We spent a week with our college age kids enjoying the weather and water of Nuevo Vallarta. The Grand Mayan was top notch! The gigantic statues in the entry area set the tone for the grandiose hotel. The staff was polite, helpful and accommodating. The beach was very pretty, with wide sand and many chaises under palm umbrellas. The lazy river was very popular and long. The many connected pools were great as were the in- pool bars. Not so great were the weird happy hour/ limited discount drink times, 1-2? Almost all of the poolside chaises were "claimed" by 9AM by all of the people getting up early , laying towels down, and returning hours later.
The rooms were beautiful, very large, and nicely furnished. Beds a little too hard for my family. No dishwasher or DVD player. Nice tile-work in the bathrooms. We ate twice in the resort but favored the restaurants in the marina area nearby, Eddie's, Quixote's, La Laguna Tino, and Fajita Republic.
Getting around in cabs was cheap and easy. Zip line tour was great. Could have used more nightlife in the resort with less emphasis on time share sales. All in all, a nice week in Mexico.More
