“Uncrowded, beach access, RV Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

This is an update to a review 2 years ago. We made a reservation and payment for 3 RV's for the beachfront sites. We had no issues with our reservation. If you are uncertain of your plans, our suggestion is to go anyway and take your chances getting the spot you desire. There was plenty of room at the park and even the spaces not on the beach have great access. The park was relatively unchanged in the last 2 years, except that Mexico is now in process of building a breakwater next to Wrecked at the Reef. This has actually improved the access road into the park for a big rig RV and tow car! You could hear the construction during the day but we did not find it disturbing. There are several restaurants next door to the park and many places to take long walks on the beach. If you choose this park, we find it helpful to have a vehicle to go into "town" and the Malecon (Fish Market).

This RV park is definitely a no frills park. But if you're in Mexico to enjoy the beach and the company that you're with, this is the place for you! This park has the most amazing beach access! We reserve a beach front spot every year. We can walk out of our hauler and are on the beach in 10 steps. It's called The Reef because the further down you get, when the tide goes out, there's reef. It's not the most comfortable thing to have when you're playing in the water but when the reef is out, take the time to walk it. You'll be pleasantly surprised by some of the things you'll find out there. If you get a beach front, I suggest section A. The further down you get the closer to the reef you are. We fill our water tanks before we leave the states so we never use the water that is provided so I cannot comment on that. We've never had power issues while there though. Yes, the power boxes are rusty and old but what do you expect...they're on the beach with the salt water and humidity. The bar/restaurant is awesome! Wrecked at the Reef has some wonderful food and beverages. My favorite...pina colada with grenadine and cinnamon. Try it! Delicious! If locals walking the beach selling their items is not your cup of tea...don't come to Rocky Point. The locals walk the beach selling...it's their livlihood. I've never been offered any type of drug and I've been coming here for seven years. The locals will now and again ask for a bottle of water or a beer and we are happy to oblige. They are great people! I have never used the bathrooms or showers that are on site so I cannot comment as to the quality of those. I have used the laundry room and it's...well, a laundry room. Not sure what else you'd expect as far as a laundry room is concerned. It got my clothes clean so that's all that matters to me. Make the short trip to Choya Bay while you're there and go to JJ's Cantina. Yummy food! Like I said, a no frills place but we enjoy it!

Room Tip: Beach front spots are best - Section A is furthest from the reef, closest to the restaurant, bar, of...

My wife and I have been staying at the Reef for 6 years. They have the biggest spaces in town. The water does stop occasionally, but if you bring some in your trailer, it is not a problem. WE have never had problems with the office/reservation process. We have stayed at two othe parks and this one is by far the best. The restaurants are excellent. If you feel this place is bad, stay home.. You cant beat the price or location. It is Mexico, try to go San Diego and spend the same amount and see what you get.

My wife and I stayed at the Reef RV Park last weekend. I was hesitant that there were going to be lots of problems because of the reviews I read on this site and others.
The park is definately no frills but after visiting the other RV parks in Rocky Point, there's no doubt it's the best fit for us. Use some common sense and prefill your water tanks in the case water does go out. We learned the hard way about that but we only went a couple hours without water the whole weekend. Power was strong and reliable.
The RV grounds were kept very clean as well.
Other than these little thorny brambles from the palm trees, we had no complaints,
Bathrooms and showers were kept up nicely an stocked with TP ect......
We did not experience any clogged toilets or showers.

One of the biggest bonuses was that the park is located right on the ocean and just a few feet away from Rocky Points newest attraction.
"Wrecked at the Reef" is a pet friendly, American owned modern beach hang out just a few feet away from the park. They are super freindly and have amazing food and reasonable priced bevies too....
They cater to all folks and not just the frat kids.

We're already looking forward to our next stay at the Reef RV park.
Next time, we'll definately reserve a ocean front RV spot.
Now, if they will only get a working website!!! LOL

Sewer, water and electric... All works most of the time. Facilities spartan for sure. Beautiful location, reasonably close to shopping and food. Feels safe. We love going to the reef. Rent atv's nearby. Don't pay if you aren't going to show up! Economic challenges have hit Puerto Penasco hard. Always enjoy RVing at the reef.

First off, the road to the Reef RV Park is extremely poor, pulling into the park is difficult, and there is no tar road from the main road about 1/2-1 mile away. The Sites at the Reef have lots of broken curbs (Some moved by other visitors), the power outlets are rusted, wires hanging and safety covers missing. When we washed our hands outside we could feel electric current when we touched the water and ground at the same time (There may be multiple shorts in the ground *DANGEROUS). The fuse panels are falling apart, safety covers for wiring is missing, the plugs are falling apart, and the fuse banks rusted solid. The power was off for hours at a time (4-5 hr.’s) on two of our 4 Days we stayed here. Water was also not on for hours at a time, this occurred without notice. When we visited the office they had power and running water so this occurred in the park only and not in town. The Reef RV Park has one central bathroom with laundry, the showers are not tiled on the walls and there are numerous openings with lots of MOLD and wear were sheetrock is exposed. The drains back up while showering and you are standing in a huge puddle of water, in some cases the doors to the showers did not close, and there are exposed wires hanging from the ceiling. Some of the showers have faucet knobs, other are missing completely. The toilets when we arrived for 2 days straights had been plugged and had feces and sewage over flowing on the floor surrounding the stall. They did clean them after numerous people complained days later, but soon became clogged and nasty dirty again only a day later. The Park had lots’ of trash everywhere (Bottles, cans, paper and litter), and we noticed numerous huge ant hives with large red ants while walking around. Our campsite had large red ants crawling on chairs, tables so we had to wear sandals at all times luckily nobody was bitten. When we went to the beach, we got asked by the same vendors over and over again to buy items, to have beer and in some cases if we could give them tequila. Not all the vendors had been inconsiderate, but there are numerous ones without permits who roam your site, and hound you for a purchase, beer, liquor and offer you yayo or weed which we do not desire. When we said no thank you, they would return 5-10 minutes later after walking the line of people and ask you again hoping you may purchase or offer them beer or wine or... etc. In some cases they asked over and over again for food we had been grilling at the time. On one occasion, two vehicles entered the park I believe to be federals, they had masks on all in black, carried large automatic weapons, and high caliber machine guns mounted to pickup trucks, they drove slowly thru the park, scared us, stared at us, and then left. They looked very similar to terrorists seen on TV than federal law enforcement or government...etc.

Room Tip: Do not be afraid to complain if you need something, they seem to resolve your issue eventually but n...

This RV Park requests that you pay for your reservations using check in full, they promise to send you a receipt and confirmation within 10-14 business days. Well over 30 Business days ago and after we verified they received and cashed our check we have stillnot gotten a receipt or confirmation. As others have said, cancelling your reservation will result in lack of a refund and I can honestly believe it based on the fact that they just simply do not reply to emails or reservations once they get your check and cash it.
