We enjoyed our visit, we got a friendly greeting on arrival. We were in a 1 bedroom suite, we did have some issues that were fixed the next day. Lorena was our house keeper, she wowed us with her towel art, we enjoyed her work. The staff at the Marival is very friendly, we enjoy coming back. The A la carte restaurants are good, we enjoyed Amalfi, the Italian had very nice choices of entrees, the servers are great here, the suggest meals or desserts. The Pergola (Mediterranean restaurant) is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, good salad bar. The Mexican restaurant was disappointing. The buffet was closed for our last days at the resort, great time to do the work with 40% full, but they failed to let the guest know what was going on? It took a little while but everyone got to eat. LOL
The Beach is very clean, Sunny and 30 degrees every day with good friends, good food and cold drinks, what else could you ask for!!!!!!!!!!!

So this was our 5th time at the Marival, but we had enough smaller issues to make us look elsewhere next year for a change. First of all, the bars-they ran out of Bailey's for two days, and this was with the resort half-empty, just not acceptable. They also decided to close down the main buffet and shifted the meals to various other venues, some outside. They never told us about this when we checked in, nor anytime after, so we were left on our own to figure out where the food was being served each day! This also significantly reduced the food selection. They have also done away with the bottled beer which could be had at some of the indoor bars in the evening. House keeping was also inconsistent-they forgot to clean our room one day, and fridge re-stocking was also inconsistent.

The resort is also renovating to exclude certain parts of the resort and beach from general all-inclusive guests and reserve these areas for their "gold members."

On the plus side, rooms were clean, bar service was good, and the food, when you found it, was also good, including the a la cartes. The Mexican restaurant had the poorest food quality of the three. Staff was friendly and helpful and they had the room ready that we asked for.

So Marival, you have some work to do if you want us back for sixth..

We are very much looking forward to our trip back this January. We've stayed at 5 different resorts over the past 13 years and keep Going Back to the Marival (7 or 8 times in total). They just do everything really well and have a seamless operation (the Marival is Canadian owned).

We see the same staff year after year so they can always answer any questions and are great at anticipating needs. My wife and I were married there in 2009 and our upcoming trip is for our friend's wedding as they enjoyed the Marival so much when we were married (and have been back themselves multiple times).

As for our wedding it exceeded our expectations! Mariette was an incredible help to us and we had a perfectly executed day- and Mariette was there to welcome us when we returned in 2010 with our new baby. Mariette is our unofficial Mexican family member and we're looking forward to seeing her again!

There are always lots of food options- Los Pergola is our favourite for breakfast and lunch- The Italian is wonderful for dinner and the Late Night munchies are always satisfied by the wood-fired pizzas. The outdoor cafes are always serving a variety of foods during the day. The Buffet always has a good selection of foods- and the Rib/BBQ night is probably the best of the Buffet's theme nights. They always have late night food available so if you are up late you don't have to go to bed hungry.

The Disco varies from night to night as to how busy it is but there are 3 other bars that are open in the evening. One usually has live entertainment and the upstairs piano bar has a nice selection of 'top shelf' spirits if you're tired of cocktails and beer from the day ; )

There are four pools: 2 fun, 1 kids and 1 quiet. We'll be spending time in the kids pool this year but the other 2 pools are always a good time and when needed the quiet pool is just that- and the resort staff makes sure there are no kids in it.

One of the best features we have found is that many of the resorts we've stayed at have all of the entertainment (theatres/discos) in the middle of their complexes so the evenings/nights can be quite noisy. The Marival's theatre and disco are at the entrance of the complex before you get to the accommodations area so it always very peaceful in the evenings.

The Gym is always clean with a variety of free weights and machines so you can actually do a real work-out.

Overall- they just do a very good job of everything at the Marival- the staff are friendly, it's always clean and there's always some good food only a few steps away. You can walk the beach in either direction and you notice that no matter what time of year it is- the Marival resort is always busy when others are suspiciously quiet.

We stayed there for a week and had a good time. The buffet options were lower quality than I would have liked but the a la carte options were fantastic and the staff were all great.

The entertainment staff who are supposed to encourage others to play volleyball were hogging the Volleyball court though.

First time at the Marival. Fantastic vacation the staff went above and beyond and were amazing. Particularly Jazmine, and Jose at the front desk. We also want to thank Gina for her exceptional thoughtful attention.

We experienced a medical situation unrelated to the resort itself and the staff went out of the way to see how I was feeling.

We were there for 10 days and were very impressed by the variety, quality and taste of the food.

The grounds were immaculate and there was so many staff the service was 5 star.
For the reviews that suggest there were too many folks from Mexico at the resort-it is Mexico and of course they were on vacation as well. We enjoyed getting to know people from Mexico and enjoyed the energy they brought to the resort.

Beach and pools awesome. Paddled with dolphins in the bay and you can walk forever on the beach. We plan to return next year around the same time of year.

Ps. Rhythms of the night is great and worth the money.

We visited Marival resorts for the fifth time last month. With each visit the quality has declined a bit. The wine they serve is undrinkable,you need to stop somewhere and buy your own if you like wine. Bar drinks are watery but ok. The buffet is very marginal. We only ate there once. With their policy of only two specialty restaurants in a week stay, the options for food are not very good.
They have closed the steak house and the pizza place served cold pizza both times we tried it.

The specialty restaurants are good. We ate at both the Italian and Mexican and the food and service were great. La Pergola is consistent for breakfast and lunch,with healthy choices for both meals. .

On the flip side, the hotel rooms (although old) are very clean. Forget the remodeled rooms they show you on tour, there are only two with no plans for near future remodels. The beach is lovely
and the pool areas are varied.

The staff is wonderful and the effort put into ground maintenance is truly admirable. The Fiesta night is truly amazing and they work all day on the set up.

Stay away from their time share presentations.they are a scam. You will not get what you think.

That being said,we still like the place but would love to see improvement in the quality of wine served, the quality of the buffet food and the room updates that we have been told are underway. If they cannot upgrade the buffet, they should offer at least 3 dining options per week.

Room Tip: It is best to stay on an upper floor.

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We regret you found the quality of wine and food less than satisfactory during your most recent stay with us and we will take your feedback into consideration and make sure to address your concerns to the Food & Beverages manager. We welcome any opportunity to improve.
In reference to the number of reservations, the cards given at the check in for our specialties a la carte restaurants, depend on the number of nights of stay and the resort ensures at least half of the total of nights, this way most of our guests have the opportunity to enjoy these culinary experiences.
We also would like to share with you that we are working on a renovation program that includes the rooms along with other improvements to the Hotel. We have started replacing some of the old televisions for flat screens. The resort upgrades will be taking place over the next several months.
We are glad you enjoyed our fantastic location and friendly staff, though. We take great pride in the service we provide our guests. Please come stay with us again soon and we will do our best to make your stay more enjoyable.

We got married in January 2012 at Marival. The resort was a bit run down and a bit confusing if you made a wrong turn because it was so big. The wedding was beautiful but my coordinator was changed half way through which was confusing. I didn't have many options, as they gave me 2 or 3 options and I had to choose from them. We had a small wedding with 10 guests. I didn't appreciate strangers standing in my wedding and my photographers would only photograph on the beach. I paid 600 USD for a disc of 200 of the same photo background. And because we got married at sunset we didn't have very long to get pictures. Our reception was terrible because they just threw us in the middle of a restaurant among other guests. We took some taxis to town and went to señor frogs and down to the malecon and it was good, I felt mostly safe. The resort is good if you aren't expecting a 5 star service. You have to go early in the morning to get a boogie board and a lounge chair otherwise you are stuck just sitting on the sand. The water is unbelievably dirty, and we were picking out sunglasses and hats and bottles and what have you out of the water constantly. The people selling you stuff is a bit irritating but you get that no matter what resort you go to. Considering what we paid to get married there I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are just going to get away it would be fine.
