“Excellent little budget priced hotel”
Reviewed 23 February 2011

If you are looking for a nice, basic hotel with lots of local flavor, Villa Varadero is perfect. The rooms are clean and well kept, the staff is friendly and helpful, the beach is beautiful and restful. It is a perfect place to rest, relax and rejuvenate. The food was Mexican fare and was above average for a small hotel. Grest fresh fruit, yogurt, omelets, enchalidas, chicken dishes, etc. Hamburgesia con queso at the beach palapa. The only bar is located between the beach and the hotel, so it is convenient to both.
I had an ocean view room furnished with carved, wooden furniture, tile floor and granite in the bathroom. Coffee pot, small refrig and microwave were in the room. There were always plenty of beach chairs/loungers available and towels are provided at the front desk. There is a bus stop just out the front door, so one can go into PV if desired. There is also a marina, square with restaurants, Fenix massage, and a small animal water show just across the street.
The only down side to the entire hotel was that both restaurants (beach and inside) were furnished with plastic chairs and tables that had no Mexican ambiance. I felt like I was in a cafeteria. That is ok at the beach palapa, but I would have enjoyed dinner more if there had been better furnishings in the dining room. I loved this little place and will return.

Have I got news for you! We are in the process of updating the Mesa del Capitan as well as some of the menu offerings. When you next come to stay with us, and hopefully you will, you’ll see the improvements to the decoration of the restaurant. Thank you for mentioning that the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, and the beach is restful. These are some of the things that we really keep at the top of our list.

Briefly:
We stayed at a super duper mega resort with a million pools and a million Americans just down the beach the previous week. All the luxuries, many mega frustrations, none of the soul. We appreciated the Villa Varadero much, much more and our favorite memories will be from this small hotel.

It's Mexican run, with a great mix of guests, genuine hospitality and smiles from a young staff, a quiet spot on the beach with palapas and the best: rooms with floor to ceiling windows which you slide open to see dolphins playing, whales breaching in the distance, beautiful sunsets, Puerto Vallarta sparkling in the distance at night. You feel as if you are on a ship sailing out to sea as soon as you wake up and raise the window shades. The colors here are bright and clean. The compact grounds are full of palms. You feel serene here and welcomed. You're also convenient to the bus, which stops right outside; to Paradise Village, which has services and shops; to Vallarta Adventures, the best tour company; and to a few good restaurants and the small marina. The hotel restaurants and bar provide drinks and food at your fingertips as you lounge at the beach. You are so comfortable you forget about the things you meant to accomplish before you left home. You just want to lie there.

Just a few suggestions for the Villa V: they try hard with the food, and there were a few very nice dishes, but overall the food needs some help. You have to keep reminding yourself that you are paying practically nothing for the combined hotel and all-inclusive, and thus the average food is really acceptable. My biggest complaint is that they really need to heat the main pools. I snorkeled the cold waters at the Marietas islands, and these pools seemed to be almost as cold! We also would have appreciated service at the beach palapas.

Otherwise, we heartily recommend this lovely, simple, small, authentically Mexican hotel, and we so appreciate its remarkably affordable price. So what IS luxury? If you want a friendly, comfortable, authentic Mexican experience, the Villa Varadero is a little gem.

Thank you for writing such a positive and comprehensive review of our hotel. We are proud that you agree that the hotel is a “little gem”. We do our best to provide good, friendly service that makes our guests feel like they’re part of the family. It’s something we’ve prided ourselves on since the hotel opened and not just a tagline we throw around. Since we are in the process of updating our menu, hopefully you’ll see the improvements the next time you come to stay with us.

My husband and I spent eight nights at the Villa Varadero and were satisfied with our stay! The beach is just steps from the hotel and our stay was relaxing and quiet which what we were looking for on our trip. We had an ocean view room which had a beautiful vview and the room was clean. We had all inclusive and the food was good but not alot of choices as you would have at a bigger hotel but none the less was usually something that you could eat. There are a few restaraunts close that are extremely good and not bad priced. Guido's and Eddies. The staff were accomodating and friendly. If you are looking for alot of action and entertainment this hotel is not probably for you. The beach is kept nice but I would recommend more comfortable lounge chairs on the beach as they were the white plastic and after many hours of sunbathing can get uncomfortable. There was no waiters on the beach to bring you food or drink but the bar and lunch area are conveniently located next to beach. The drinks were not top notch liquor and were not the best but the bartenders would be willing to try to make you something that was good. Would be nice if they used fresh fruit instead of syrup but for the value they were drinkable. They have byciclesfor the guest to use and we enjoyed taking those to go to the bank or the other side of the marina to shop. The marina and small park across from the Villa is beautiful and quiet. The buses run right in front of the hotel and it was alot more inexpensive to take the bus to get into Puerto vallarta then a taxi. You do need to change buses at the Walmart and hop onto another but it was very easy and they are marked clearly. The villa has many customers that are native Mexicans vacationing and for Super Bowl Sunday they had a super bowl party which was aired in Spanish. This did not accomadate us and a few other American couples that were staying there as we don not know the language so we went to Eddies across the street for the game which was close and had a great time. the reason the hotel told us that it would be aired in Spanish was because most guests were Mexican. I have stayed at many all inclusives in Mexico and usually the guest are Canadians or Americans and this was not true for this hotel. However besides the language barrier for myself this was not a problem and our stay was very enjoyable safe clean and relaxing. We would stay here again and would love to go back as it is a great value for your money.. Would recommend their spa also only $35 for almost an hour back rub! Sounds like people staying at other hotels come as what a deal. Thank you Villa and hope to see you next year!

So glad to hear that you took advantage of one of our massage treatments. They are really great, affordable, and as you mentioned open to anyone – even non-guests of the hotel. Thank you for mentioning details about your stay as that helps other travelers get a sense of what it’s like at our hotel and the local area. As you mentioned, there are a lot of Mexicans that stay here and we are proud to be a Mexican hotel with international guests especially since we do have a lot of guests that come from elsewhere. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed good service from our bilingual staff. We really do hope to see you on your next trip to Vallarta next year!!

We stayed here in March of 2010 for one week with the all inclusive. Beach was great, nice and clean, not too many people trying to sell you stuff on the beach. Lots of chairs, never had to wait for a palapa.

Hotel lets you borrow bikes for free. Bus that goes into Puerto Vallarta or going the other way towards Bucerias stops right in front of the hotel, we never had to wait long for it.

Food was ok, breakfast was usually the best meal. Only one restaurant, not sure if the restaurant was even open for lunch on some days as we usually ate only in the snack bar by the pool. Only one bar (the one by the beach) was open when we were there but the hotel is small enough that that was ok with is. Chepe was a wodnerful bartender, always remembered your drink and was so friendly, always greeted us with a smile. Rest of the staff was nice and helpful too.

Lost of mexican families on the weekends, which we preferred and didn't mind. If your preference is a hotel with north american guests only, this place is not for you. Why go to Mexico if you don't want to see Mexicans?

This is not a 5 star and not fitting for those who are high maintenance. But if you're looking for a nice relaxing vacation and have an open mind, you will enjoy your stay here.

This was our sixth stay at Villa Varadero and I'm exceedingly reluctant to talk about how great it is for fear it'll be over-run with gringos next year and we'll be unable to get in. Gabby is a wonderful host and there were a few improvements this year.

A well-rendered depiction of colonial Mexico architecture there's wonderful detail everywhere you look. The rooms are comodious, comfortable, and equipped with fridges and microwaves so you can stock your own beverages and snacks. And here's an insider's tip: The Oxxo about a block from VV has cheaper sodas and beer and snacks than Wal-Mart!

The staff is fabulous! Diego, Jimmy, Juan Carlos, Albia, Karina are always willing to field our questions with as much detail as we want and help us learn Spanish or provide details for a destination reachable by cheap buses for an authentic off-campus Mexican adventure. This year we did day trips to Tepic and El Tuito and had great experiences! Insiders tip: The bus stop is 100' from the VV entrance and runs right to the airport.

The restaurants at VV are good and have improved under Gabby. We typically get the breakfast plan to allow us the flexibility of trying out different places for dinner. The made-to-order omelets are tops! Though I wish they'd make chorizo available too. Miseal, Sara, Christian, Hugo, and Francisco (our daily breakfast crew) are warm, inviting, and helpful. Be sure to do dinner on Mexican night at Drake's! Insiders tip: They sell VV travel mugs for $5 and work great to keep beverages hot or cold and make for fewer trips to the bar and beach sand out of your drink. Get one for everyone! 40p to fill it with coffee at Drake's was expensive so we typically ran to Oxxo to fill it for 10p.

Anna Christina supplied us with blankets and smiles and greeted us whenever we ran into her making us feel a part of the VV family...

Yes, positively, We will visit VV again next year! If they have room for us...

Gracias amigos...

Great place, very authentic, great beach which is gromed every morning. I would recomend to upgrade to ocean view and I would not recomend the all inclusive. The breakfast come with the room rate and was very good, but we saw what they served for the other meals and it did not look so great, But there is a wonderful place called EDDIE'S just a block away with great food and very good prices. The beds are as hard as a rock but other than that this place was great.

My wife, my 3 year old daughter, and I stayed at Villa Varadero late November/early December 2008 for 1 week. We had the All Inclusive option.

Resort guests were mainly Mexican families on vacation. Many involved extended families. For several days we were the only Americans. That was pretty cool.

The food and the serving hours were very much geared towards these guests. Late breakfast hours. Late dinner hours. But it was very good.

We drank the bar out of beer on more than one occasion...so we switched to liquor. Bummer.

The beach was excellent and quiet. Never had any issues.

The hotel offers older bikes for guest to use as well as kayaks and boogie boards. We used the bikes on a couple of occasions.

The rooms were spacious and clean.

Overall...we loved it and would consider going back, though we like to explore other accommodations and experiences.

This resort is perfect for families and those looking for a low-key, quiet and relaxing experience.

It's location is very close to the Seaquarium and a marina. There are many areas to walk along and explore during the day. Just outside the hotel, you can catch a bus to the more touristy area of Nuevo Vallarta or into downtown Puerto Vallarta or to Walmart.
