Pros--nice location just outside of the downtown area, Premier upstairs room has a good view from the balcony, fireplace, bathrobe provided, wonderful bath products, firm bed.
Cons--very dark room even on a sunny day, room walls a bit beat up, pedestal sink in a large bath so no counter space for make-up/tiletries, very slow service at breakfast, no offer of help with bags(and theres no elevator).

Not bad, just not very good---for over $300 per night.

Very cosy and romantic location. Clean room with very good and friendly service. A few minutes drive from town centre. The log fire was a necessity at night due to the cool temperature. This also added to the romantic setting. The bathroom was spacious and well stocked with toiletries.

This hotel was a good deal for $150US per night. Our room was small, but clean. We loved the fireplace in the room and spent every evening in front of a lovely, romantic fire.
We did not eat at the hotel, although there are two restaurants on site. They both both extremely pricey and seemed a little stuffy.
I recommend getting a room on the second floor. We heard every footstep like a stampede on the floor above us.
We also liked the outdoor 20 person hot tub, fitness center and steam room. Would not recommend this hotel for families, but it was a nice romantic getaway or conference hotel for the price.
Free internet in the room was also a huge plus.

Loved the location of this lodge, although Mapquest got a few details wrong in finding the place. Things to watch for: Does not take Debit, only cash and credit; room was a decent size; beds are as hard as rocks, not comfortable at all; the shower did not flow well and ended up in a pool of water when showering. The restaurant is very expensive and the service is slow. We do not drink alcohol and were not offered any other substitutes. Once you told them water, you were treated like the plague. The meals themselves were well put together and edible, but minimal in content. Next time I will go into Banff for food.

My husband and I stayed here for the first week of our honeymoon and it was an incredible place with our open fire in the room and superb views of the surrounding mountains. Breakfast was substantial and we were able to upgrade our room only status to B+B on arrival.

On the whole the staff were good, but when we had a problem with noisy neighbours they were disappointing. Guests checking out of the room nextdoor had left their TV on full blast and with the sound proofing not being all that great between rooms, we were able to work out which channel they'd left it on!!! I rang reception to inform them of the noise and they came out to check and we were able to hear them through the wall talking and then turning off the TV. When we left that morning we asked if the noise was likely to be a problem again and they told us we had been imagining things and there hadn't been anything in the room!!! A little disappointing to be lied to when we had heard everything!!

Despite this, the hotel was in a great spot and with our hire car we were able to explore every part of the local area. There was plenty of parking at the hotel and the ranch style was lovely. Lots of great places to eat in Banff too.

I think we were just unlucky with the other guests but perhaps asking for a room on the end of the block would help minimise this.

This was our third visit, but this time we booked a premier room. We liked the decor, fireplace, deep bath and bathrobes provided in these rooms as well as the view over the woods (rather than the road which some of the standard rooms overlook). Although there was some noise from surrounding rooms it did not disturb us unduly. Housekeeping was efficient and complimentary internet access was a bonus. All the food on site was excellent. The evening meal we took in the main restaurant was very impressive (although the previously stellar wine list has shrunk somewhat). We also enjoyed a couple of meals at Cilantros (which is only open Fri/Sat/Sun in the winter). The atmosphere here was friendly and casual. The wood fired pizza oven looked great, but it would have been better to have had more than 2 varieties of pizza to choose from.
Overall we had a very good stay, would recommend to others and felt it was good value for money.

My husband and I spent one night in the Buffalo Mountain Lodge after having had a good experience at that hotel two years ago. Unfortunately, on our return visit, we left feeling disappointed.

Like many of the other reviewers, we reserved well in advance and had requested a 2nd floor room with a view. Upon checking in we were provided with a main floor room. We asked about our room request and only then did the front desk clerk notice the request in the system, and was unable to accommodate it. We were then given a small room on the main floor (#804) in what appears as an older section of the building with a small bathroom and a view of Tunnel Mtn. Road. This room was much smaller than the room that we had on our first stay, yet they were both classed as lodge rooms.

Another issue was that we opted for the gourmet package and later learned that we were not provided with the proper coupons nor an explanation of the package details upon check in. While dining that evening, our restaurant server had to go to the front desk to gather up the information for us.

On a positive note, the fireplace in the room is lovely and lots of wood is provided, the restaurant and servers are fantastic and we had deer grazing right outside our back door. If not for these features, we would have rated this hotel much lower.

With so many choices in Banff and Canmore, we will likely not return to BML. We feel that the rates they charge warrant better service than what we received, which is a shame because it has so much potential.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
