This truly was the highlight of our trip so far. It is a magical place with a maze of rooms which ties into its Scottish Castle feel. It wasn't unusual to step out of the lift and see people aimlessly wandering around looking for their room! We were also guilty of that. I'm sure there are many parts of the hotel we still didn't see during our stay. Every day was a magical mystery tour. Make sure you make the time to just wander around the hotel. It is truly amazing.

The room we had (King NS with mountain views) was beautiful. They are spacious with a separate walk-in robe making life very comfortable for the traveller. Ij hindsight we would have stayed maybe overnight in Jasper and spent extra days here. The village of Banff is gorgeous. Such a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains.

We at both in-room and off site at the hotel's Waldhaus pub. The restaurant attached to the pub was booked out with tour groups but the pub fare was delicious with a magnificent view and overlooking part of the golf course.

Room service dinner was beautiful food well presented and not as expensive as other places. There are many places scattered throughout the hotel to eat. Only on the last day after we had earn breakfast at the Bow Grill did we find a little deli/cafe where you could have a generous breakfast roll, coffee and juice for $5. You could also buy a picnic lunch there plus lots of other foodstuffs like fruit, yoghurt, granola bars and much much more. There were several booths and tables to sit and eat or you could take away.

The back terraces, there is a pool level and one above, towards the back of the hotel overlook the most magnificent mountains. Have an ice-cream from the ice-cream kiosk, or if it's chilly sit inside the vast lounge and have a tea or even happy hour.

All in all we absolute loved this hotel and long to return for a much longer stay!

Room Tip: Mountain side definitely.

This is a big hotel with all services. We booked a suite in the Stanely Thompson wing. It is a separate building and took while to get to our room. This was likely built as an add on and took two elevators to navigate 3 floors. The second elevator was almost like a service elevator. The hallway carpets are worn out and not very clean. The room doors as you walk through are quite low and have shapes of a casket lid. For the first time in my Fairmont stays after the first day asked for a room change as the room had poor ventilation, had a smell. Something you do not expect at a Fairmont property. The manager offered the room next door which was better but still below par an equivalent to a good motel room. The staff was courteous. Not a facility that is worth staying if comfort is your goal. The property is picturesque and has great architecture but dated.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building Consider Fairmont Gold if you have to stay here

Magnificent hotel on first sight but sadly impersonal right from the beginning at check in. Rabbit warren of rooms and no help with finding our way around. Our room was supposed to be amongst the best. We had a queen sized bed and a 'cot' for our 15 year old daughter who got no sleep and had a bad neck in the morning. The room was small, the bathroom was tiny and we overlooked a building site. We will not be coming back.

Room Tip: Don't.

The review for this hotel is pretty straight forward: Excellent. I doubt I can add anything new to what has been written. The Banff Springs is a classic and does not disappoint. Instead, I’ll focus my review on a few other points.

1. Spa: I splurged for daily spa passes and it was well worth it. The mineral water pools, sauna and steam room were wonderful after long days of hiking. It’s not cheap – but if you are able to -- try it at least one day.

2. Gold Level (club floor). Again, this was not cheap, but the highly attentive service, very impressive breakfasts and cocktail hour in the evening was worth it.

3. Valet parking: Not really worth it. It takes such a long time to get a car and for a vacation geared around hiking I felt a bit silly that I was paying extra to not walk to the lot.

4. Restaurants: We found no reason to leave the property and were never disappointed. The Italian (very good), Indian (very good), Japanese (very good) and Bavarian (excellent) are fun, diverse options.

I look forward to our next stay!

Awesome hotel and great venue for offsite business meetings. Great meeting spaces, lots of activities available (something for everyone). Very clean rooms and multiple spots within for eating and shopping. Views are compared to stepping into a postcard!

Room Tip: Almost every room has an awesome view. Just be sure to book way in advance as this one is always bo...

It's a grand property but with the Gold experience the staff are the greatest asset. They turned a fun little getaway into a great, memorable trip. It was a busy summer weekend yet the impeccable service made us feel like we were the only guests. Our room was tiny (really tiny) but we only slept there; we relaxed in the quiet private lounge with handy refreshments, the reading room or found isolated benches to appreciate the views.
The difficulty we are left with is whether our next trip is back to Banff Springs Gold or try Chateau Lake Louise Gold.

aside to hotel management: the above does not apply to the lady in The Wine Boutique. she was very disappointing.
