“An average pub in a great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

I visited the Hare and Hounds but was disappointed to find out that the garden was closed as it had just been re-turfed. We had deliberately gone there so our kids could run around before lunch so were a little disappointed. I have been here several times and remain unconvinced by the food. It's OK for pub grub and the baguettes are well filled and come with chips which is a bonus! The beers are usually pretty good but it would be nice to see a greater selection of local beers rather than Adnams - which despite being a good pint is from Suffolk. The pub is in a great location being on the edge of the New Forest and with a little effort this could be a great pub - but I don't feel it's there yet.

found the usual helpful staff to greet our arrival Food choice is excellent. Well presented and hot. Portions are more than you can eat.

“Very unsatisfactory food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014 via mobile

We went there last week and the bar staff were friendly.
I had the battered fish and chips and it was by far the worst pub meal I've had in years. The batter was flat and soggy and the chips at best average. The fish was good but completely spoilt by the batter. None of the staff bothered to come to our table to ask if the meal was ok, so I called a waitress over (Zoe?) and politely complained. Well, the rude response was unbelievable. This was followed up five minutes later by the acting manager for the night, I think his name was Luke, coming over and offered 20% off the food bill. I paid for the drinks and my wife's meal but refused to pay for mine.
I suggest you steer clear of this mediocre pub, there's lots of other choices nearby.

“Good service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

We visited with a large group when the restaurant was full but we still received excellent service. Our food was very good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Some of our group had dogs and although they weren't allowed in the restaurant there was a "doggy" table set up close by. They provided very classy dog water bowls and put dog biscuits on the table. We enjoyed our visit after our walk in the forest.

“Fantastic food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

We called in one lunchtime during a bike ride for much needed refreshment. We ordered and sat in the lovely garden. The food arrived within about 15 minutes and was faultless. We ordered the biggest steak and ale pie that we have ever seen, scampi and chips and a child's spaghetti bolognaise. All of it was well cooked and very appetising,.
