Out with the family and 2 dogs on a five mile walk, we stumbled across this place, very much in need of a refreshing drink to keep us going. The menu looked good so a quick stop turned into lunch as well. I cannot recommend this more highly for quality and value for money. With fresh lobster on the menu as well I will hopefully be back before we return home. Mark was very friendly to add to the charm of this excellent find

Booked ahead and had a lovely meal here on our first night staying in this beautiful county. Attractive pub both inside and out, good selection of food available especially if you like fish/seafood. Lovely staff. Happy to recommend.

Food is perfect more than perfect they really know what to do with seafood cooked to perfection went with a very fussy daughter this time she had sirloin steak with scallops . I had the lobster and scallops to start they leave the roes on just what you should do . Steak was perfectly cooked
Cannot fault them went there many times with my New Zealand born husband who knew about cooking especially fish and he just loved it.
Daughter said it was a breath of fresh air to have a lovely pub that served great food in a unpretentious surrounding.
Lovely service will be back

This small pub was packed. Reservations are clearly essential.

I had smoked haddock chowder (very good), followed by mussels in red wine (excellent), washed down with a pint of Otter Bitter.

Everyone enjoyed their meal. I recommend The Anchor.

What a wonderful suprise, after a walk out at portland we decided to find a pub on the way home for a couple of drinks, after working in hospitality for 20 years and running my own village pub for 16 years I am often saddened when I go to pubs now....not the case here greeted by smiling staff, perfectly poured drinks, well behaved dogs made welcome, a bustling restaurant and a bar full of locals that made us welcome and clearly a village hub, can't wait to go back and eat as all the diners were telling us about the wonderful food, the atmosphere is just spot on, pubs like this are so rare now this landlord should be proud your pub and team are gems not often found anymore
