“Good place to stay”
Reviewed 31 March 2013 via mobile

This is the first time we stay in Aguascalientes and several people recommended us this hotel. The place is actually really nice. Nice lawns and a really nice swimming pool. The hotel is located conveniently close to a mall. A lot of nearby restaurants in case you don't feel like using the restaurant. I enjoyed my stay there.

I had really hoped that I could have written a good review about Las Trojes. My family has been staying at this hotel for over 20 years and we have always loved the hotel, the ground and the restaurant, especially the breakfast.

Unfortunately the owners are no longer managing the hotel and the security staff is now using this hotel as their own personal piggy bank.

We were in Aguascalientes for a family wedding, when we returned a laptop and cell phone were missing from my father’s room. I was able to determine the time it was stolen based on some remote control software and gave the security staff that information. Coincidently the room was outside of security camera range and it happened right after housekeeping left for the night.

We talked to police and started the process of filing a complaint through the labyrinth that is the Mexican legal system. The computer connected to the internet the next day and I was able to determine the IP address from a local ISP but the police and hotel security staff were less than interested in pursuing it.

More than one member of the hotel staff quietly approached us and asked us to pursue the matter as there had been many cases of theft and the guests always just left and nothing was done about it. At the police station these statements were confirmed as we were shown a stack of theft complaints at this same hotel. The security staff did absolutely nothing and just pointed to their contract saying they were not liable for items stolen.

Such a shame. This was the best hotel in the area. Now, save yourself the risk, pay a little more and stay at the Marriott across the street.

Room Tip: Second floor. Thieves enter through the ground floor sliding glass windows facing the garden. The ro...

Stayed for a week while my wife worked at the univeristy. Nice rooms, clean, well-furnished. Opens on to the grounds where the heated (yes!) swimming pool is loacated. The breakfast buffet is not free but affordable and is GREAT. (I'm a breakfast person.) We ate there in the evening, too and it was very nice. Have an ATM in the hotel that had good bank convertion rates for US-Peso. The front desk exchange was like 10-1 (horrible rate). The staff was very nice and many spoke English.
Across the 4-lane street which has some cross walks it the new shopping center (~ 5 years old) which has a good many stores Mexican & el Norte. Also has Sanborns (we like to eat there). Another direction from the hotel is strip-type mall with WalMart, Sams and general stores and banks.
Would definately stay again.

I really liked this city. I stayed at this hotel in a business trip in Mexico and only stayed one night. However, the hotel service was excellent. I came late at night and had to order room service since the restaurant was closed and that was no problem for the food to be excellent. Hotel is in a very convenient place with a lot of stores very close.

Nice place to stay with reasonable room rates. They have recently made improvments on their bilingual front desk staff. They have wireless internet in the old half of the hotel and if you want it, you have to tell them when you check in. I have stayed here at least 12 times and have never been disappointed. The breakfast buffet is good but a bit overpriced for the area. On the other hand if you only want coffee and a roll, they will charge you less. They have a menu for breakfast but none of the wait staff is bilingual and it gets interesting. Their evening meals are stricktly Mexican food and in not particularly inspired. The restaurant and the bar next door stays open until midnight. They have a beautiful heated pool in the center of the hotel complex and it is quite refreshing. There is parking on the grounds and there is a rent a cop that patrols in the evening. The patrol is not necessary since this is an extremely low crime area. Across the street is a Walmart, a Vips, a Sam's club, a Macdonalds and a movie theatre. A few blocks away are a number of good restaurants. There are Taxi's available at the hotel that work on fixed rates. Overall a very good experience.

  • Liked — Pool and close to shopping for forgotten items
  • Disliked — Internet in only one half of the hotel

Aguascalientes is not much of a tourist town, but it was still a charming place to visit. Americans are not a common sight, but the ones you will find are typically in this hotel. Las Trojes is in the affluent northern suburb, across from a Walmart/Sam's Club shopping nexus. The front desk staff usually speaks English, but the rest of the city is generally not bilingual. The Las Trojes lobby is airy and welcoming. The restaurant offers a very filling breakfast buffet. There is free wireless internet access throughout the hotel. And the suites are large and uniformly clean. However, the rooms are dim (common even in homes here). Fortunately, this is not the case in the well-appointed bathroom (and kudos for the attached magnifying mirror). There is no lift/elevator on the premises, so consider yourself warned if you are disabled or traveling with lots of heavy gear. You can get around well-enough in a rental car, but you will make yourself crazy at first because the maps neglect to show the concentration of one-way roads in downtown Aguascalientes, so it will take the newbie several hours to navigate to the heart of the city. Fortunately, the hotel is on the main north-south route and so we could always find our way back. And if you are fortunate enough to meet Roy, the bell man, you will learn several jokes that your "pull my finger" uncle will appreciate.

The hotel is not near the center of town, not that the center of town is a desirable location. We checked in very late one night and the night clerk insisted on a second form of ID even though my credit card has my photo and printed signature on it. After that, it was off to the room.

The room was small and smelled worn out. The decorations were vintage 80s. It was relatively clean but just felt old. I turned the air conditioning on and was met with a barrage of noises. In actual fact, the background noise helped mask a couple of unusual noises throughout the night. I couldn’t tell if the noises were coming from the next room or from within the walls, but I was thankful that I was exhausted since I didn’t hear them again until I woke up the next morning. However, the mystery noises were still there.

The breakfast buffet was quite good. The omelet was cooked to order and was excellent. The coffee was good and the service was equally good. In fact, after a decent breakfast, the sun shining and check out imminent, it turned out to be a fairly nice stay.

I don’t know if I’d actually recommend this hotel since I don’t know if there are alternatives. Maybe getting the deluxe room as another reviewer mentioned is the way to go.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I made one phone call for about 15 minutes and was charged sixty ($60) USD. Wow.
