“Not worth the money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

Stayed here for two night recently and I have to say I don't think we have stayed in a more dirty and tired hotel. We were in room 1, lovely four poster bed that is covered in dust, the window frames are split and in urgent need of replacing, 3 bulbs in total out in our room, cracked tiles in the bathroom, black mould on the ceiling, a net curtain which only fitted half the bathroom window. Had to make our own bed, empty the bins and go and ask for clean towels and this had still not been done by 4pm. In the dining room bulbs were out all over, cobwebs, dead insects etc hung from corners and lamps, looked like it had not been cleaned properly in a LONG while. In the spa, the female changing room in particular, the shower curtain was covered in black mould spots.
Food average, service friendly enough

Overall not a very nice experience and we will not be visiting again. Very disappointing considering the beautiful location.

Whilst there are some helpful things to take away from this review, such as making sure we stay on top of light bulbs going out, other things are not accurate depictions of the hotel or accommodation. The room was not as described as they are thoroughly cleaned on a strict regiment. The housekeepers work until 5pm but had not made it to their room by 4pm. Usually this is not the case, but sometimes on the busiest of days it is. We are sorry to have read this review and that the guest felt the way they did. We will learn from it and improve where we can.

We have been staying at Damson Dene for the last 12 years, which speaks for it's self.
Friendly efficient staff with good quality food.
Handy little gym and pool for when the weather is not too good.
Handy location for access to all the Lake District.

First impressions, are as others have commented, a bit dated.we had a suite which was very spacious , however some items should have been picked up by housekeeping , for example one of the chains on one of the two sinks was broken, also one of the cupboard door knobs was missing. An area of the tiles around the shower was mouldy in the grout, and a light was out in the bathroom.
The staff are very friendly and attentive, particularly the reception and bar . Wayne with his quiz night and his general manner with guests was excellent.
The three course dinner was good but not anything special, breakfast was buffet style and had all the items you would expect. The setting is lovely, with the duck pond and although our room was next to the road, we were not disturbed by this, the floorboards od the room above would however disturb you if occupied by guests who move around a lot or early morning, late at night.
Decor needs some updating, and a lot of guests had booked via a deal on one of the website like groupon etc, but the hotel were willing to do a deal and a voucher was given for a reduced two night stay in future. Would we stay again? Probably as the plus points outweighed the minus ones

My hubby booked a 2 night stay in May. The hotel is lovely in beautiful surroundings. We got to our room and it was a bit small. We managed ok. First night we had booked in for a meal and this was really gorgeous. My favourite part was the chocolate pud for dessert. Breakfast the following day was really nice. Buffet style so you can help yourself. Staff were helpful and worked hard to ensure everyone was looked after. The shower in our room ran slow but again we managed with it. We did nt take advantage of the spa facilities but there were treatments available at reasonable prices and access to the pool was unlimited. The hotel does allow dogs at a subsidy. This is a great idea as lots of beautiful walks around the area.

Thank you for staying with us and posting your nice review. Delighted you enjoyed the food and service. You'll definitely have to take advantage of the spa treatments if you were to visit again; Sharon (our beauty therapist) is simply superb! Thanks again.

we stayed at the Damson
Dene hotel on a Living Social deal in March 2014. First impressions is that it was a little bit far out from Windermere but once checked in and shown to our room we were pleasantly surprised. It was very spacious and had a large bath which my partner loves. We recommend the fixed price 3 course dinner as it is well presented and excellent choice of quality food and my compliments to the chef.my wife had the venison on both nights as she thoroughly enjoyed it and it was the first time she had eaten venison! The pleasant bar served a good choice of beers and spirits and Wayne the housemaster puts on a very entertaining quiz, he is a very pleasant man and works very very hard. My partner and i had back massages in the spa and the lady was so good i went to my room so relaxed i fell asleep while admiring the view from my room. Overall a fantastic 2 day stay.

Spent a few days in the Lake District at the Damson Dene Hotel as part of a Groupon Deal. The internior of the Hotel is a little old fashioned and the bedroom we had was quite small but the welcome, the service in the dining room and the food were all excellent. A lovely little swimming pool and adjoining gym was used by myself and my wife had some beauty treatments in the salon. Included in the Deal was a trip on the Lake which we very much enjoyed.
