“Wonderful vacation”
Reviewed 13 March 2009

My husband and I just returned from 2 weeks at the Mayan Sea Garden. It was wonderful! We checked in with Kristen and she was fast and efficient. We told her it was our first time in Mexico and asked if we could get a condo with an oceanfront view. We checked in on Friday, and check in dates are Friday, Saturday and Sunday which probably helped. She accomodated us and we were on the 2nd floor of the resort (the first floor does not have guest rooms). The 2nd floor has a washer, dryer, and ice machines. Our room had a perfect view of the pools, and ocean. The staff is very accomodating and extremely helpful. We had maid service every day and someone came in to turn down the bed every night and left Hershey's kisses on the bed. The room was spacious and very clean. We mostly ate at the resort or one of the Mayan restaurants. The food was good and reasonable. We did eat at Miguel's in Bucerias and The Blue Shrimp in Puerto Vallarta. Would recommend both. If you like shrimp, you have to try The Blue Shrimp. (Recommended by the staff at the Sea Garden). Transportation was easy and inexpensive, with the bus stop just around the corner from the Sea Garden. There was a bus called a trolley or train and is an open air vehicle which takes you to the Vallarta mall about 10 to 15 minutes away and it's free. We made all our phone calls back to Wisconsin from a kiosk in the mall for $.30 per minute. We took the bus into Puerto Vallarta for shopping and walking the Malecon. You can barter with the vendors, and generally buy items for about 1/2 price. If you go across the bridge in Puerto Vallarta, the flea market is cheaper than the stores on the Malecon. I even traded my small hand-held calculator with a vendor and got 50 pesos off a lace tablecloth. The calculator cost me $1.00 at Wal-mart. We went on a whale watching trip, snorkeling, and swimming with dolphines. All were fantastic. We saw 2 moms and baby whales. We were so impressed with the Sea Garden, we bought a membership and now can spend up to 4 weeks per year there. We own a timeshare in Florida, but the Sea Garden impressed us much more than our resort in Florida. Both staff and guest were more friendly, and there were activities to participate in from 9 in the morning till 4 and some nights, every day. The Rum-Ba restaurant has a fantastic breakfast buffet several days per week and room service was also fast and reasonable. We can't wait to go back!

I think only 25% of the units have an ocean view. None of the rooms have a balcony. Our unit overlooked the loading zone for the kitchens! We asked to be moved but were told they were full. The pool area and beach are nice and the weather was perfect. There were several restaurants nearby that were very nice. We were not impressed with the hotel restaurant.

We had a one bedroom condo. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchen utensils were adequate. The microwave worked but the timer didn't, so you had to be careful. A toaster oven would have been a big bonus.

We loved the location of this resort. We walked every day along the beach and it was excellent. We preferred the size of our resort and pool area to the Grand Mayan or Mayan. We could use the lazy river there as well as have access to their restaurants but it was nice to be staying at the Sea Garden. Good restaurants on the resort and also close by. We are not into the nightlife of clubs and bars so this location suited us very well.

A very relaxing holiday and we will return.

Nice place but the beds and pillows are very hard, bring an air mattress with you.

The pool is heated, very nice. They have a wonderful activities dept. Fun water aerobics and water volley ball etc..

The food in their 1 restaurant is very good with reasonable prices.
They have 4 hours of happy hour every day with 2 for 1 alcholic drinks.

The beach area is kept in pristine condition with a fenced kids area.

The location is great. The bus stop is about 2 minutes from the front door of the hotel.

Great place for seniors and families.

We stayed at the Mayan Palace 7 years ago and found it to be too big and impersonal. The pool was freezing, so we were reluctant to try the Sea Garden but I trusted the reviews and we are so glad we did. This resort is a perfect getaway if you want to leave the kids at home and have a nice relaxing time. The staff is good, the service at the poolside restaurant is poor but you shouldn't eat at the resort anyway. Have some chips and salsa and a corona but get away from the resort for meals. I would suggest the Nopal Beach restaurant or Guido right down the street. They are great.

Don't do Mike's fishing charter! Of course they tell you the fish are biting like mad but our entire boat caught 2. The captain was a grump who acted put off by gringo's and the performance they put on when one of the two were on the line was obvious they expected to catch nothing. Of course they expected a tip afterward. I would suggest doing Vallarta tours snorkling at Mallarta island. It was awesome, we saw hundreds of fish, dolphins and whales. I heard the zip line was a blast and we wish we had done that rather than the much overpriced fishing trip. They only brought like a dozen live bait! Never again will I try Mike's Fishing charter.

This is a small quaint resort, so don't expect a mega resort. As stated in other reviews the staff go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The pool is nice and warm and spotless and open long hours. We never had difficulty finding a lounge chair. We went with our 2 teenage boys and they had a fabulous time with the activities staff. Kept them so busy they didn't want to do anything else, which saved us money! The beach is beautiful. Bus and taxi transport very easy depending on your budget. convenience store just opened across the street-Oxxo-good prices. Some very good restaurants outside of the resort. We did not eat at the resort. we cooked lots of our meals in our room, but it is only a hot plate and hard to cook a full meal. The room was spacious and our maid, Blanca was very attentive. I will definitely come back here again. Loved the Sea Garden!!!!

We stayed at the Sea Garden over Thanksgiving. The place is clean; staff attentive and the pool and beach fabulous.

The pool bar is great. The entertainment staff kept people dancing and hopping. They ought to get double salaries. They work hard and have great personalities.

We went to the Buffet for Breakfast and the choices were great.
Wednesday evening they had an International Buffet that was spectacular: prime rib etc.

Two evenings we went: across the street to Guido's - excellent rack of lamb and good italian food; Frascati's up north - great food. WARNING: We went to the POLYNESIA EVENING SHOW. They charge 420-450 pesos. The line was long waiting for a table; the food was buffet-style and mediocre and the entertainment was high school variety show hula dancing. If they charged 200 pesos it might have been worth it. NOT!! There are so many great places to go in PV and our party of 6 DO NOT RECOMMEND THE POLYNESIA Party on the beach. Have your own party!
