I will list some points to explain why this hotel is so terrible:

- The restaurant served us rotten fish (food was bad in general).
- It was very noisy. One night, for example, there was a loud private party in the lobby and the reception people said that they couldn't do anything about that. We had just moved room because before we stayed facing the street with a loud disco.
- The swimming pool was super dirty.
- There was a storm and parts of the building were falling down, for example: big parts of the ceiling in the corridors.
- We had to go many times a day to the reception to update our key cards so that we could get into our room.

There are no words to describe how awful this hotel is. Not only are the rooms dirty , beds uncomfortable, and furniture falling apart but people were running up and down the halls all night screaming and laughing so we got no sleep.

Well, to put it shortly. This is not a hotel you might want to stay at. There are several points to make that case. In no particular order:

- The place is pretty run down, haven't seen a good renovation in probably 20 years. Which means that there are things not working and signs of wear and tear everywhere.

- The staff is incompetent, something as simple as getting a door unlocked took 5 trips to the reception.

- The pool is dirty.

- The restaurant staff is indifferent, they were much more interested in following a local football match than attending their customers.

- The airconditioning in the two rooms we had was so noisy that you you had to keep it shut down to be able to sleep.

- There is some really funky odor in the bathroom...

- House keeping has problems cleaning, maintaing and stocking the room with essentials.

- Laundry services can't keep their promises, laundry that was supposed to be delivered within the day was not delivered.

I stay at this hotel for its good location, but of the three nights we stayed here two nights there were events with music until two o'clock, which was heard in the room perfectly. The bathroom had a bad odor permanently. The room is big like the bathroom and comfortable, but rest at night was not so pleasant.

Room Tip: request a room as far as possible to the party room

A hotel in a good area that is very rundown and has the feeling of almost being abandoned. I would not recommend staying here. Also I don't recommend travel to Xalapa, you will miss nothing by skipping Xalapa. Go to Coatepec and Xico instead - they are less crowded and polluted and less potentially dangerous than Xalapa. It seems people in Xalapa don't value N. American tourists and are resentful of your presence and want to make it known. Never quite experienced that in Mexico. Getting back to the hotel, it is expensive for the area and not worth the cost. Go to Coatepec and stay at the Posada Coatepec.

This is a run-down government hotel that hasn't been revamped since it was built sometime in the mid-70s. The service in the restaurant is so poor that it's comical and the rooms smell like humidity although the AC does work. Its location is not the best as it's about 15 minutes walking to downtown -- nothing special, by the way. Xalapa is best as a base to do something nearby as the local government has made horrible decisions about it's "conservation" and "planning" since the 1950s and basically destroyed the place. I wouldn't even recommend stopping here but heading to Xico or Coatepec immediately.

Room Tip: Stay away from the NOISY lounge and exterior bars.

We had the worst luck to be here during some of kids' sports tournament with literally 500-600 kids running around screaming. The apathetic/hostile/nonexistent service did nothing to improve things. Layout is kafkaesque, bedspreads have large visible unknown stains, windows to courtyard very thin. Staff are lucky they work on some kind of state subsidy or this hotel would never survive. Can't wait to check out ASAP.
