We opted to visit the Xalapa Museum of Anthropology rather than Mexico City's because of the amount of time we would have. This museum does an excellent job of telling many stories in a clear and concise manner. Excellent artifacts. We did buy a guide book in the museum bookstore for about $10 since nothing is interpreted in English.

The entire experience was great. Very inexpensive admission and lovely building. English headphones for self guided tour. Make sure to check out the gift shop and sit and rest with a fresh Espresso.

The region of Veracruz is a very historic region but it was define by its indigenous culture before its colonization by the Spanish. Find out about the indigenous tribes and their organizational hierarchy here at the Anthropology Museum. The Museum is not in the center part of the city, so therefore, you will need a taxi if you are coming from central for the cost of 50 MXN pesos (less than $5). The entrance fee is also 50 MXN pesos but be advised that the journey through Veracruz Indigenous history is long ( about 3 hours). No flash photos are allowed for regular patrons unless you pay a professional fee to do so. I found the museum very interesting and took many photos. However, I was very hungry afterwards, so I could recommend Pollo Feliz across the street for lunch because the food and atmosphere are excellent there.

Located near the centre of the city is the beautiful museum of Anthropology. For the low price of 25 pesos (about 1.50gbp) you get to explore many different eras of Mexican architecture and artifacts. There is a beautiful large garden available to break up the different sections. There is a great cafe that sells fresh coffee and cake and also a high-end restaurant if you wish to dine. The shop has an abundance of books and trinkets to take home. An extremely pleasant day out in Xalapa.

If you are visiting this region this museum is not to be missed! It is the second largest collection of pre-hispanic art after the Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. However, this museum covers more ancient works. The Museum is a soothingly modern design. Be sure to get headsets or a guide.
