We've been here a few times. We try to come here every winter with the family. We always rent a cabin and love it. The cabins are a short walk to the pool with slides. They have plenty of complimentary firewood so you're never need to worry about running out or paying.

They are located basically in walking distance to downtown. Slight uphill walk back but the scenery is worth it. Deer and moose are natural sighting, even up to the front door of the cabin. Parking is free. The cabin is well equipped and our family never complains while there.

It truly is a relaxing and wonderful place to stay. Prices are ok. Reserve ahead of time and see if there are deals for renting a cabin because they are more expensive than the usual rooms.

We have absolutely no issues or complaints at all. We love it here and wouldn't consider any other place while staying in Banff. Great staff, good rates, amazing accommodations, makes us loyal travelers.

We spent five nights in a family suite in June. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Banff & visiting the surrounding areas... A great place to stay and put your head down each night for adults and kids alike.. The pools and slides where excellent. We only visited the kids play area once but that was a huge success also.. The suite was clean and had everything that we needed. There were a couple of maintenance issues but nothing that had an impact on our trip. I would highly recommend staying at DFR when ever you are in Banff, especially if you are travelling with family/kids.

So, I read a bunch of reviews about this place before coming here with my family (10 yo, 12 yo and spouse) and most of them were accurate although a bit more exuberant about this place than I would be. It is definitely "run-down" and in need of remodel. The decor is 30-40 years behind. They upgraded with a few plugs for tech but not much else. The pool and water slide are good for kids 8 and under - mine were a bit under impressed. However, the location is nice a bit above town but walkable (and there is a free shuttle into town), as well as the on premise amenities (mini-store, coin laundry, fitness center, sauna/steam room). No outdoor play area on premise but Banff is its own outdoor play area. The rooms do have a fireplace which was cozy and the kitchen is functional but very small. The place was so-so clean but staff seemed willing to help at all times. No spectacular views from the resort in my opinion. I would say too pricey for what you get. You are paying for the location really but there are at least 3 other resorts next door that look nicer/newer. Wouldn't stay here again if had the choice but wasn't worth moving to a different place mid-trip. My two cents.

Booked 5 rooms and we were given a whole section to ourselves which was nice. Rooms are ok but our patio did not lock and a couple rooms had burnt out lights. The beds are really hard and caused stiff necks for several of us. Overall not bad, staff was very friendly.

The lodge is atop a ridge beside Banff and overlooking one of the river valleys and with a great view of Tunnel Mountain. We selected a one bedroom with a loft which can easily accommodate six. Like many of the lodges in Banff in this price range, it's a bit dated. That being said the place was clean, safe and every thing we needed. The kitchenette had all the tools for preparing any type of meal. Three flat screens TV's with cable was a nice touch. Wifi was modest at best with a weak signal and occasional outages. There is an attached complex with a grocery store (very basic) a decent indoor water park and indoor and outdoor hot tubs. Hiking trails immediately outside the door had us in the forest in five minutes. Having stayed in a number of spots in Banff over the years, this would be my new first choice

Room Tip: Chalets on the outside of the complex are by far the best. The ones in the central part have a very...

Have stayed here twice now on drive to the west coast. It's a great spot to let the kids get out all the pent up car energy. Rooms are a decent size. Kitchen has what I need and I love after a day on the road not having to drag my tired overdone kids to a restaurant. Instead we eat, waterslide like mad, sleep very well and get a big play in before hitting the road again. As a single parent traveling with two kids, the on-site convenince store (and let's admit it, liquor store too) is a big plus. Expensive but worth it for making a road trip that much smoother.

This was the second time we came to the Douglas Fir and I recommended Douglas Fir to my friend and family of 3 little ones who travelled with us. I am completely embarrassed that I invited them to stay there. Here are just a few issues that we experienced in both of our rooms:
- we asked to have room close and they did not provide this. The front desk staff told us that it was due to people who booked earlier...and other excuses. We did book in advance of about three weeks.
- Our room had no dish cloth, no ironing board, cutting board. All things we needed considering we are a family of 6
- There was coffee grounds left in the coffee pot. Not just the grounds but the whole package of grounds. So this leads me to believe the coffee pot was not even washed.
- Our toilet was plugged several times. We called maintenance after we thought that it was ridiculous that were using our friends bathroom at her place.
- Our door DID NOT lock with the bolt. Scary with little ones!!!
This was just our room and not everything that was wrong with my friends room. The biggest being that the light switch in the bathroom just fall out of the wall.....oh and not to mention she had no screen door on her patio leaving her to have to keep her patio doors closed at all time so that she could let her kids out to play where she could hear them. Mind you, maintenance did come to fix this within 5 hours. This place is not clean.

After pay $604.00 for two nights with my family and a little dog I would highly recommend that you spend your money else where.

Just so you are all aware, I did give a comment card with my concerns to the night manager the night before we left so they were very aware of the issues we had and once we checked out the next morning nothing, absolutely nothing was said!
