My fiance and I stayed at the lodge for one night. We were considering five wedding venues in the area for our destination wedding next year. Buffalo Mountain Lodge was our favorite venue based off what we saw online, but we wanted to make our final decision after seeing the venues in person. Well, we were not disapointed, and we will be getting married at the lodge next year!

Before we visited, I was slightly worried about the condition of the rooms and the thin walls after reading some of the recent reviews on Tripadvisor. I shouldn't have been too worried-- we heard little noise from the adjoining rooms even though there was a wedding party staying in the rooms surrounding us. Also, in addition to staying in a lodge room we were able to go into a premier room and a suite room so that we could see where our guests might end up staying. All three types of rooms were really nice, not at all outdated, and gave the perfect feel between a cozy lodge with a fireplace and a modern, clean room.

The lodge is also in a great location with great views of the surrounding mountains, and even though there are other properties adjacent to the lodge it felt quiet and secluded. We saw a lot of wildlife on our trip, but the highlight was seeing a large elk walk through the middle of the property on our way to an excellent dinner at Cilantro, one of two restaurants on the property!

All in all, we were really happy with our stay at Buffalo Mountain Lodge. It was close to town, but not in town, it is in a beautiful location, the staff are friendly, and the rooms are nice. We can't wait to get married there next year!

I used to stay here years ago and it was really great. the rooms were fabulous. it has been a few years and nothing has been done to it since then, It is tired, needs refreshing. this is disappointing when you remember a place to be great and it is now just ok. it serves its purposes but i would not come here for a romantic getaway anymore. it is ok for a work function or as a place to hang your hat if you go skiiing. But not special anymore.

My partner and I stayed here to spend a relaxing weekend away from the city. To keep a long story short we discovered a mysterious white powder covering our sheets, had housekeeping drop off new sheets for us but we had to remake the bed ourselves (we still don’t know for sure what it was but assume it was dust), every time someone flushed a toilet in our building there was a banging in our walls, the thermostat was broken so our room was uncomfortably hot (we tried opening the windows but they were broken, so we resorted to propping our patio door open with a towel to cool the room down). For some reason we put up with this until 2am when we decided that we had enough of “trying to make the best of it” and went to the front desk to change rooms. The woman operating the desk apologized and we were upgraded and told that they would provide us with a late check-out and would not charge us for our room. However, the next morning front desk claimed to not know anything about this (and pretended not to know who the 1 person was who would have been working at 2am) and told us they could only give us 30% off our stay because housekeeping would now have to clean the 2 rooms instead of 1. We didn’t get angry but eventually were able to leave without paying, but with no apology from the hotel. I’ve heard fantastic things about Emerald Lake Lodge and Deer Lodge, but unfortunately I will never stay at another CRMR resort again.

Stayed in king plasma suite which sounds a lot fancier than it is, not the nicest exterior and interior was clean but in need of updates. One of the taps installed backwards and had trouble getting toilet to flush properly, extremely old stovetop in kitchenette and average decor in suite. Bedroom was nice with great duvet and great 42" tv on wall, no problems with wireless internet. A bit of noise with wooden stairs leading to the other units and the king suites are side by side duplexes, but in comparison to noisy hotels with loud pop machines/elevators in hallways, this was quieter. A cozy wilderness feel.
The best part of this resort is the food in the restaurant... it is of gourmet calibre and worth the price. Many game meats to choose from and prepared in an excellent manner.
With a bit of upgrades on the older rooms, this resort would be a real winner.

The free parking just outside your door is a HUGE bonus for an area such as Banff. Some other resorts in Banff charge from $12 to $25/night for parking.

Won a trip for two nights at this hotel in a premium suite and perhaps we should of kept it that way. We changed our room to have a kitchenette in it and boy we were not even in a room that looked like any of the internet pictures. The stove top in the room looked like it was original and about to start on fire. Looking under the sink there was an exposed electrical box in a water zone. Not a bunch of extra cleaning done in the corners of the bathroom that's for sure! Hot tub was luke warm but looked nice! Steam room stunk of cleaning detergent. Wireless connection was terribly week. Oh ya, couldn't get our kids to bed till 10 because of the paper thin walls. Once they got to bed I stayed awake listening to our neighbors snore most of the night. The duvet was nice! Thank goodness we could pack up and throw the second night out the window, travel home and have a quiet sleep! I couldn't imagine paying $250/night for that. Again, our room looked nothing like the picture on their website. We did walk around and admire the other units which looked pretty nice and new. This again was a kitchenette suite and I wouldn't recommend it! Eat out and get the one that looks all pretty on the internet!!

My wife and I were back at this hotel for 10 days in Jan 2010 for our third stay there in 18 months - so yes, we like it. On this occasion we were upgraded to a Premier Room which faces out to the back of the site. A lovely spacious room with underfloor heating throughout, log fire and all other mod cons (not that you'd really need them in this part of the world to be honest) so all was very comfortable and very cosy. Our tour bus stopped off at other hotels in Banff, and the resulting check-in queue stretched out of the door. Why some of these people do not go to the Buffalo Mountain Lodge is beyond me. It's quiet, peaceful and only a 20 min walk/5 min bus ride from town. What more do you want!!

We love the food. It's filling, tasty, and the cost of the breakfast compares with what you can get in town. We sampled the food at Cilantro's (an on-site Italian style eaterie) one evening and were not disappointed. The service, ambience and food were all pretty much spot-on. We did not eat in the hotel itself during the evening as we found the menu to be rather expensive, but we've heard very good things about it.

The only minus point we feel we must mention is that during the weekend the hotel will fill up with weekenders, mainly from Calgary. On both of the weekends we were there the room next door was occupied and yes, we heard EVERYTHING (including the loud TV). I came very close to knocking on their door to tell them to calm down. The sound proofing between our room and the next left a whole lot to be desired. The idea of coming to such a hotel in such a location for some peace and quiet seems totally lost on such people.

To sum up - brilliant location, good food and good service. Oh...and one more thing..... If you like the idea of being visited by the local wildlife, coming right up below your balcony to bid you good morning or good night (as we had on this latest occasion in the shape of wild deer and various birds) then you must go and stay. Simple as that. And yes, we will be back.

This is an excellent hotel. I wanted to stay in a log cabin style ski lodge type place, and so i stayed here. When I arrived they put us in a standard lodge double. Don't get me wrong, it was ok, but just not what I'd been led to believe by their website. It felt like a motel room with a log fire, and frankly for that, it felt overpriced. I then spoke to them and they very generously upgraded me to a superior room....Now that was a room. Open log fire, underfloor bathroom heating with big bath, and generally a fantastic room. Was there my for my partners birthday, and felt well worth the trip.

Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. ... more   less
