The menu is this Fuller's pub should be more than ample for most people and is further extended by daily specials. Food is very well prepared, tasty and well presented. A gastropub, without the pretensions and gastropub prices!
Recommended.

We booked a table for 7 people at the end of June to celebrate my birthday and were told they only had one available on the covered terrace. It was a cool evening unfortunately with intermittent showers and we were surprised to see that to get to the terrace you had to go out of the pub and across the garden, as did the food when it came from the kitchen! Another disappointment was that there was a large TV in the terrace showing World Cup football which we had not been informed about when booking. Our table was made up from 1 square table and 1 round table pushed together which made for disjointed seating so we removed the square one and huddled around the other one. Even though there were halogen heaters on the wall that came on for a set time once pushing the switch, it was rather chilly as the side of the terrace was exposed to the elements.

I ordered the Newchurch Pie which sounded lovely on the menu however the pastry was far too thick and overshadowed the filling! My partner had the belly pork and this came out burnt on top and very rubbery, although another member of our party ordered these and his was cooked much better. Only 1 of the group ordered dessert - the pavlova, and it did look delicious (2 shared it as it was so big) and was enjoyed by them. The rest of our group enjoyed their meals so it was disappointing that we didn't. The pub dining area has been refurbished since the previous time I dined here and it is a shame we could not get a table inside which may have improved the overall atmosphere of the evening. We will return when we can dine inside to try the food again, avoiding the pie!

One other comment regarding the bar; it can be difficult to get to the bar to order drinks because of, presumably the regulars (including a dog), sitting on bar stools. It would be useful if they kept an area of the bar free for other customers to easily access the bar. There is a fairly large car park but again this does get full so get there early!

Me and my boyfriend had had a busy day shopping around Shanklin and were staying in Newchurch so caught the last open top bus into the village and stopped for dinner at the Pointer Inn.

We were both seated to an outdoor table on quite a pretty veranda by a woman called Rachel who seemed the only pleasant member of staff there. Other staff members need their customer service scrubbing a lot.

The prices were high and the menu not very well laid out, so it was quite confusing. There was also not much variety. I had lasagne for what seemed like the 100th time during my stay. It was nice food, but because the price of the main meal was so high, we couldn't afford dessert. It's a local business and prices are bound to be a little higher than average, but £25 for two meals which were not at a high standard, we left feeling hungry and as if we'd wasted our money.

I work as a barista and I know how to be courteous and helpful and cheerful to ALL customers. ALL CUSTOMERS. We felt upset that most staff members who we saw spoke to the locals and seemed very friendly and chatty towards them, yet when addressing us didn't seem to be as friendly and just hardly said anything, a smile would have been nice.

Our party of six was very impressed at the service we received, we all ordered different meals and every one was excellent, the portions were generous and very reasonably priced. this is the second time we have dined there and it will be the first place we head to when we revisit the island.Congratulations to the owners.
