“My Annual treat!”

Why do I love Casa Joya so much ? If you are looking for a 5 star, clinical, cold, business style hotel, then Casa Joya is not for you. It is a haven of peace. The silence so dense you can hear the ants chattering. The perfume of the roses transports you back to your grandmothers garden. The wonderful eclectic decorations and furnishing make every room a treaure hunt. Mary's huge smile and welcome makes your heart sing, and Jame's devotion to sourcing and preparing the most exquisite food makes you salivate just thinking about it. My "Happy Place"

I used Casa Joya as my base when house hunting around Velez Rubio. As I was driving there I cursed myself for booking somewhere out in the country, but my first mouthful of food made all my concerns vanish!
If you like food you will like this place. The only problem I had was making a choice from the menu, the Chef (and he has genuinely earned that epithet!) clearly loves cooking and the food is alive with flavour. He can do subtle too!
The room and decor generally was a little idiosyncratic and if you like everything white, crips and subtle shades of beige and grey then perhaps this is not for you. But it was clean, comfortable and roomy and there even was wi-fi by satellite.
It proved a great place to visit from and I will be going back.

Room Tip: I stayed in the old part of the house, the room was hippy Marrakech themed with its own little sitti...

Thank you, James and Mary. We had a delightful stay and are impressed with your dedication and love of Casa Joya. To anyone considering a stay, this is a real gem. Be aware that finding it can be a challenge, and we are providing some instructions at the bottom of this review. Don’t let the location dissuade anyone from heading here – it is part of the appeal. Casa Joya is located about 20km off one of the highways between Granada and Valencia. It is an almond farm with villa that has been converted into a B&B and gourmet restaurant, with wonderful success.

We had an upstairs apartment with a large balcony that overlooks the valley, almond orchards, and a small pool with a patio. After a warm welcome and tour, we were asked about our wishes for meals and accommodations. They operate on the basis of their bookings so that fresh foods are obtained from a local market when they are needed. James is a retired professional chef from England whose 20 years of experience and enthusiasm clearly show through in the quality of the meals. He had some suggestions and we elected for dishes of steamed and grilled vegetables and a plate of seafood including a perfectly prepared sea bass. The meal was delicious in every way and was enjoyed at a window table with a view of the valley. James and Mary work well as a team and their attention to detail is impressive. Their smiles were infectious and we felt welcomed and comfortable at every moment. Breakfast included fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, and great coffee – beautifully presented at the time we requested.

Casa Joya’s size and relatively remote location require the use of cash for payment. We were short of Euros but accommodations were easily made for the difference. Again, thanks for your understanding.

This is one of the best B&B’s we’ve encountered in our many visits to Europe (Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and France). Plan ahead on the directions, the payment, and the date, and you’ll have a wonderful stay. It is well worth the side trip off the highway, as described next.

Directions: Take the A92 from the small town of Velez-Rubio heading east towards Puerto Lumbreras. Take the next exit, 116 and head south on A327. Follow the kilometer signs and travel for exactly 12 km, where there will be a sign on the left of the road pointing to Casa Joya. Head down that road, watching for a few small “CJ” signs along the way for reassurance you are on the correct road. It is a relatively short distance to the B&B and you can clearly see it as you approach down the mountain. Numerical GPS coordinates also work: Lat 37.56513 and Long -1.99793. Please note that the rating for location is less than maximum due not to the actual location (it was great), but rather to what some would consider "too remote" for their liking. The location is great for views, relaxation, and quiet.

It was a joy to arrive and have James come out and greet us with “You must be Robert! Welcome.” Thanks again for such a delightful experience.

We're invited here to a friends birthday party last year, what a warm welcome and beautiful place it is. We have made a few trips back since with friends and just my husband and myself.
Mary and James have made us so welcome.
We've stayed over night a few times now the rooms are well laid out and the beds you just don't want to get out of, the views from each room is breath taking think we've stayed in most since finding this hideaway,(yes have been back a few times now)
Think you'd be hard pushed to find a more sedate and welcoming place and the food is to die for.
Love it,love it,love it.

Yet again a fabulous lunch.
Mine hosts James and Mary always pull out all the stops. The best food in Almeria well worth the journey but why not stay the night. Quirky rooms, reasonably priced with a fantastic breakfast. Love it.

Room Tip: All rooms good.

This restaurant and inn is located far off the beaten track - but take time to seek it out if you are near. My sister and brother-in-law have raved about this restaurant for years and finally I had a chance to sample it last summer.
We went as a party of five for lunch. The bar area is cool and comfortably furnished; and the drinks generous!
The menu is shortish - which I think is a good sign that everything is freshly cooked for you.
The dining room is small and intimate with great views over the countryside.
The food was excellent - cleverly created and well cooked.
Wine was good.
Service was friendly and measured - never rushing you.
We chose to have coffee on the shaded patio by the swimming pool.
Overall the meal was superb and well worth the time taken to get there.
Thoroughly recommended and I look forward to my next visit.

We spent one night at Casa Joya including dinner/bed and breakfast. What can I say .... James and Mary are exceptionally warm hosts, and we felt very welcome from the moment we stepped inside the door. The location is unbeatable if you're looking for a beautiful, quiet and perfectly unspoilt part of Andalusia. The accommodation is charming, combining both rustic and ethnic flavours. Our room was delightful, very spacious and immaculately clean with a huge comfortable bed. The night time views were equally as awesome as the day. Pitch black, with a sky absolutely full of stars ..... no light pollution here!
If you decide to visit, you just must sample the food. It's absolutely superb, and we've eaten at very expensive London Bistros which would struggle to meet the high standard of fare offered here. All in all, this is a fabulous gem tucked away in the stunning Andalusian countryside, and we will definitely return.
