Service was the best I ever experience. Staff was great. My only con is the food grows tiring after a week. The food is just slightly above buffett food which is what it is but the sand, ocean, service made up for it. How I longed for a BBQ sandwich at the Atlanta airport.

The Hard Rock in Puerto Vallarta is excellent for those who want to have a relaxing vacation with some entertainment. The location is great for beach lovers and the pool areas are well maintained. Food and service were great and portions were nicely sized to allow you to "mix and match" entrée items which they did without hesitation.

One of the downfalls of traveling to Mexico is the dreaded hard beds, although this bed was very comfortable I think it may be part of the heavenly collection. The hotel was recently remodeled as it served as a location to a previous hotel. There is a small section of rooms with balconies but they are adult only rooms. The daily buffet was reptetive but good. The dinner restaurants were excellent and the service was fantastic. This hotel is located in the "new" part of Puerto Vallarta and so it's a bit isolated and about a 20 minute cab ride to the downtown area. We enjoyed our stay and plan to come back.

I would recommend Hard Rock Vallarta if you are thinking of going to Puerto or Nuevo Vallarta. It is not Four Seasons but it was good overall. I'll break down the review into sections.

1. Location: It is located in Nuevo Vallarta, which is much nicer than Puerto Vallarta. Nuevo is newer, more centralized to all the other places, like (Sayulitas--a surfing town, Bucerias --big street market) and its just a quick cab ride to Puerto Vallarta for the day. The beach is beautiful and is cleaned everyday. There is a LONG stretch that you can keep walking down, but you will be surrounded by all the other resorts. There are turtles hatching all along the water and lots of things to do.

2. Room: The rooms are standard and clean. There are no problems getting extra water, towels, or anything else you need. I had the sheets changed everyday.

3. Food: They had a wonderful buffet--there were even gluten free pastries in the morning. The lunch and dinner buffets had multiple themes like Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc...it's always safe to stick with the Mexican with fresh salsa and guacamole. On top of that, they have Brazilian nights and full Mexican nights with all sorts of great food. Every Sunday, they do a huge outdoor feast where the food stands are set out all throughout premise. There is also a big pizza stone oven that makes individual personalized pizza for you throughout the entire day. If you are into soy milk, the soy milk down there is excellent. It's slightly sweetened but tastes like creamer for your coffee. The buffet is very good in general; I shop at Whole Foods at home, for the reference point.

4. Pool: The is a good size pool, and the music is always on. They play a variety of music and it gets loud during the day. If that bothers you, the beach is nice and quiet so it should really be an issue. The lounges are only taken up during the peak seasons, but other than that, you shouldn't have a problem getting a lounge anywhere you want, as the perimeter of the pool is quite long in distance.

5. Overall: The staffs are nice, in general. They try to suck you into the time-share that you must NOT get sucked into. They will offer you some hotel credit but it is not worth your time. It takes hours upon hours of being sold to to get some credit you may not use--a lot of people mentioned how miserable the whole thing was for them, while I was there. You can use hotel credits (that you get from Expedia or something) for spas, zip-lining, tours, etc, but you have to pay a 16% or something like that in "service" charges which really just means you are paying for the overall thing but since they increase the fee appropriately, you think you are getting it for free. For example, the massage is costlier than a Shan-gri-la spa day if you were to pay up front, but I'm almost certain they are making taking home the same salary there in Hard Rock.

Room Tip: You want the rooms facing the pool closest to the Italian restaurant; I don't know which side it...

As a Hall of Fame member we had experienced the best VIP treatment ever at any of the Palace or Hard Rock Resorts over the past 6 years. While the resort was a bit smaller than we had previously experienced, the quality of service, rooms and most especially the staff were the best.

I always submit a review after all our trips because we rely on them so heavily when we're choosing our travel destinations (we travel to Mexico and/or the Caribbean a couple times per year).
So here's my honest review of the Hard Rock Vallarta...
The service was excellent!! Never did anyone ever act like a request was too much. From our room change request, to ordering special items at the restaurants, to showing up a little late to our spa appts, to asking for a late check out; never did anyone ever make us feel like it was a problem and everyone always seemed eager to please! They really believe in service with a smile! DO TIP EXTRA! A dollar goes a long way to show you appreciate the great service and will ensure that the great service continues- like drinks and snacks coming without being ordered which is always a nice surprise!
The pool area was very nice and we spent most of our time there lounging around and soaking up the sun- the weather was always beautiful! There are plenty of lounge chairs and lots of room to spread out so you don't have to squeeze in or worry about saving chairs.
The view from our room was beautiful! We stayed on the 6th floor. The first floor rooms may have been nice because they have a patio area and you can walk right out to the pool area from your room. Seemed pretty convenient but may also be louder in the rooms at night with the close proximity to the pool & bar area. If you don't mind a little extra noise and the lack of a view, this might be the way to go. The rooms on all other floors don't have much of a balcony at all (unless you upgrade). The balconies are tiny- about 1 foot deep by 4 feet wide, just enough room to stand, but not comfortable for spending any time on.
Our room was a basic hotel room with a large jacuzzi tub right next to the bed, leaving very little open space to move around. The room itself is never very important to us though, as we spend very little time in our room while on vacation. The bed was not very comfortable for us, but the couple we traveled with said theirs was fine. We did notice that there were only a few English speaking channels on the TV the one night we turned it on, but again, not important to us, as we were in Mexico after all and we didn't travel all that way to watch TV.
The food was great at all 3 of 4 restaurants we tried (Brazilian, Italian and Asian). We never ate at the Mexican restaurant because we took a couple trips into town (Puerto Vallarta & Bucerias) and got our fill on Mexican food while there. There's only one restaurant open for breakfast- buffet style, but they do mix up the offerings each day so it's not always the same stuff. There's a couple places around the pool area to get lunch/snacks- like nachos, chicken strips, burgers, pizza, etc.. throughout the day.
My husband and I got a 1 hour couples massage on the beach and that was excellent! Best massages we've ever had! And the beach setting was very vice with the very warm weather and cool breeze! We used our Resort Credits for this so the total cost for both of us was $60 USD. (20% of the actual price), plus we tipped $10, so a very good value compared to what we would pay for this normally.
The couple of night time shows we attended were good- The fire show and the 70's/80's dance show. Both were great entertainment!
The location was OK. We didn't go out and walk around directly outside the resort as it didn't look like there was much within walking distance (judging by the views from our cab rides and from our room). The cab ride from the airport takes about 20 minutes ($15 USD), and into DT Puerto Vallarta is about 25-30 minutes ($19 USD). There was a Casino and a small "mall" like area directly across the street, but it never looked like there were people over there and it wasn't anything that drew our interest so we never explored it. Who knows- may have been worth checking out the surrounding area on foot, we just didn't.
The beach was just ok in my opinion, but I have been to many beautiful beaches on the Caribbean so this one just didn't measure up. I prefer soft white sand and the warm turquoise water, so this one was just not one of my favorites. The water was cold and darker so we never swam in the ocean. Many others did though, and seemed to be having a great time.
Overall, my husband and I prefer the larger resorts with more expansive grounds to walk around and explore and have more of a variety of bars, restaurants, pools & activities/entertainment. But many people like the smaller resorts because they have an intimate feel. Again, it's all about personal preferences!
Overall, this was a nice resort, a great value for the AI package price, and a great vacation mainly because of the service provided and the great weather! To us, service is one of the most important factors in how your vacation will turn out. Most everything else is what you make of it!

Happy Travels!!

We stayed at HR-Vallarta April 5-12 for our annual family spring break with my wife and teenage son.
Before I begin, let me say the service staff at the resort are very hard working, polite and wonderful people. They do whatever it takes to make your vacation a great experience. The grounds were beautiful! One of the nicest properties I have ever stayed at.
We chose the HR over two other properties we were looking at in Vallarta. We researched where we wanted and ultimately our teenage son chose the HR.
Check In went smoothly. We upgraded our room from a garden view to a beach view for about $30/night...well worth it! We met with our vacation advisor to go over various excursions available. He pushed us toward the ownership presentation. We weren't interested, he offered a few different options to attend a presentation but we politely said no and we moved on. If your interested, go learn if its something for you. If not, just say no and move on. They say 90 minutes...good luck keeping that timeframe.
Hotel-Awesome! Cool rock/roll memorabilia in the lobby and on the guest floors. Be sure to look all around the lobby area to see all the cool stuff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Rooms are typical hotel size (with a safe in the closet and the stocked fridge) with the exception of the jacuzzi tub in the room, which we never use except to store luggage, towels etc. Bathrooms were nice. Showers, no tub (jacuzzi in other room) Very limited countertop space. Not many hooks to hang towels. Showers can go from hot to hotter then cold quickly. Be prepared for water temp fluctuations. Very small balconies. We pulled the two desk chairs to the balcony to hang damp suits or to sit on at sunset and sunrise.
Public areas-Beach is GREAT! Lots of lounge chairs and miles of beach to walk! 2 pools. One was the activity pool with a swim up bar and water slide on the far end for kids. Other pool was quieter. Poolside service for drinks was good. You can always walk/swim up to the bar. Bartenders are great! Activities and music were good. Oliver, Ana, Lee and Carla do a great job getting guests involved in activities. They were always positive and upbeat. Fun group. Poolside music was good (Its a Hard Rock!) Hotel wasn't 100% occupied so limited number of guests to get involved in activities. But they did a great job getting people involved. Our last day around the pool was not good. There was a large business group that stayed at the hotel and took over the pool area. Over 150 of these people decided to use the pool area to do its team building activities. Ruined the morning for us and regular guests and Hard Rock owners. We and many other guests had to relocate to the other pool or beach. The scheduled morning poolside activities never happened due to this business group. Entertainment staff had to entertain the business group. Hard Rock Management HAD to know this group was going to do team building at the activity pool. Regular resort guests didn't go to meeting rooms and interfere with the company events, the company shouldn't have done events around the pool. But the sales staff and Hard Rock management approved it. If your considering the HR-Vallarta, check with the hotel if they are hosting a large business group that could interfere with your vacation.
Our son used the health club daily. It was right next to the pool. Good equipment and clean areas.
Outside trips (zip lining, tours, etc) You can use resort credits for most excursions.
The activities we participated in required our own transportation to/from We took a morning (best) ATV tour with Wild Treks Adventures. Great trip! Taxi about $18 each way (peso only) You will get dusty and dirty. Tip:take a small backpack for sunglasses, camera, money. Take pesos (not USD) when you make a scheduled stop at a village for a drink and opportunity to buy some food. Played golf at Flamigo's Golf, again had to pay for taxi to/from (about $15 each way). Course was nice. Club rentals were Callaway's or Taylor Made (Taylor Made were newer and nicer). Tip-check your Taylor Made driver to make sure loft is dialed into what you normally hit. Staff has a key to adjust your driver loft. We went to PV one night to get away. Taxi is about $20 each way. PV takes $USD. Nice town and people. We did resort massages which where nice. They cannot do deep tissue massage at outside beach location, but sound of waves was very therapeutic from the beach. We were interested in the zip lining until we found out it was almost a 2 hour bus ride-each way.

Dining-typical all inclusive meals.
Breakfast buffet was good. We sat in same area every morning. Carlos was our server every morning, he did a great job! HR has 4 sit down restaurants. Only 3 restaurants were open nightly. The International Buffet was NOT open for dinner the entire week! Very disappointing! I realize the hotel was not fully occupied and some restaurants were closed different nights...but that's not my problem, but we didn't have a choice. We would have enjoyed having a buffet option available a few of the nights. Had to choose from 3 of the open sit down restaurants nightly or use room service. My favorite restaurant was the Italian, the beachfront location was great. The Oriental Restaurant was good, enjoyed the sushi. Brazilian was good too. Didn't care for the Mexican. Room Service was good and fast.
Entertainment-a few shows during the week.
Fire show was great. We watched (partially) was the Michael Jackson show...we saw the exact same show in Cancun the last 2 years. LOL I encourage you to go, if you've never seen it. A few bands in the lounge during our stay. You have to stop by the front desk and get a sheet of activities for the day. They are not posted anywhere else, not even on the room televisions.

Notes:WiFi is spotty in rooms, better by the pools and lobby. Nice to have wifi available though. Tip your staff. They work hard either way, but they appreciate a tip showing your appreciation.
Will we go back to Hard Rock-Vallarta? Not sure. Of our choices (Hard Rock, RIU and Occidental), the Hard Rock was the most expensive. Had friends stay at the RIU the same week and loved every minute. Occidental is right next store to Hard Rock. Its smaller but really nice.
Again-the hard working staff was great!
Hope my comments/observations were helpful to your decision.

Room Tip: Upgrade to Ocean view. We were on the 5th floor. Lowest floors could be obstructed view of ocean. Gr...
