“Nice location”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

The fact that this pub has a rear garden down to the river is it's big attraction, and on a summer's day this is a big draw. The food is good but not outstanding, and the portions are a little bit disappointing.
The staff are helpful and warn you of any long waiting time.
I would go there again if in the area, although there is some stiff competition when the weather is not suitable for sitting outside.

“Not impressed”
Reviewed 10 July 2014 via mobile

I visited the globe for the first time and the pub is very quaint and setting lovely. The bar stocks some nice local real ales but I found the service on the bar quite sterile, a smile or two would not go a miss. I ate in the restaurant which is quite small, the service in here was much better with the waiter being efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered the fishcake starter (£6) and the lobster linguine for main (£15). You get given free bread and butter when you order which would be a nice gesture but the bread is clearly the frozen part baked variety and not good. If you are going to do something do it well even if it is free. My fishcake starter would have been really nice but they had drizzled balsamic reduction all over it in the name of being artistic but it completely overpowered the fishcake so you could not taste it. Come on chef let your ingredients show off for you. The lobster linguine was a real let down I received a huge bowl of bland boring linguine, I think the chef had shown it the pesto then forgot to add it. The lobster was very sparce to the point it was a job to search for it in my mountain of pasta. Done well I would have really enjoyed this dish and it would have justified the price tag but unfortunately not what I was dished up.
I think I would return to the globe for a beer and to take in the view but I do not think I would return to eat, which is a shame.

“88th Birthday Celebration”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

We chose this location to celebrate my father's 88th birthday (last time he came here was around 1944). This is a very welcoming venue, well decorated and brought up to date but keeping the quirky character it so deserves.
The staff are brilliant, really made the day very special, not only with the extra touches but by being so patient with a group of 14 to cater for including 4 under 5s. Especially helpful to in catering for food allergies.
A wide variety of food available from two menus and specials board, two 4 £10 menu really great value.
Food brilliantly cooked and presented well.
Recommend booking in advance and don't hesitate to discuss food allergy requirements.
A massive thanks to all the staff, certainly be revisiting.
