“No Complaints!”
Reviewed 27 February 2013

After reading some of the reviews of the hotel, i was a little apprehensive about our stay. However, the apprehension was soon proved unfounded! The hotel accommodated our request to be upgraded to a family room upon booking, due to taking our dog, which they kindly did free of charge, and we found the room to be very comfortable, warm and extremely clean! The food in the restaurant surpassed our expectations, it was delicious! The staff were also accommodating again when we requested to eat our desserts in the bar area so we didn't have to leave our dog alone too long in the room, and the next morning they even set up a separate breakfast place for us in the bar where our dog was welcome! All the staff were very friendly and also helpful with information about the surrounding area and suggested local walks suitable for us and our young dog. Finally, after leaving the hotel my partner realised he had left his iPhone charger behind in the room, which the staff posted back to us and never requested any money to cover the cost of the postage. I would definitely return to the hotel on another groupon (or similar) deal.

Room Tip: request upgrade to family room or "cottage"

Lovely review, thank you. All the staff really appreciate your kind words. Ryan, the chef, is also pleased to have exceeded your expectations of the food as well! We are in a perfect spot for dogs with so many walks nearby and all the staff love meeting them! I'm sure we will see you again! Thank you.

Just returned from a weekend break at Damson Dene and would thoroughly recommend this if you're looking for a peaceful break. The staff were very helpful and polite and food was very good. I'm normally very critical of places that allow dogs (my friends have dogs) and as this weekend was bought as a present I was very apprehensive about what to expect but other than seeing the occasional dog, you wouldn't know there'd been any around! If you're wanting something a bit more lively, just be warned this hotel is very isolated ,but once you sit in front of the open fire with a glass of red, you wouldn't want to move anyway.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get room 28 which is where we were put as your view is a brick wall and endl...

We have just spent 5 nights at the Damson Dene and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, despite reservations having seen The Hotel! We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were all attentive. The hotel was looking a little tired in places but it was clean throughout. This isn't the plushest hotel you'll stay in but it was homely and made us feel at ease.
We enjoyed the dinner, bed and breakfast, although our waistlines suffered the consequences! The food was fanstatic - tasty and good portions. On day 3 we were asked if we had any specific requests, the following day they were on the menu and tasted amazing.
All in all it was a great break and I would definitely stay again - thank you!

It was a pleasure hosting your family for 5 nights and everyone is so happy that you enjoyed your stay. We love half-term breaks when whole families get to come away. We were only too happy to put your suggestions on our menu the following day; the chef is amazing like that! We do hope to see everyone again!

my husband booked this break as a surprise & treat. The exterior is shabby and run down.We refused to stay in the first basement room which was a familyroom, small, dark, damp and asked for change. The second room down in the basement was little better and can only be described as hostel accommodation. The window cills were damp, mouldy with net curtains. The windows were too dirty to see out. No other room was available. The food was lovely, although expensive as was the drinks and that is the only reason i have given two stars. We wont be returning.

Room Tip: Higher floors may be better but not given opportunity to view .

What a shame to have read this review. We have no basement rooms at the hotel and the hotel is in no way tired as described. It is a wonderful country hotel with charm and character backed up by an expert team of staff. We do appreciate the reviewers nice comments about the food, although I think one would find us to be excellent value for money for the area, especially if booked in on a special offer like the reviewer.

Managed to get in after a late cancellation and I have to say we really enjoyed our evening. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and look like they really enjoy working there.

We had a lovely dinner with a very nice Fleurie and then relaxed in the big comfy leather sofa in front of a roaring log fire. Perfect evening.

Very nice breakfast with a great sausage been the star of the plate.

Thank you Damson Dene, the staff are a credit to the manager who is creating a very nice relaxing ambience.

What a brilliant, 5-star review! Thanks for that. We get so many wonderful comments about our humble (but delicious) breakfast sausage. Our staff, too, get many comments as well. They are great at taking care of everything which allows guests to have a nice and relaxing stay. Thanks again and we do hope you'll visit us again.

We stayed at the Damson Dene in February on a "two nights for one" type offer and had a very pleasant little break. The hotel is located in the lovely Winster Valley and the friendly staff provided us with a very warm welcome, as did the wonderfully aromatic log fire, crackiling away in the public lounge area. Our room was one of the downstairs ones and though the rather jaded corrodor that led to our door did little to inspire our confidence, we found the room to be clean, fresh, comfortable and amply equipped for our short stay. The en suite included a bath in addition to the usual shower and although the tub wasn't luxuriously large, it nonetheless provided the opportunity for a long and langurous soak in steamingly hot water with complimentary bubbles.
The three course dinner which was included in the deal was tasty and well presented. Breakfast was taken buffet style and included the usual array of cereals and juices in addition to a satisfying and scrumpcious full English. The breakfast room/restaraunt was charmingly decorated with amusingly humorous trompe l'oeil panels and and had lovely views out over the hotel's grounds and duck pond to the rolling hills beyond. Service was informal, friendly and efficient.Staying for only two nights meant we had little time to try out the indoor pool or the hotel's health and fitness suite, though it was good to know they were available should we feel incined. Having seen previous comments about the hotel's decor being perhaps a little tired in places, we were not surprised to find the paint peeling here and there, but this was only apparent on close inspection and did little to detract from the relaxed charm of the place. On the whole we enjoyed a very relaxing short break and would not hesitate to book again. Well done and thanks to all at The Damson Dene.

Room Tip: Try asking for an upgrade if not satisfied and the staff will do their best to accomodate you.

Thanks for this nice review. The thing that strikes me about it is your attention to detail; you may be the first review ever to mention the interesting trompe l'oeil decor in the restaurant; well spotted! We are all pleased you enjoyed yourselves during your stay and definitely hope to see you again! Thank you.
