“First visit, NOT impressed.”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 via mobile

So, let me preface this with saying, this was our first trip to Rocky Point and Sonoran Sky. The good-the room was to die for. Beautiful view of the ocean, gorgeous amenities in the kitchen, etc... Beautiful design. Now, the rest. Being our first time there, we checked to see if there was anyone downstairs that could tell us good things to do with our whole family. Not only could they not tell us, they didn't seem interested in helping us find out. We basically had to find out from others in the hotel. Similarly, they were not that concerned when we found a mouse, yes, a rodent on my daughter's chest in the middle of the night. Nor were they concerned when the heavy blinds actually fell on my head leaving a large lump. We asked for maintenance to come fix them and he came, looked at it, and said he would be right back to fix them. We were waiting for him to return so we could go to the beach. ... an hour later, my husband went to go look for him. He was in the store just talking to the girls that work there. Ugh! Additionally, there was always something NOT working. One hot tub had working jets, but NO heat. Another one, had great heat and NO working jets. The last one had luke warm water and working jets. Take your pick, but for what we paid for our 3 bedroom... there should be some fully working hot tubs. Service and prices at the bar were mediocre. You can't charge things to your room, which was so inconvenient. I really don't like having to carry cash down to the beach. Thankfully, we met some very friendly people. Pools were great, but freezing. Girls in convenience shop were rude and spoke no English making it hard to purchase anything there. No one here was any help. We loved the beach and will return ONLY because of that but will not be back to this resort if you can call it that.

We drove from Playas in Tijuana to Puerto Penasco..it was mostly on toll roads till the last hour and a half of the trip. The road was safe but had to stop and get out at two Federal check points.
The weather was perfect in August. The Resort are condos own by individual that rent out their unit. They have a nice pools and beach access, all rooms are ocean view. All gym and pool are close at 9:45 pm..The pool swim up bar has food and alcohol..Food is okay, the restaurant on site is okay but they keep messing up the food orders. I would not recommend the Spa on site, but instead do a massage on the beach by one of the locals that set up massage tables..it is much much cheaper !! Overall we enjoy our stay and would come back again..

Room Tip: All room are nice

First trip to Rocky Point after living in Arizona 22 years! Better late than never, and this trip was memorable in no small part to the excellent Sonoran Sky Resort. We spent two nights in condo 905, a one bedroom that was very cozy and well appointed. Great views, great amenities, cannot say enough good things about this resort. Already planning our next visit here next summer!

This property was clearly designed with the main feature in mind - breathtaking views of the ocean. Both the living room and master bedroom had a full glass wall facing the ocean. I enjoyed leaving just the screen open and watching/listening to the ocean waves while resting.

The main pool likewise has an infinite edge design to visually look like you're swimming in the ocean. Good food, nice pools including a small waterslide for the kids. The rooms come with plenty of water for drinking.

When I ran into a snag and had a kidney stone the staff helped me find a very affordable clinic with a great doctor. Took the stress out of what could have been a vacation nightmare.

Even with that, this was one of the most relaxing places I've ever stayed, and the rooms were furnished very nicely. Whirlpool tub and fully stocked kitchen didn't hurt either. Definitely coming back.

Room Tip: Condo 303 has a great view and the pull out couch can fit three small children or two larger ones ea...

We took a short four-day break to Puerto Penasco and stayed at the Sonoran Sky in condo 306 (a one-bedroom) located across from a playground and picnic area.

Pros: Nice layout with a beautiful view of the beach and pools; small, functional kitchen with granite counter tops and most common cooking utensils; nicely shaded patio/deck; washer/dryer a real plus. This unit would work well for someone with a young child because of the proximity of the playground.

Cons: No towel service, so take your own or be prepared to do laundry a few times. Our unit had two towels, a wash cloth, and hand towel for four days. Take plenty of food. The restaurants in Rocky Point are not so great.

In evening there were fireworks exploding on the beach; not pretty fireworks, but firecrackers and the like. It's a bit out of context to have the serenity disrupted by this.

Warning about the Ocean View Restaurant: Do NOT under any circumstances eat in this place. It is beyond awful. We left our food uneaten. One shrimp dish was barely cooked; truly awful.

Would we return? Maybe, but not to this particular unit because of the playground noise.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a quiet condo unit 306 is not it. The playground and picnic area are directly...

We traveled to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) with a group of 12 people and had three condos between us (I believe all the "rooms" are actually condos). The condos were all fantastic but differed in some substantial ways.

All the condos had mostly the same fabulous kitchen with granite everywhere and stainless steel appliances. All the rooms had the same bathroom with nice marble, walk-in shower with rain fall shower head and big Jacuzzi tub. They also all had the same great wood trim and crown moldings.

Where they differed was all the things that went into the condo. We stayed in 1204 and it was absolutely fantastic. The condo owners provided every single detail we could have wanted. The furniture was leather and very comfortable. The electronics were all high-end Samsung and even included Apple TV with tons of movies and music! We were well stocked with silverware, plates, cups, bowls, all sorts of glassware and even things like spices were included. The owners have a huge table out on the balcony which seated 6 and was our choice spot for eating breakfast in the morning. The bed was huge and super comfortable.

Others in our group didn't have the same level of awesome that we did. Their furniture was a little dated and they didn't have the same attention to detail that our condo had. They weren't upset - just a little jealous of how wonderful 1204 was.

The pools were all spacious, clean and fun. The staff was very vigilant about cleaning them. The pool with the swim-up bar was used the most and the kids had a BLAST on the water slide.

The pool bar was a little pricey but had succulent shrimp tacos.

The grounds were clean and we always felt safe. There is a guard at the front drive and the entire complex is enclosed. You can park underground. We never felt like we needed to keep an eye on our car while we were there.

The only negative is that it is next to the RV park. The RVers can get a little bit rowdy and like to shoot off fireworks at times. No big deal, they usually stop around 10:30 or so.

In summary, get room 1204 if you can! Otherwise, you can't really go wrong. Everything about the Sky is top-shelf and we would not hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Look for anything above the 3rd floor. The "penthouse" condos on the 15th floor were not...

The resort was the best part about our stay in Puerto Penasco. We stayed in Unit #408 which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The kitchen has beautiful granite countertops and stainless steal appliances. Our unit had a whirlpool tub as well. There is an exquisite view from the 400 square foot balcony. Every unit has a balcony and view of the ocean. Whenever we had questions, the staff were very helpful. The only disappointing thing was the noisy neighbors shooting off fireworks. I would suggest bringing earplugs and then your stay will be absolutely wonderful!
