The chairmakers is definitely an above average pub! I have been a few times now, and although the food is a bit pricey for what you get, it is still tasty. There are some nicer places to sit in the pub, especially the comfy seats by the fire compared to some shabbier side rooms!

Overall what makes this pub good is the cracking quiz it does on a Monday night, where the host is a hilarious and most teams get a prize.

We had yet another great meal at The Chaimakers with our friends. Our steaks were succulent & melt in the mouth tender, the fish & chips tasty & the beef burger was too much for my friends wife to finish. Wash that down with one, or more to be honest, pints of the best kept London Pride in the area and you have a great way to spend a Saturday evening. The service was excellent & a local taxi company, Southwick Private Hire Taxis gave us a friendly, inexpensive return journey. We will be returning.

We popped out on Bank Holiday Monday for our usual sandwich and ended up at the Chairmakers where we hadn't been for some time. Just a coffee and a sandwich and a beer. We were told they didn't do sandwiches on Sundays as they couldn't obtain fresh bread and Bank Holidays were just like Sundays. Made me wonder about all that bread that is made into sandwiches on Sundays. It was a lovely day and very pleasant on the terrace so we decided to have the Sunday Roast. The beef was so tender and nicely pink and really tasted of beef. Superb Yorkshires and roast potatoes that didn't look as though they'd been par boiled and chucked in a deep fat fryer, so common these days. The veg was properly cooked, neither almost raw nor boiled to death. There wasn't the selection you might find in a bigger carvery but that cannot be expected in an establishment that also serves a wide range of bar meals, some of which looked very interesting as they went past. Staff were cheerful and busy. Lovely lunch especially as the weather was good. It's a bit out of the way but worth it, we think.

This pub used to have an excellent reputation but very disappointed when we stopped there today for lunch.
Lovely looking pub and good range of beers but lunch menu restricted to just sandwiches. Saw the salad bar and carvery but very average looking food.
Moved onto another local pub which was a hundred times better - such a shame.

My wife and I attended the same wedding reception as Hiker10042 and Elanor123456789. As we spent the overwhelming majority of the time in the marquee we cannot possibly comment on their experiences in the reviews they both posted. We left the reception around 3.30pm; presumably the 'contretemps' occurred after we had departed.
From our perspective we had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon in good company. The food - a running cold buffet of beef, pork, salad, side dishes and accompaniments - was of very good quality. Portions were plentiful and the serving dishes replenished on a regular basis. The layout and presentation of the tables was pleasing to the eye showing good attention to detail. The serving staff (both in the bar and the marquee) were polite and courteous at all times.
