“A great mountain escape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

Our family has enjoyed the Rimrock on many occasions. This is a gorgeous hotel, in the amazing Canadian Rockies, with a staff that makes you feel at home. This past weekend we made a spur-of-the-moment trip to Banff for 2 days. Our three kids loved the pool and hiking the trails around the hotel. My wife and I enjoyed another dining adventure at Eden. Whether you are coming with your family or for a romantic getaway Rimrock and Eden are a perfect choice.

We stayed two nights in this hotel.fantastic renovated room and super friendly staff.it is not a walking distance to town so we expected a lot more from amenities as we intended to spend most of our time inside.no children pool and bad food and service at primrose restaurant were real disappointments.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review after your recent stay with us. It is unfortunate to read that our amenities were not as expected, and that you were not able to take advantage of our surrounding partners. We are pleased to offer a complimentary transit service into the Town-site of Banff, a 5 minute scenic ride that operates every 45 minutes. The Rimrock is also pleased to have a pool facility open for families from 7am until 9:30pm, with an adult swim from 9:30pm until 10:30pm.
We have taken your comments and will look forward to using them in our future changes.

Sincerely,

Rimrock Resort Hotel Management

Saturday, November 2, 2013

We arrived at the Rimrock and were immediately greeted by smiling valet gentlemen and doormen. I was shown to the front desk right away where I was run through the layout of the hotel and policies very efficiently. We chose self-parking as it was considerably cheaper than valet. It was snowy and there were very few spaces in the 7 levels of underground parking. The upper uncovered parking had many spaces left. When we reached the lobby level at the parkade elevator, we were met with a set of 5 stairs and no ramp to get around it. I was 27 weeks pregnant and really didn’t want to lift my bags up this little set of stairs. It seemed a bit odd. A staff member on her way to do something else came out of nowhere and swooped up my bag for me. That was very kind and appreciated. I do think it’s a bit strange that they haven’t put a ramp there. There is a wheel-chair elevator for those who truly cannot get up the stairs. They win points on that, but I’m really not sure why they wouldn’t just put a ram there instead of stairs.

Our room was very nice as expected. The hotel’s décor is a mix of classic and slightly dated. It was built in 1993 and the pastel colours of the early 90s are found on the hallway carpets and the bathroom tiles. The view was spectacular. We had a view that was described as ‘partially tree and hotel obstructed mountain views’. That was exactly what it was, but when we woke up in the morning and saw the mountains, it was just serene. The room was much larger and nicer than I have had at the Banff Springs Hotel (paying about $50 more!)

We ate at the Primrose that evening (See Primrose Review).

After dinner, we planned to go down to the pool. The room had advertised that robes came complementary. They were not in the room, so we called the front desk and they were brought to us immediately. The spa, gym, hot tub, and pool areas were beautiful. The rock facing on the pillars and walls made it feel like you were in the mountains even while inside. The locker rooms were very nice. The sauna is in between the change rooms and there was also a steam room in the female change room. I’m not sure about the men’s change room as this was a girl’s trip!  There were personal showers, which I really appreciated. With sensitive skin, you really need to get the chlorine off as quickly as possible with soap. We enjoyed our time relaxing in the pool. The only thing I would say is that it would be nice to have a window open to bring some fresh mountain air in. The air was very humid when we entered into the facility. I understand that it is cold in the winter though.

One thing I didn’t like was that when I went to have my shower in the morning, the water was luke warm and then it would get hot/cold as the shower went on. I understand this as it’s a huge building with a lot of plumbing and people using the hot water. It was just disappointing.

We couldn’t hear any noise outside our room except for a few times in the hallway and a little tiny bit in the morning. We really took advantage of daylight savings time and stayed in bed until 11:00am (10:00am dst), and checked out at 12:00pm (11:00am dst). That was really nice. It has nothing to do with the hotel, but was a perk of staying at a hotel on the eve of daylight savings!  We made use of the express checkout and used the TV remote option to do so. That was very convenient!

Overall an excellent experience of course! 

Fabulous Location:
If you are able to do it, the hotel is walking distance from the gondola and the hot springs.
If it's winter, be advised that you will be traveling a couple of kms up a mountain road.

Tips:
If you are going to stay on a week-day call ahead and ask if Eden has specials on. They had incredible specials on meals for pretty much every day except for Saturdays when we were there… It is #1 in Banff.
Also, check the hotel website for deals as the deal finder sites may not be the cheapest for what you want.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are lovely in this hotel. The lobby is on the 7th floor as the hotel is built on a...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We were a family of 3 traveling through Canada for 5 weeks. We had a standard room (kept the posh room for the chateau at Lake Louise) but it did not disappoint. We managed to have a room with a bit of a view from our relaxing arm chair. We spotted deer outside the window and later it started to snow which was just beautiful. The location of the hotel is a little away from the main street but we knew that before booking and we went for the experience of having a hotel built on the side of the mountain. We were not disappointed and made good use of the stunning views from the massive window while eating in the fab restaurant. Our 10 year old loved the pool area, parking was easy and when we ordered a kettle it arrived promptly. It is worth noting to bring the luggage in from the main entry drop off area otherwise it is a bit of an inconvenience dragging it through the hotel, changing lifts and down stairs.

We had a small room mix up at check in (we just weren't happy with the one we got) and they were very quick to move us. The views - the best. Away from the noise of downtown but close enough to pop into town anytime. The Sunday brunch was to die for. The decor is started to look a bit dated but everything was spotlessly clean. Fantastic drinks at the lobby bar and Diva's as well. We'll be back, soon! I'll never stay at the Fairmont again.

Rimrock Resort is new and up-to-the-minute in every way but retains charms of yesteryear with very courteous staff and doormen in old-fashioned hats and long coats. Everything is set up with elegance in mind. Enormous windows look out on spectacular scenery. Even when snow is falling (hiding nearby mtns), the forest views are great. The location is just far enough out of Banff for lovely quiet but close enough to make it no problem to go downtown for dinner or shopping or even the cinema and the Banff Festival. The Roam bus pass provided by Rimrock means no parking hassles in touristy downtown. The nearby hot springs and gondola station could not be better situated. We had a great vacation in the off-season.

We are delighted to read that you enjoyed the serene setting of The Rimrock Resort Hotel. We couldn’t agree more that the location nestled in the side of Sulphur Mountain makes for the most majestic views and peaceful setting.

Not only is the Roam Transit system a great way to explore the town of Banff without the hassle of finding a parking spot it’s also environmentally friendly.

Sincerely,

Rimrock Resort Hotel Management

My recent stay at The Rimrock was for business purposes. The level of service from the moment I stepped out of my car was excellent. Everyone had a genuine smile on their face when they greeted me. The staff were quick to ensure I was taken care of.
