We have just returned from our Canadian holiday which included 2 nights at The Fairmont Banff Springs. We arrived after staying at Lake Louise where we had a lake view room- absolutely magnificent!!!!!! Imagine our horror when we arrived in Banff to our view of the car park from a wing of the castle. The cost, comparable, the experience no where near as good. I would recommend going to the castle (which anyone can do even if you are not staying there) enjoy it's beauty and stay somewhere else. I thought it was exclusive to guests. On the up side I could not fault the staff.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a view .

We were with a tour group & stayed two nights. I've traveled extensively but have never had the amazing service as provided by everyone from lobby staff to wait staff to even those one met in the hallway. Rooms were small but well appointed & comfortable. Dining was expensive but food was so excellent it was well worth it. We will be back again!

Did not have room w two beds we reserved, upon check in. Took 4 hours to check us in a room, 8 at night. Room was tiny and dirty. Furniture was ratty. King with rollaway bed. Couldn't even walk in room. Very impersonal service. Please go visit hotel, eat there, but don't waste your money staying there.

I will not get into details of the hotel, they are well covered in other reviews. This is a one of those destinations that everybody needs to experience once if they can. The history, amenities, and sheer beauty cannot be denied. And yes it is pricey, but that is to be expected.
We were two couples traveling together, checking in early afternoon. The computer system we understand for the entire hotel went out and brought the hotel to it's knees. They could not check people in or anything for that matter. We got our room 3 hours later, our friends 5 hours later. They gave complimentary vouchers for the lounge for $16, it was good for one drink.
I have no complaint about how staff handled this, it was out of their control and they did all they could to serve the mass buildup at the checkin line.
Perhaps the hotel technology is vintage like much of the facility and needs addressing. It was not a pretty sight with hordes hanging out in the lounge for hours unable to checkin.
Again it does not take away from the fact that this is a special place that you should encounter at least once. For example the spa is spectacular.

Overall great hotel, especially during fall/winter or rainy days.

Pros:
- Felt like staying in a castle. My husband and baby travelled here in April (very rainy) and was able to still have a great time because of this hotel.
- Very clean.
- Rooms have good air circulation, not too dry or hot.
- View was great (ask for Bow Valley view).
- Staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs with a baby.
- Good restaurants if you have to stay indoors.

Cons:
- Older market - we felt kind of out of place in our 30's. Most people were 50+, however this could be the time of year that we were travelling.
- Cafe in the main foyer area was not the greatest for lunch.
- Restaurants for Sunday brunch was fully booked which apparently this hotel is known for. So unfortunately we weren't able to try it out (tip: just reserve in advance).
- Big tourist attraction. Therefore, got really crowded during the day with tour buses being dropped off for photo ops. Made the hotel feel less exclusive.

Tips:
- Reserve Sunday brunch in advance
- Ask for rooms with Bow Valley views/higher up
- Gold membership floor: we heard it's worth a try.
- Pool - also worth a try.

Overall would come back again if staying in this area.

Room Tip: Bow valley view/higher up/away from elevators

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel was everything I remembered. It was luxurious and interesting.Comfortable bed and wonderful tea and coffee in room set up. We ate only lunch and evening meals at the hotel. The food was excellent. We were fortunate to catch a glimpse of a wedding with a groom in dress uniform RCMP. Great people watching.the hotel itself is an attraction. Only one tour a day on the hotels history. I got what I paid for.
