“Steps to the beach - beautiful and quiet town, lovely apartment”
Reviewed 29 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

I went with a 5 girlfriends for my bachelorette party. We were a bit taken a back at first because we misunderstood the ad and thought we were renting the whole condo when really we were renting a two bedroom bottom floor apartment with no living room/couch. There was one cot, but nowhere for the 6th person to sleep. Jeff was accommodating and first offered us his upstairs pull-out couch, and eventually ended up bringing us down the cushions from his couch so that we could build an extra bed and all stay together. He knocked a bit off the rental price for our trouble and even brought us down some booze to supply the party.
We had a great time, and would definitely come back.

“Spectacular!”
Reviewed 22 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

This was a great experience. The house suited our needs very well and the location was spectacular as it was about 200 steps to the water! The view was pure heaven from the roof as well as from the master bedroom, kitchen and dining room. The owner Jeff was always available to answer any questions that we had as was Jose one of his assistants. I cant say enough about his other assistant Anna who found us (as we got lost) and escorted us to the house. The area is very quiet, but that is exactly what we were looking for so that made us happy. You definitely need a car or an ATV but luckily Jeff had both of those available for us to rent as well! Thanks for everything Jeff!

“Great beach location and value in East Cape at Buena Vista”

Stayed in the 2 bedroom lower guest unit with two couples the end of March. Enjoyed the courtyard with fountain everyday as it stays cool and is little oasis between other activities. Beds were comfortable and we managed with one bath shared between couples. We did use the outside shower as well. The unit is located a one minute walk from the nicest beach in the area and is five minutes away from Buena Vista resort where we ate breakfasts and used the hot tub and pool with no issues. Jeff, the owner, is very helpful and friendly. He knows the area and will help you find best restaurants and activities. A stove and medium size fridge are in the unit, but we did not cook. A car is definitely needed to get back and forth to town and activities. This is a nice unit if you are looking for more private accommodations with great beach access at off beach rates.

“Great Stay”
Reviewed 16 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Came down for a week with my mom, we had an awesome time exploring all around the lower Baja. This was a great place to base yourself out of, the beach out front was quiet and nice, Jeff was helpful and easy going. We had the two bedroom, the inside is nothing special but it was more than adequate for us, we where not there to sit around inside. Town is a quick drive away with lots of dining options, we found joes deli mart was the best place to buy good quality stuff, awesome burritos! The store next door to joes had by far the produce in town, the grocery stores produce was not good at all. All in all we thought Jeff's place was very good value for the price he charges.

“Excellent base to explore the lower baja”

To begin with, if you intend to travel around the area, rent a vehicle. Although I was a little apprehensive of driving in Mexico due to some weird things like right hand lanes to turn left, it was actually very easy and comfortable to drive throughout the area. There is little traffic in this vast area and the max. speed limit in most places is 80 km/h (there are free range cattle, goats, etc... roaming along roadways). I rented a large Ford 4X4 for our group from BBB car rentals, about 1 minute away from the Los Cabos airport. I give them 5 stars too for their excellent service and vehicle, and would highly recommend them (refer to my review of them).

The owner of this property, Jeff, was excellent to deal with. He always responded to my emails and telephone messages very quickly. Leading up to our stay, he graciously answered any questions I had about the house, local area, attractions, etc.... While staying in Los Barriles, Jeff was present locally and offered to assist should anything go awry. Thankfully, nothing did. Jeff is a very friendly guy. He went out of his way to make us comfortable and even picked up a couple new sets of snorkeling gear for us. Thanks Jeff!!

Jeff's place overlooks the beach. There is a small house in between, but it is hardly noticeable. The views of the beach and Sea of Cortez from the roof top patio, kitchen / dining area, and the king bedroom are great. We rented the entire house for 8 of us (4 adults / 4 kids: 14, 10, 10 and 7) and shared the upstairs kitchen area. The house is 2 separate structures with a walkway bridging the kitchen / TV / dining area with the upstairs king bedroom, which has a very spacious attached bath. The king bedroom has a small patio overlooking the sea. There is hardly ever any noise other than the sea. Jeff has a couple satellite dishes that provide hundreds of TV channels so you never have to miss a game. There is a TV in the king bedroom as well. Wifi is available. The whole house is extremely comfortable.

The lower portion of the structures include a large garage underneath the Kitchen / TV area and two bedrooms with a bathroom and small kitchenette under the king bed / bath. Both lower bedrooms have double beds. Jeff had a couple cots available for the kids, to which there were no complaints. The downstairs area is roomy and comfortable.

The area where Jeff's place is located is a small resort area a couple miles from Los Barriles. The drive to and from town is of little inconvenience. It's a short, relaxing drive along the coast. Los Barriles is an awesome little town to wander around for 1/2 - 1 day. The town is small, but some very good restaurants and food vendors to choose from. Even though you have a kitchen at Jeff's, you'll want to keep going to town to eat. Lighthouse PIzza also delivers to Jeff's place free of charge. Good local pizza, check it out. There is a local supermarket and numerous small stores, so you don't have to hit Walmart or the Mega before leaving Los Cabos.

On a couple occasions, locals came by Jeff's place selling food. Once cupcakes and another tamales / empanadas. We bought the tamales at about 9:00 am as we were leaving for the day. They were still piping hot from having just been made. I think we only paid about $1.50 each. We heated them up for dinner that night. I never had a cupcake, but the tamales were fantastic. If locals offer to sell you food out of their vehicle, buy it! It's some of the best local food you'll find.

From Jeff's place, we traveled to La Paz / Balandra Beach on a day excursion. The drive through the mountains was incredible. Not exactly our Rockies, but amazing scenery no less. Get an early start and give yourself about 1.5 to 2 hours to the beach. It is well worth the drive. The sand is like flour. You can walk out into the bay hundreds of meters and the crystal clear water hardly reaches your waist. Very amazing. Take your own refreshments and food though. I agree with other reviewers that you don't want to drive back at night if you can avoid it, but it's not as bad as some of the reviewers describe it. We got about halfway by dusk. We did the last half hour in the dark with no problems as it was mainly straight roads at that point. Exercise caution and do the speed limit and you'll be fine.

Be sure to travel to Santiago to visit the local hot springs and Fox Canyon (Canyon de la Zorra / Emerald Falls / etc...). I think this was the highlight of the entire holiday for all of us. Save yourself $100 bucks a person and Google Earth the maps to get you there. It was so easy, particularly Fox Canyon which has many signs directing you where to go. This is a much easier drive than the hot springs. We went to the Santa Rita hot springs near San Jorge. You will be traveling on rough, dirt, often single lane roads so leave the sports car back at the resort. I suggest splitting your day up with lunch back in Santiago. Taqueria La Cascada is at the end of the straight stretch after you turn right immediately upon entering Santiago from the boulevard. It's along your way to the canyon. Go toward the end of the pavement and it will be on the right. We didn't speak Spanish and no one at the restaurant spoke English so we ordered randomly. Best stuffed potato I've ever eaten!! It really was incredibly delicious. My wife's super burrito was among the best I have tasted too. The kids recognized "hot cakes", so all 4 played the safety. I had a bite of my son's hot cakes, even they were incredible. Based on the patrons, it's obvious this is where the locals come to eat: for very good reason. An extremely kind and friendly family run business. Don't worry about lacking Spanish. Whatever you order it will be delicious. Another highlight of the trip.

All in all, Jeff's place was perfectly situated for our baja adventure. We only had 4 days, but it was an incredible, easy adventure with no time wasted. Whether you are just looking to unplug and hide away for some R&R or seeking a base of exploration like we were, Jeff's place and Los Barriles are great places to start.
