Wow what a find. Amazing food options cooked to perfection, great value house wine, perfect service and a 5* venue.

I'm still in shock at this find and will be returning soon with friends to share this.

Interesting issue this one. Went again last night to the Miners' Arms and, like the last reviewer, we had a faultless meal with excellent service. We eat out a great deal in restaurants of all types and price brackets, and think that the Miners, as a country pub serving home cooked food is the best of its type, not only in Derbyshire, but in the country. It is the Restaurant to which we have been returning, time and time again, for many years, for all sorts of occasions. Last night the garlic mushroom starter served with really fresh salad and The Miners' secret recipe toast, was absolutely delicious. The avocados were slightly overshadowed by the strength of the Stilton in my husband's starter but it was, nevertheless, also delicious. The fish (sea bass and trout) were cooked to perfection; the shortcrust pastry lamb and apricot pie and chicken breast with chorizo/mozzarella were both excellent and the usual range of superb vegetables beautifully cooked (broccoli, cauliflower, marrow, beans, carrots) completed the main courses. All four of us had the superb treacle and almond tart which is unadventurous, I know, but we have unsuccessfully tried to recreate it at home and cannot match Yvonne Guest's speciality. Andrew and Yvonne have updated the interior about a year ago. Everything is really high quality but unflamboyant and makes for a lovely atmosphere, especially when, last night, with nights drawing in, soft lighting, the cherry tree outside, lovely surroundings, we had such a lovely dining experience.
So, the issue of child friendly raised by the last but one reviewer. My daughter was first taken to the Miners Arms when she was three, and continued, probably three times a year, even having her 21st family meal there. We always felt completely at home with children at The Miners. In fact when the Guests' two sons were growing up, there would always be pictures drawn by them etc., on display. There is not a children's play ground thank goodness. This would be totally inappropriate in such a setting and with such a clientele as the Miners'. Similarly, it does not have the interior to allow children to wander or run about during the meal. But I have always felt that children should never be allowed to do this partly because they should sit at the table, but also for safety when dishes are brought out and also out of respect to other diners. Finally, there is not, thank goodness, a special children's menu. Any children that we have taken, eat the same food as adults, and love the range, variety and quality of the Miners' food. It was never necessary, but we could have asked for smaller portions for either the children or very elderly relatives.

Went again to the Miners Arms last week for our anniversary, and it was as perfect as ever. My family have been going for the last 20 years and we've never had a bad meal or bad experience yet. The food is always superb and very reasonably priced. There is always a mixture of traditional and more adventurous dishes, they always come piping hot and are packed with flavour and come with a plate of seasonal veg, chips and boiled and roast potatoes. Desserts come with cream, ice cream or custard...or all three!! The menu varies according to what's in season, which is how a good restaurant should operate, there's always a varied choice of meals, usually over 6 starters, 12 mains and 12 desserts with vegetarian dishes too. There is more than ample food (and we are good eaters!) and sometimes we struggle to fit 3 courses in! Service is warm and friendly, the proprietors are very accommodating whatever your request. We regularly take our children and have done since they were toddlers (they're now 6 and 9) and they're always spoilt for choice and can't decide what to order! Child's portions are not a problem, but you won't find processed junk food like burgers, pizza and nuggets if that's all your kids are willing to eat!! Have already booked again!
