We arrived with two adults, two kids and two dogs, the house was clean and tidy although there were a few issues which were reported to management. Overall though the cottage was what we wanted, it was old in an area steeped in history, a booklet was in the cottage explaining the essentials and giving a history of the properties and current and previous owners. The gardens are well kept and a small play area for kids and adults, a heated indoor pool for all and tennis court, it also has a sauna and jacuzzi which are available to the manor guests only. There are bridle ways and footpaths leading away from the property. Some of the other land available to use is a little overgrown with long grass, ie to run your dogs and kids. There is a lot of cattle and foxes squirrels etc so unless very obedient, don’t let your dog off the lead. The gate cottage was pretty well equipped we found most kitchen utensils we wanted. The beds were very comfortable, and had clean fresh linen. I will say the stairs are very steep! WiFi is slow but does work. Tv video and radio in the lounge. There is an oil burner so there was plenty of hot water, we didn’t use the heating, log fire place in the lounge with logs. The toilet shower over bath is downstairs. The garden is huge with some of it in a wooded area and it is secure for both kids and dogs. The cottage has been modernised in the past but is now in need of a makeover. Would we go again or recommend to others, yes we would.
Gate Cottage at Pekes Manor is a slightly more private experience than the other properties of Pekes Manor. As such, it offers a nice level of privacy. The experience of our wedding guests was 5 out of 5 stars. All loved the beautiful scenery and the tranquil feel of the property. Highly recommended.
I agree on all the already written good reviews :-)!
Also a big plus: there is a lot to see in the near area
Little places like Alfriston and Lewes, lots of antique shops
More little shops, vintage and antiques in
Hastings (the warf, and close by Highstreet, Georgestreet) and
Brighton (the Laines)
Go have a drink and a chat with the local people in Six Bells
A great meal in The Gun
And when you want to see 7 sisters, a great view from Newhaven!
We really enjoyed our stay at Gate Cottage - it had everything we needed and is set in a beautiful place.
Gate Cottage has become very dear to us as we have stayed many times since 2009! The location is stunning, charming little cottage and Pekes Manor itself is so beautiful and peaceful. Being dog friendly is a priority for us and Gate Cottage is perfect for us and our dogs!
This was the first time using Airbnb and as a family with young children and a dog I was slightly nervous of the process. However Kildare couldn’t have been a better host, great communicator and really well explained arrival information. The cottage was such a lovely country cottage, location spectacular and we really enjoyed our stay. We will book again!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location excellent for a quiet get away not too far from Brighton & Eastbourne. Swimming pool, jacuzi and sauna fantastic. Being able to bring our dog was an added bonus. House warm & cosy, we will definately be back. Would totally recommend staying here.
