“Absolutely fantastic!!!!”
Reviewed 9 July 2008

I stayed at this "luxury B & B" en route to a conference. Only stayed the one night but I would recommend it to anyone. It was better than most 4* hotels! The only thing it didn't have that a hotel would was a bar, evening meals, early morning calls or newspapers delivered and no doubt if I had requested the last two Kim and John would have accommodated me! There is a country pub 100 yards away that does meals but I did not try one as I was away on my own.

I booked a twin room for sole occupancy and it was a lovely room with a big bathroom with separate bath and shower cubicle. It overlooked the garden and the owner's open countryside land beyond. A bathrobe and slippers were provided and there were even chocolates on the pillows! Tea, coffee, bottled water, biscuits etc were provided. There was a hairdryer and a flat screen tv.

Check out their website - they have a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and a games room with a full size snooker table, a reading room and a lounge area with tv.
Kim and John made me feel extremely welcome and are really genuine lovely people.

When looking for somewhere to stay I was going to try a Travelodge at a cost of £39 with no breakfast. Instead I found this lovely property for £55 with a full breakfast to rival any hotel.

You will not be disappointed if you book to stay here.

Clean location and very friendly owners. We would recommend staying here if in the area. We arrived early and John was't there but came back quickly to let us check in. We appreciated his flexibility.
All round good experience.

Having read the review on here and the owners website, we decided that this B&B ticked all the boxes for us - and we weren't disappointed.

We had a very warm and helpful welcome which included a tour and potted history of this new B&B (opened Easter 2007). The owners are a lovely and very friendly couple.

The property was originally the family home and has been completely refitted as a B&B. The bedrooms are spotless and very tasteful and contempoary. The bathrooms gorgeous (we had a lovely deep bath!)

Our particular room was a really good size and had flat screen TV and a sofa (double sofabed). There was also ample space for our 3 year old to have a small guest bed which she was very comfortable in. An added touch was fluffy bathrobes and slippers!

Breakfast was selected the night before - a great idea as it meant no waiting around and the food was excellent and a wide choice.

There are two areas for guests to reax in; a large lounge with TV and snooker table and a smaller quiet lounge area. Both in the main house and close to the bedrooms which was perfect as we were able to put our little one to bed and go downstairs to relax - just as we would at home!

Our only disappointment was that we didn't have time to use the swimming pool, sauna or gym.

There are some lovely places to visit in the locality and a pub at the end of the drive (we didn't go there though so can't comment). Our trip had been to visit Chatsworth and it was an easy 20 min drive away.

All in all a great place to stay and highly recommended.

  • Liked — Clean, pleasant and great amenities
  • Disliked — Water pressure in the shower wasn't too good!

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Whitton Lodge which is described as a luxury bed and breakfast and frankly, that description is spot on! We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived but it was the facilities which we were most impressed with.

Our room was absolutely immaculate with brand new fittings, on-suite and flat screen tv and was very close to the lounge area and other facilities. The extra facilities were what impressed us most as you don't expect to find a swimming pool at the usual English bed and breakfast! Let alone a full-size snooker table, sauna and gym too! they also have stables on site but that's not something we needed to make use of.

The only slight criticism would be that there is currently some building work being done on the site but I think that is because they are expanding, so can't really criticise them for that.

Overall, a really special place and full of surprises - we'd definitely go back!

  • Liked — Leisure facilities (swimming pool, sauna, snooker table)
  • Disliked — Very quiet location (not necessarily a bad thing...)
