Myself and my girlfriend stayed at the Grand Marival Resort from April 2-9, 2004 and loved every minute of it. We both can't wait to go back to Puerto Vallarta and specifically the Grand Marival. We stayed in a superior room on the Grand side. The rooms were clean and very spacious. All of the superior rooms have a beautiful partial ocean view. Everynight we left the balcony door open to hear the ocean waves all night long. The resort has 1 buffet restaurant and 4 a la carte restuarants. All of which are top quality and for the most part the service was excellent. We found the La Pergola restuarant to consistantly have amazing service and high quality food. The activities staff was great and kept the entire trip very fun. The bar staff were very friendly and provided service that is second to none. The town of Puerto Vallarta exhibits a romantic beauty that will captivate anyone who travels there. Be sure to take some tours with "Vallarta Adventure". They are an local tour company that offers exciting tours with amazing staff. We will definately be back to Puerto Vallarta and we will be repeat customers of the Grand Marival.

This was our third time at the Marival! Our family of 4 (two 40 something adults and kids 8 & 14) spent spring break on the Grand side.
We think it's a great deal for the price. It's kept clean, the beach is great, water is always warm and great for boogie boarding and it's very relaxing. We usually have a partial ocean view which is great.

I must say I can live without evening entertainment (which hasn't changed since we started coming here), but what can you expect for free.

The specialty restaurants are terrific, but the menu service is also available for lunch and breakfast. Usually we were too impatient to order and wait, but a couple times we took our time and enjoyed better food from the menu. The staff at Marival really tries hard, once in a while they blow it, but that's the exception not the rule. The restaurant and cleaning staff works non-stop.

Beautiful beach walk day or night past empty beach as well as other resorts. Even though Marival was not as fancy as the competitors, everyone I talked to who stayed somewhere else had a lot of complaints about food at their spot. Marival specialty restaurants save you from the boredom of constant buffets

Be warned--this is not a couples resort, it's for families. The water slide, kiddie pools and kids club should give it away. The kids at the resort behaved just fine, the embarassing guests were the few drunk adults we saw by the pool in late afternoon a few times.

By the way, prior complaints about hair dryers and irons are silly. The hotel brought them to us right away without complaint. It is mexico, so you do need a bit of patience.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand and Club Marival from April 3 - 9, 2004. We are in our early 30's. This was our 3rd stay at an all-inclusive resort, the first 2 stays being at Sandals resorts in Jamaica. We believe this resort was an excellent value. The resort itself was beautiful and immaculately clean and well-kept. Our room was on the Club side, so it was a little older and in need of some updates, but how much time do you spend in your room? Yes, the beds and pillows are especially hard, but this is typical when traveling. There are 4 ala carte restaurants to choose from for dinner, and my recommendation is to definitely try all of them! You'll get enough of the average buffet at breakfast and lunch...definitely take advantage of the great food at the ala cartes for dinner. We had Italian twice, Mexican twice, International once, and the Steak house once. The view at sunset while eating outside at the Steak house is breathtaking. Actually, you can see the sunset at all of the restaurants, even if you're inside. The bars are good and nicely spaced throughout the resort. We had above average service wherever we were. Yes, there was a language barrier at times, but nothing that wasn't tolerable. The animation staff is "just right" in my opinion for trying to get you involved. The nightly shows were unique and fun. I did think the variety of watersports to choose from was lacking, as the only things that you can do that you don't have to pay for are kayaking, boogie boarding, and taking out the hobie cat. Parasailing and jet skiing are available by vendors for a price.
It is not a private beach, so vendors walk the beach all day. I didn't mind them nearly as much as the people trying to sell time shares. You only have to tell a vendor no once, and they will keep walking. The time share people are pests. Actually, we bought 95% of our souvenirs from the beach vendors. Their selection was better in choice and price than what we found at the flea market in town. We have a 2 1/2 year old son, although we did not bring him on the trip. He would have loved it though...it is a very family friendly resort. If you're looking for couples only, this is not the place for you. But if you don't mind kids, then this place is great. The variety of pools was also nice. And have I mentioned the beach yet? Beautiful, fantastic stretch of beach!
Very awesome! Again, I will say that for the money, this is an excellent place to vacation. My husband and I are already recommending it to our friends, and we would definitely go again. And the Nuevo Vallarta area is just beautiful...very worth it to be off the beaten path of the hotel strip in town.

My husband and 2 kids ages 10 and 15 stayed at the Grand and Club Marival from April 4-9, 2004 for spring break. We had a fantastic time!
I was concerned about some of the negative reviews that I have read, but I was confident that we would have a good time because of all that the resort has to offer. We have stayed at many all-inclusives in Mexico, and I do believe that this is one of the best! First of all, they have a great selection of restaurants to choose from. Most all-inclusives don't have 5 different choices for dinner. We ate at a different one each night, the Italian restaurant and sunset at the outdoor steakhouse were our favorites. I was surprised that the sunset at 8:15, giving us more time to enjoy the day.

We stayed in the Grand side, and our room had a lovely view of the ocean. The weather was in the mid 80's, and at night we did not need to run the air, we left the screen door to the balcony open, and enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the waves.

The animation team was fun and lively. There was plenty for all of us to be involved in. The shows each night were funny and entertaining. We also went horseback riding twice, and we got to see the area by going on the bicycle tour. (Big tip- the horseback riding can only accomodate 6 people and you must reserve it the day before starting at 7 am!) We did have to get up and reserve chairs by the pool by 8am if you wanted a good choice, but this was not a problem for us. The beach was good for boogie boarding, and we also took the kayaks out. There are vendors on the beach, and they do have some good deals if you like to bargain, like we do. My 10 year old daughter enjoyed the kids club and water slides, while my 15 year old son participated in many of the activities.

The staff was excellent and we had a much needed fun and relaxing spring vacation! If you want a great family vacation, come to the Grand and Club Marival. I know we will be coming back!

P.S. I was told that starting in May, they are beginning a big renovation on the Club side. This will be going on for months, and they hope to be 5 star status when it is done.

I am a frequent traveler of PV and have had the priviledge of staying at the Grand Club Marival. Overall, I thought that the place was outstanding. Not a 5 star (because I have too high expectaions for those). My only complaint would be of children running loose and cutting into food lines and such. Of all of the places that we've stayed in PV, the Marival has the best selection of dining that I've been to. Reservations are easy and we never failed to make a reservation. Selection is awesome. None of that "only one reservation" per week thing that I've seen some places do or only having one restaurant to choose from. The food was great. Don't believe the negatives about this place. Number 1, this is Mexico where you are getting a top dollar resort at a bottom dollar price. Far too many people think that they are paying for Mexico, but expecting the plane to plop them in first class seats and turn the plane towards Paris and pamper them the entire time. Most vacations are directly related to what a traveler makes it. Are there going to be bumps in the road or experiences that don't make your highlight reel? Of course, but I assure you that you will get a top notch vacation at a very reasonable price if you choose to stay at the Marival.

We took our two children, ages 15 and 18, and the 18 year old took a friend and we had a fantastic time. It started with the airport at Puerta Valleta! It was so much more efficient than when we went to Cancun two years ago! When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with frozen drinks as we were checking in. Our room was ready at 10:30 in the morning when we got there! The hotel staff was very friendly. Especially the Animation Staff! Thank you for a wonderful relaxing Spring Break! I was worried that the resort would be too big and we would be lost, but that was not the case. We had no trouble getting reservations at any of the a la carte restuarants. The food was good too.

Having gone to Mexico for the first time we weren't sure what to expect.

First Puerto Vallarta & Nuevo Vallarta are just beautiful. The Sierra Madre mountains were breathtaking. The people are very cordial and friendly to visitors from away. We got at the hotel and were promptly checked in and found no difficulties in getting a room with a king size bed which we had requested. The staff was wonderful. The food was fantastic. The theme nights were great and yes, there is plenty for children to do. It was just the two of us and we were not bothered by families with kids but were bothered by the guys that were constantly trying to get you to go and see the time shares and other real estate property that were available. Not the best thing to have when you are trying to relax on the beach. (which is where they can only talk to you and P.S. they are ready to pounce on you at the airport when you arrive in Puerta Vallarta. The weather was absoultely wonderful and can't wait to visit again. The Grand & Club Marival was a wonderful 1st time All-inclusive resort for us to have experienced. We would diffinently return and will recommend this resort to anyone. Thanks again for a great vacation!
