do want to take a moment to correct a few distorted impressions of our leisure facilities.

There has been a large investment over the past 12 months in upgrading our facilities with the creation of two new beauty rooms and a refurbishment of the leisure reception area. This is an ongoing process and we are sorry for the disruption to the facilities during this time. We would like to reassure all members and guests who use the facilities that every endeavour is being made to ensure that the facilities continue to be first rate. Thank you again.

We stayed at the Damson Dene last week as part of the Groupon deal. Great value for money and worth every penny of the money we paid. They upgraded us to a four poster bed and jacuzzi in the bathroon for free. The hotel is about 10 minutes drive from Lake Windermere and is set in some very pleasant hill views. The negatives are the food was very average and some mould on the walls in the room, however the room was very clean. The positives are the staff are very helpful and the hotel has a relaxing feel to it, with a very welcoming reception with a big log fire. The leisure facilites definitely need some money spent on it outdated and the spa jacuzzi and sauna and steam room very poor.

Hello and thank you for your review. I'm happy you found the Damson Dene to be great value for money. You are certainly right about the reception area and log fire being welcoming. I am sorry to hear you found our food only average. Judging by the number of comments I get on a daily basis about how wonderful the food is, it did strike me as a surprise. Also, the steam room did have a timer issue, but we called in a specialist as soon as we were aware of the issue. Thanks again, and I hope you visit us again and give our food another try!

I have just returned from this hotel with my boyfriend after a 2 night stay which we given to us as a Christmas present ;-)
The hotel is set in gorgeous grounds about a 10 min drive from Bowness (good if you drive but we dont so cost us £12 in a taxi to go and explore Bowness and £12 back).
The staff are all very friendly and made our stay an easy and enjoyable experience.

We were so happy when we opened the door to our room and saw a double 4 poster bed, massive bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and loads of storage space plus a tv and coffee making facilities. The only down side was the jacuzzi bath only semi worked as half the spray nozzles didnt really let out any bubbles !! But overall the room was very good.

The breakfast was also really good, there was lots of choice and the food was constantly filled up and kept warm and fresh. In the evenings the restaurant offers a 3 course meal but that is all so it is very limiting and there was little on the menu me and my partner liked but we what did order was excellent quality.

The gym and sauna were not great as a lot of the gym machinery was broken and the sauna seemed faulty but the swimming pool was a fab size and very clean.

I would not go back to the hotel simply because we dont drive and and the choice of food in the evenings was not for us. But I would recommend people try it who do drive, as even with the few faults it has it is a lovely hotel and the friendly staff make up for the negatives ;-)

I appreciate you taking the time to offer your thoughts on your recent stay with us. I'm sorry to hear that you won't consider returning, but thank you for your kind words. If you had let us know that the menu wasn't to your liking, we would have gladly prepared something special for you. Still, I am happy you enjoyed your breakfast with us.

The part needed for the sauna has been ordered and will be fixed in short order. The only piece of machinery broken in the gym is one of our treadmills, which should be fixed soon as well.

Thanks again for your review and if you do ever start driving, perhaps we will see you again!
