We arrived Friday afternoon looking for a spot to pitch our tents for the long weekend. Luckily Tunnel Mountain had recently opened up some overflow RV sites to tents. It was great to get a place to stay, but in the future I'll try to get into a proper tenting section/campground.

We were on a gravel pad, supplied with power and water. Obviously a good spot for an RV but not ideal for tenting. It was very open and we didn't really get the full camping experience.

Overall it was a good time. Rain was coming in so we left a day early and were provided with a refund. The washrooms were decent and it was nice to be able to have a hot shower in the morning.

We were here in early May, so we could any place we wanted on the campsite. We had B52 and had a great view. The campsite is designed that you park on the road, so you are standing in a row and not next to each other. You have much more privacy and space this way. We enjoyed the deer and elk grazing on the campsite.

Room Tip: For the best view you need the road closest to the rim.

We’re new to an RV holiday, and Banff was our first stop, so we were a bit nervous, especially as I’d hired a 28ft monster RV (ok not as big as others, but still massive to someone based in the UK).
The site was not that busy – sections were closed, and even accounting for this, only one in three sites occupied. The site is a bit car park like, in that you park on the side of “roads”. However, if you’re new to RV holidays, this is a good thing!
The view is fantastic, you wake up to lovely mountain scenery. There is abundant wildlife (we saw Elk and a black bear very close to the campsite). The toilets and sparkling clean (although most of Canada seems this way).
The biggest plus is the bus service that stops in the campsite and goes into Banff and onto the Gondola. It runs until late so for novice campers you can escape for a nice meal in Banff rather than eat in the RV.

This is the best campground to stay at if your goal is to be close to the town. Within 20 min you can walk down the mountain and be there. Up is a bit more difficult!
The tenting sites are nice and they have beautiful kitchen huts with wood stoves. There are nice bathrooms and showers. The RV area looks like a parking lot and is ugly!
They enforce a strict 11pm no fires policy.

If you want to camp in the mountains, this is not where I would go. However, for a place to stop on your way through or to attend an event in town at an affordable price, you can't beat it!

Room Tip: The walk in tent sites are nice. You only walk about 10 ft!

The campground is very beautiful & clean. The washrooms & showers are very clean & free.
The attendant at the entrance needs a bit of lesson in PR. The show at the interpretive center was fantastic especially for children. They made the children a part of the show.

Room Tip: Make a reservation.
