“Great Place to do NOTHING”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

This quiet resort is perfect when you need to totally rest and relax. Nicely appointed, although showing its age in the rooms. Food is good, not amazing. Dinners are themed each night...Italian, Mexican, etc. Poolside snacks and sandwiches are very good, and the Margaritas even taste like lime and tequila, not like lime Kool Aid like so many Mexican resorts.

Service is excellent in the Hotel, but beware of taking the "90 minute" timeshare tour. We are timeshare owners, and have gone through tons of these presentations...this is without a doubt the absolute worst ever...read: They held us hostage for 3HOURS...4 levels of pressure, and you are off site and would have to walk about 1/2 mile if they refuse to take you back to the hotel! We have stayed at this resort 5 times, and will not ever go to a Mayan Palace resort again after this experience.

Room Tip: There is no elevator in main building so ask for handicapped accessible to get first floor.

Fun place for kids with activities around the pool and beach and resort staff keeping things moving. Limited choices for adults with no nightlife and only two eating venues (pool cafe and main restaurant). Other than golf, the best options are turn off the cell phone, get to know your partner and/or a good book, and turn in early. Distance to Rocky Point (45minutes) is not a negative... you are much safer in the resort and not missing anything in town.

Everything except the gym and pool towels costs extra including bottled water, coffee in room, and internet. Don't use cash. Exchange rate was much better charging to my room and paying the bill in pesos using my credit card (12.4 peso/dollar from Visa vs. 10 pesos/dollar hotel rate).

Room Tip: Only half of of the rooms face the sea / pool; you won't like the view from the other half.

This place was really nice and clean. The service was very good and the staff was very helful in all our needs. The hotel is a little far from town but if you want to relax this is the place to be.I would give 5 stars but the hostess an old lady was so rude to us because we didnt want to take a tour for the time sharing I should of complained with the manger but i didnt want to make it a big deal other than that I would love going agian I had such a fun time with my family and my kids loved it!!!

This is a very nice hotel with a great beach. However, it is very isolated and a $45 round trip cab ride to town. If you want to just relax and play on the beach, this is the place for you. The hotel provides no entertainment except the worst Mexican Fiesta that I have ever been to. There is nothing to do at night and only one choice for dinner and lunch. The buffet dinner is expensive and not very good. We did eat off the a la carte menu and the food was pretty good. Also, the drinks are very expensive unless you go to happy hour. We really enjoyed lunch at the only restaurant to serve it. This hotel needs more eating options and some nightime entertainment. We did take a city tour, but were no so impressed with the town either. We will not return here. There are many other places in Mexico we like much better.

It couldn't have been more perfect. It was off season and the staff was busy getting the place ready for the big such, but we were never neglected. The staff was attentive and made sure all of our requests were taken care of. They went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time and we did. The weather was perfect.

Room Tip: Having a car is a good idea because the resort is 26 miles on the outskirts of their port area where...

The resort is getting run down. Food is expensive, drinks are expensive. Our rooms were just ok nothing great. The gardeners us the weed wacker all day long, to noisy!!! The construction on the other side is a joke. They move the sand around all day for a show for the time share viewers. They have been doing that for 4 years now. The beach had so many cucumber slugs all over. You really cant go in the water eck!!. They need to pave there road and parking lot. They do not give you Wifi it will cost you $10 per day per device, and the computer room will also cost you. The gym is old, that also cost you $10 a day or $35 for the week for everyone in one room. They really nickel and dime you. The food is ok, if you eat in the dining room get the bacon wrap shrimp it is not on the menu but it was the best. The food was not consistent The buffet is not worth it. Bring your own food and drinks. I will never go back, town is a ---- hole

Beautiful resort, but it's very far removed from the town of Puerto Penasco, and it will take you 20-30 minutes to get to any store or market of any kind, so be warned! If you can live with this, and don't mind paying for rest and relaxation, and the conveniences of being away, you will be pleased. Prices are high, since they know you are a captive audience, and don't have many options. We liked the pool area - it's beautifully done, and the hotel itself is very good by Mexican standards. The staff is friendly, and the hotel is very clean and well kept. We only stayed for oneday, and it was perfect for what we needed.
