We first stumbled across this place on our last trip to IOW a few years ago and it was great, just been back again and again it was no dissapointment.

There is a fantastic menu, all local produce and well cooked. It's very friendly for family's with plenty of high chairs and and outside play area for both toddlers and bigger kids.

Would recommend booking as this place is always busy, sign of a good place!

Fighting Cocks will be top of our list for a visit on our next visit to the island.

An extremely busy pub, with excellent facilities.
Food is prepared quickly, and they strive to alter things where necessary for dietary requirements. Always happy to find info about the food too. All locally sourced from local farms etc.
Best pub we went to when in IOW for a week. We returned two days later after our first visit as we enjoyed it so much. Home cooked food in a relaxed environment... Very different to the chain pub food you get in mainland UK and such a welcome break.
Make sure you book in advance as it is so popular and busy. We got the last table for two on a weds eve at 6.45pm. A fortunate find! So when we went back on Friday we were happy to have booked in order to secure a table for our last night on the island.
Large garden for children too... Lots of families enjoying a relaxed night. We will definitely be back next time we visit IOW.

The first pub I have found with tables in the play area, what a fantastic idea no more stress while you wait for you food as the kids were fully entertained plus the food was absolutely first class. The most stress free meal i've had since having children. Thank you can highly recommend and will definately be back next year (weather permitting!).

This is a pub with a history and there are plenty of old photographs to prove it. Around the bar area is a stone floor and during the winter there's a welcoming fire. Meals are available at any table as well as in the carpeted conservatory which basks in the setting sun. Look out for Ben and Ann-Marie who will great you with a broad welcoming smile. The menu is one of the most comprehensive I've ever found in a pub and the specials board behind the bar provides details of more mouth-watering meals (e.g. Whole Plaice with an island garlic and parsley butter sauce - cooked to perfection). The pub has a wide reputation and even on a Monday night the conservatory only had one empty table. During high season I would suggest making a reservation. Always remember - if a pub is popular with the locals then it must be good. Waiting time during a busy period from ordering at the bar to plates on the table was 17 minutes which allows time for a relaxing drink. The staff are very welcoming, the food is hot, well-presented and well-cooked and San Miguel is available on draught!

Dropped in here one teatime while on a recent holiday as it was a short drive from Shanklin, where we were staying. You can't miss it, on the main road from Lake to Newport. There is a huge car park and the staff are welcoming. The menu offered a very good choice of food. I had Fisherman's Pie and the good lady had Beef Stir Fry. Both dishes were excellent. The pie came with salad and bread & butter. The stir fry was the pick of the two. She switched the traditional rice for chips, but the dish still came with prawn crackers. There must have been twenty or more pieces of beef in a rich thick tasty sauce. There is a large outside terrace and two playareas for the kids, one for up to fives and the other for older kids. The latter is a huge... well, field really and contained dining tables as well as various things for the kids to play on and plenty of space to run around in. The pub was popular and was beginning to fill up with diners as we left on the early Tuesday evening.
If you visit, read the framed story on the pub wall of the German airman who crash landed nearby during WWII. Amusing.
