Owner description: OPENING TIMESTuesday – Friday 10.30am – 4pmSaturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays 10.30am – 4pm (4.30 BST)The Centre is housed in a converted stone building situated behind the bus terminal in the centre of New Mills, nearby is the central railway station (Manchester to Sheffield line) and ¾ of a mile away is Newtown railway station (Manchester to Buxton line). In the centre we have the museum which tells the story of New Mills, there is an amazing model of New Mills showing the mills and the construction of the bridges near the end of the 19th century. There is also a direct link to Torrs Hydro showing current power statistics and other information about the countries first community owned and managed Hydro scheme. We have a small shop which sells New Mills gifts, local guides & maps, travel information publications, local history publications, cards, postcards and much more. We also sell hot & cold drinks and a selection of snacks which can be enjoyed in our café, where we regularly display artwork from local artists, or outside in the courtyard. The centre is fully accessible to the disabled and we have toilet and baby changing facilities. Dogs are welcome.A viewing platform gives a spectacular view over ‘The Torrs’, a dramatic gorge below the Town, and the Millennium Walkway. The Torrs ‘the park under the town’ provides access to an area of natural beauty which includes mills and the ruined foundations of mills and weirs lying in the bottom of the gorges which were attracted to the site at the end of the 18th century by the water power potential. The Torrs path links with the Sett Valley Trail along the old railway track to Hayfield and the Goyt Way, a long distance route linking the Manchester conurbation with the Goyt Valley and the Peak District National Park

Loved the Heritage Centre. So much information and there is even a tunnel for children (and adventurous adults) to go through. Also a lovely tea room and shop. Would recommend for people of all ages interested in the heritage of the area.
