“Tower 4 for a week”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

My family and I just returned from Grand Luxxe Spa Tower top floor and greatly enjoyed the beautiful room and view. Service was excellent by all staff and our rep, Fred Deblois, was extremely helpful and eager to please. Fred is awesome! We look forward to many more wonderful family vacations at this resort and can't wait to use all the new amenities and pools currently under construction.

Room Tip: In the Luxxe, buildings, you need to decide if you're a sunrise or sunset person. If you're...

Just returned from Grand Luxxe Nuevo . The facility, staff, ambiance and grounds are outstanding. Food and restaurants are great but tend to be a little pricy. All of the staff are warm and friendly a make every effort to assist when needed. Our sales representative, NIKKI LLOYD, has always been most professional and has kept us informed of changes and opportunities. Her personality and sincere interest in our needs is greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the golf facilities an the staff - cudos to Felix, all caddies and staff. The ongoing construction tends to be noisy but did but did not interfere with our enjoyment. It should be over soon! "Campus" security was good and we always felt safe. The arrival/check in system can be annoying but, once you arrive in your room you are on a most wonderful vacation.

I just came back from a week at the Grand Luxxe Spa. I was disappointed that tower does not have an ocean view, but with it;s location, that is not possible! The experience was great. Only improvement would be completion of pools at tower 4.
I visited with Aggie York about the upcoming progress at the resort. That was a pleasant experience also.
I will be back in Oct. and hope to see the new completed pools.

Enjoyed our vacation . We were there for 7 weeks. Only concern was the amount of noise because of the construction around our rooms. This should not happen next year as construction of buildings are scheduled to be completed by Nov.

When we bought into the GL some years ago we tried to negotiate in "elite weeks," which are Easter Week and Christmas Week. However the price was prohibitive no matter how hard we tried. So this time I traded an HGVC week for a week at the Grand Bliss during our Spring Break. Ironically, instead of paying the normal maintenance fee, I paid a couple of hundred through San Francisco Exchange. Once there we upgraded back to the GL by agreeing to a presentation.

Holy Week -- as the locals call it -- is marvelous at the resort, and we spent all of our time at the GM, as the GL is pretty dead if you have teens. It's good for couples and small kids, but otherwise the GL pool is extraordinarily docile. Those opting for it love it though.

The resort was packed but handled the crowd exceptionally well. No problems with reservations, though lounge chair hunting was a bit of a hassle. What was really most interesting is that unlike Thanksgiving when we typically go, the place is dominated by Mexican nationals during Spring Break -- some of the most wonderful families we have met down there. Frankly, these are professionals and their families, and it was really interesting to find out about having careers as doctors, lawyers, etc. in Mexico. There were multitudes of teens and small kids, and aside from the difference in language (and the almost non-existence of obesity) it was just like Thanksgiving. What I truly appreciated the most was that given my paltry spanish, how many families would converse with us in english and make sure we were part of the conversation. That's quite a gesture when you really think about it as they are in their own country, with their own language at a resort at which they own. My 15 year old speaks broken spanish and the teens he was with always made sure to translate. My 17 year old speaks spanish well, and he loved talking spanish almost all week. One important cultural difference is that it is not unusual for native 16 year olds to be drinking beer openly, though I never saw any of the teens get drunk. Still, I had to explain that was not something we were willing to allow our boys to do. I'd just make sure to have that conversation in advance.

The resort looks amazing. Most of the large-scale construction has moved on to the outer reaches of the Luxxe buildings. The simple problem is that when you stay at the GL with teens that want activities, you have to take the shuttles to the Grand Mayan. The shuttles are clean as can be and come frequently. The drivers are wonderful, but the trek got extremely wearisome by day 2. It was about 20 minutes of a winding journey from Luxxe 1 to the GM. There is some evidence that the boat launches may one day operate, but no one could confirm if that was ever really going to happen and/or if it would shave time off that commute. In addition, no one could really explain what is going to happen with the GL recreational complex, which still has not opened. At full capacity at the resort, the GM recreational offerings were not overcrowded, so I'd be a bit concerned that if the resort duplicates those activities at the GL complex you'll have two mediocre recreational programs instead of the excellent one that exists today.
The shopping area has opened and the downstairs food court and shop are beautiful. Upstairs there is a clothing boutique, but it's prices are so inflated it's almost comical. For example, I broke my flip flops and needed a replacement pair. The cheapest they offered was about $55.00 USD. That stunned me, and when I asked if there was a pair between $20-30 they turned away. The employees at the boutique were the only negative experience I had at the resort, and unless you're desperate for that $250 Tommy Bahama shirt you know you can get for about $150 elsewhere, just go downstairs and enjoy the awesome creperie and chocolate shops.
The update really didn't give us much new information. However our sales rep Jeff V along with his supervisor Tony were exceptional. I learned more about the business aspects from them than any other sales team. They presented an excellent offer for the Spa Tower, but with college tuition bills on the horizon we had to refuse. It was painful for us to make that decision, but I am confident there will be another deal another day. But they were straight forward and ethical, and were a pleasure to deal with. Frankly, Randy K is also quite good. I haven't had the horrible experiences of which others have complained.
We are greatly looking forward to our return over Thanksgiving at the Grand Bliss. Ultimately, the GB strikes the right balance for us, as it is less formal than the GL and much, much closer to the GM activities areas.

All the staff are very helpful especially when we needed to change rooms due to noise from the considerable construction that was going on in Nov 2013, The update by Aggie York, was really interesting and she was very helpful in organizing the right people to talk to.sort out our problem. We will be going again and can definitely recommend it to others.

Sometimes, fantasy is what you want on vacation. A good book read while sunning on the beach is one way to enter a relaxing fantasy, but another is to get up from the beach and partake of this impressive resort. There are no cars, only electric golf buses and miles of elevated wooden walkways. Pedestrians and golf cars never meet except at hotel entrances. The grounds are vast, lush and immaculate. The resort has at least a dozen towers, but they are well spread out on the property so that one never feels crowded. In fact, there is always an available deck chair around any pool of your choice, and there are many, not to mention the beach, which is broad, deep and sandy. Wait staff on Segways are happy to fetch drinks, lunch, or towels, so you have no need to leave your beach chair or the shade of your umbrella (provided and wind-proof). Staff are always polite, courteous (even the ground keepers), and well attired. There is real professionalism here. This is not an all inclusive resort, but there is no need to leave. We found the room service to be exceptional: the food was delicious. In addition there is a market place that serves fresh meat, artisan breads, cheeses, decadent chocolates and cakes, and excellent wines and spirits of all kinds. A small grocer offers dairy products, snacks, and other less exotic staples. During our stay, we partook of the members update. Aggie York was wonderful. She answered all of our questions, timely if she did not have the answer on hand, and guided us professionally through the upgrade process that me elected to pursue. At no time did we feel that were being pressured into something that we did not want, on contrary, she was sure to point out that we were under no obligation and that her job was merely to be there for us. A cynic might claim that she had the ulterior motive of a sale, and of course, but it was always our decision: no pressure, no coercion, no intimidation, and always very helpful. If you read this Aggie, I want you to know how much we appreciated our time with you: Allan Reid and Dennis Baker.
