Thank you for your kind review Gavin. It makes us all so happy that you and your family enjoyed your time on the farm, we all work really hard to try and make our guests feel as welcome and happy as possible. Rushcroft has been home to my children and I for nearly 20 years now and we absolutely love it here. So sharing it with like minded people who can appreciate the tranquil natural beauty of the place and the surrounding countryside is an absolute pleasure.
We hope to welcome you back again soon.
I am in awe of what Lynn has achieved single-handedly over the past ten years. She is SuperWoman - a really able, capable, charming, friendly, talented person of extraordinary energy and courage. I run a luxury B&B comprising two rooms in remotest Dartmoor, and I find that hard enough to run on my own, juggling children and horses. Over the past decade, Lynn, whom I'd never met before, has created a wonderful New Forest oasis for so many to enjoy.
Her website does not do justice to the quality of the Rushcroft experience, nor does it make it clear what to expect.
There are three self-catering cottages; Rushcroft Lodge (where my daughter and I stayed) sleeps 2-3 in spacious luxury; and the other two sleep 4. All offer exceptional value for money. Lynn has a wonderful eye, and the light, space, airiness and decor of each, and their individual little gardens are absolutely first class. She has thought of every detail. There is also a beautiful colourful Gypsy Caravan in the most romantic secluded corner of one of the meadows.
Rushcroft, unusually, provides outstanding accommodation for up to four horses, in large, comfortable, clean and tidy stables, and vast pastures with automatic water provided, and grass, even in the hottest temperatures, negating the need to poo-pick or feed hay. The whole atmosphere is extremely calm, laissez-faire and relaxed, unlike too many equine establishments. There is also a beautiful outside menage with an assortment of jumps that you can use at any time, as Lynn only keeps two horses.
The campsite, which is separate from the cottages, is calm and peaceful, and has 40 sites.
Altogether the Farm covers about twenty acres, hidden away in a little corner of the New Forest, minutes from some of the best riding, walking and cycling that the Forest has to offer.
I feel any negative comments on this website say more about the reviewer than anything else. Perhaps these people would have been happier to find themselves in a big public noisy mass-market campsite, rather than the one-off personal, private seclusion for discerning holiday makers offered by Lynn and her team at Rushcroft.
Thank you so very much Mary for your kind and considered review. It really does make an enormous difference to get such positive feed back, not only to me but the whole Rushcroft Team who work tirelessly to provide our guests with a lovely calm, clean, natural farm environment in which to relax and enjoy the beautiful New Forest area.
We all hope to see you again very soon.
The plus points are location, as there are lovely walks straight from the campsite to the forest and a great dog walk along site the site, there is also a super local shop with extended opening hours and along the street from the shop is a lovely butchers with lovely tasting meats and ready prepared BBQ kebabs etc.
The not such nice bits. We arrived with a relatively lukewarm welcome , we were unfortunate to have been there when the campsite was approx. 60% full ,with soaring temperatures of 29-30c extremely hot , the shower facilities were inadequate considering the number of campers, admittedly some campervans do have toilets, however with only 2 rooms with shower loo & basin and another small newer area with shower and basin and two extra loo & basins this presented quite a few problems, to make matters worse the shower in one was out of order and remained so for the remaining 4 days of our stay. We had to complain as the lock on the shower door had failed but this was sorted out on a temporary basis and followed up with a proper fix the next day.. We did consider the extra petty 20p shower charge quite ridiculous and unnecessary and considering the total charge is much higher than we pay to stay at the camping club sites with far better amenities with NO extra charges . I would also add the extra dog charge is unjustified too as they only provide a bowl for the dog , a bin would be nice !
I would also like to suggest some proper recycling bins which would save campers either leaving unsightly piles of bottles and cans as the bins were overflowing. We did encounter queues for using the toilets and showers which has not been the case on many sites we have had the privilege to stay in. Its a pity as its a lovely site let down by the lack of facilities.
I Hope this helps the management to address some of the issues, as it would make for a much more pleasurable holiday at your campsite.
Dear Mr & Mrs CT
Thank you for your review of our site and we are so pleased you think the site is lovely and enjoyed the location.
Our arrival times are 1 to 8 pm and departure before 11am. When visitors arrive early or leave late it does put stress on our team as we only have a two hour window between people arriving and people vacating the pitches - this two hour period is dedicated to cleaning the facilities and tending the pitches, cutting grass etc. We have a single track road to the farm and the two hour gap also prevents caravans meeting on the road.
We have 5 showers on the site and as you say most caravans and motorhomes have their own facilities - with only 25 tent pitches in use at any one time during peak times, that means there is only 4.8 pitches per shower and as you said the site was only 60% and often is during the week and off peak times so each shower really only services 3 pitches which is a very low average compared to other larger sites. From time to time if everyone does decide to shower at the same time you may encounter a small wait but it is a shame you didn't make use of the other two showers on site. The two free showers are Im sure would have been mentioned to you on arrival and they are certainly on the information leaflet that every one receives on arrival at site. Along with the 5 showers we have a total of 9 toilets on site which means that each toilet services a maximum of 3 pitches even in peak times. As with any property we do encounter maintenance issues from time to time but these are always dealt with as throughly and quickly as possible and we are very sorry it is far from our intention to inconvenience our guests.
As a small site we do not have the same budget as the large commercial sites, although, we do pride ourselves on keeping our facilities, pitches and farm as clean and tidy as possible for all our visitors to enjoy.
We stayed a week at Rushcroft Lodge and it really was the most amazing and perfect place.
The owners were really friendly, Rushcroft Lodge is such a beautiful place, clean, really nicely furnished and is in the most amazing location.
An amazing week, what a place!
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was a pleasure meeting you. We are so pleased you found the Lodge comfortable and enjoyed your time on the farm.
We hope to see you again soon.
We came Friday after work and left this morning so a short visit. Absolutely beautiful campsite, clean and immaculate toilets and shower facilities! And also the cleaning area for campers to use was brilliant! We could not of wished for a more relaxed and friendly stay. The wardens are friendly and very welcoming. Myself and my daughter got shown around the goats and she also got the feed them.
We have been to many many campsites but this one has been our favourite by far!
Thank you for your lovely review. Our team work tirelessly to ensure that guests have the best possible experience whilst staying with us and your acknowledgement of this is greatly appreciated. I am so pleased your daughter enjoyed meeting the goats and hope to see you again soon.
Second time staying, was looking foward to three nights of beverages and chat. But on the first night one of the owners, male, was exceptionally hostile and intimidating and made us very uncomfortable forcing us to leave after only one night. Did not allow us any visitors after 8.30 despite it not stating this anywhere either online or on the sheet provided, harassing us twice in no more than 10 mins. No clear enforcement of his own rules. Will not be returning.
Thank you for your review which I found very helpful. Yes you are quite correct I was mistaken in stating that our long held policy, (to protect other campers), that 'visitors are not allowed except by prior arrangement' was on the help sheet handed to you on arrival and this will be corrected so that was a useful comment and airing on TripAdvisor will obviously highlight that policy so thank you for that. We are sorry you felt intimidated I didn't realise I could be seen as intimidating. However you must appreciate that after being advised of our policy on visitors, to then see another unbooked car and visitor arrive 10 minutes later at 8.30pm and begin to set up a BBQ proved that you had no regard for our site rules at all. You cannot have felt intimidated by my first visit at which point there were 5 in your group and 3 cars, having booked only 4 people and 2 cars, as you quite clearly had the full intention of allowing at least one further visitor to stay on our campsite. without my visits there would have been a minimum of 6 people and 4 cars on one pitch spread out across 2 pitches. Whilst your assurance on my first visit that there would be no excessive noise was appreciated, to then see a second uninvited car/visitor/BBQ set up so late in the evening did not fill us with confidence that your assurances would be adhered to, and obviously my first visit had not been sufficient for you to revise your actions, prompting my second visit. We have other campers to consider and want to ensure everyone has a peaceful and enjoyable stay at our lovely campsite, including yourselves, our actions are taken accordingly. As explained to you, we need to know exactly who is on our site at all times in case of emergency and can't just have unbooked visitors/cars wandering around the campsite using our facilities that campers have to pay for. When you did leave the site, wheel spinning your vehicle on gravel courtyard, covering our other visitors cars in dust was not appreciated by them in the slightest, even though some of your party found it very funny.
