“Perfect bolt-hole for two”
Reviewed 6 September 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We came to Ashover in order to meet friends who live in the village and The Retreat was a perfect base for us for 3 nights. We had a long and difficult journey from south coast but immediately felt at home, warmly welcomed by Ian and Elaine, and delighted with the provisions to make a much needed cup of tea and to snack on a slice of bread and butter. The village is very pretty and the pubs are great, particularly The Poets' Corner. We bought a few provisions from the local village store, the ladies there are very friendly. We had time for a quick trip to Matlock and Chatsworth House, but there's plenty more to explore. We definitely intend to return.

“Excellent retreat”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Fabulous cottage and area. Everything you could hope for when you need to get away from the crowd. Made very welcome by Ian and Elaine and would hope to return again. Would definately recommend the cottage and area to friends and family.

“Beautiful cottage”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed for a couple of nights at the retreat. The cottage is beautifully done and spotlessly clean. Elaine and her husband were really welcoming and accommodating even letting is have their bacon because we were too late for the shop. The village is very pretty, the nearest pub is 2 minutes walk and the good we had was great value. I would highly recommend staying here.

“Peaceful retreat”
Reviewed 16 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This was a peaceful week away from the hustle and bustle of city life. So much to do locally that I could have stayed longer. The cottage was delightful, clean, not really designed for proper cooking, but with 4 nearby pubs serving good (plentiful) food there was no need to cook. A small but perfectly formed cottage, An ideal break.

“Beautiful cottage in the Peak District”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

This is a lovely little cottage in the centre of the pretty village of Ashover. The owners live next door and are helpful and welcoming. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped - there was nothing we were lacking. The view from the back is postcard perfect! We didn't want to leave and would highly recommend it!
