“Luxury Lodge in the Great Outdoors!”
Reviewed 23 July 2006

The lodges are clean, warm & cozy with lots of space and set in wonderful surroundings. They are set far enough apart so that you're not right on top of your neighbours. The resort facilities, including the restaurant are excellent. The Johnston canyon walk and the Inkpots trail are just steps from your door and well worth doing. Only a short drive from Banff where we had a superb fondue in the Grizzly House restaurant. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again - very romantic location for couples.

This place is in a really nice location, not too far from Banff for when you want the shops and restaurants, but also for peace and quiet (when the day trippers have gone!). We booked the classic 2 person bungalow (in a duplex with one other) and loved the slipper bath. The room did smell a bit of ash from the fireplace but you soon got used to it! The only other problem we had was that the window was above the bed and the curtains left a gap of sunlight on the pillows - we just slept the other way around in the very comfortable bed!
There's no TV, but we had a portable DVD player with us that kept us happy in the evenings! Our cabin also only had a fridge so we had to go to breakfast in the resort restaurant which I have to say wasn't great - the service was very slow.
However, felt very comfortable here and would definately stay again.

We found this little place by accident and only wish we could have stayed longer! Our cabin was right above the creek and that's the only sound we heard all night - they are a bit off the road so no car noise. We loved the huge bathroom with the slipper-style tub, and the fireplace. The kitchen's a bit rudimentary but there's a good restaurant on site. The staff was friendly and helpful.

We stayed over for 2 nights, and had cabin 7A. One room, with separate washroom. Very clean, lots of hot water, comfortable bed, and quiet. We were able to get an early start on a hike up to the paint pots, as well as seeing the falls along the way.

We ate the restaurant one night, and had bison ribs dinner, and they were quite good. Nice fireplace, again quiet, and the staff was okay. The diner area is well...diner food. It was filling and not too bad. Both were average for cost$.

30 minute drive to either Banff town, or Lake Louise, both via 1A, so not hectic at all. Lots of places to stop and hike or sightsee.

Very nice "couple get away" for us, and would definately go back.

Enjoyed a three night stay this past summer and highly recommend the Johnston Canyon Resort. The cabins are adorable, comfortable and very clean. They also accept pets which was a major plus for us. The cabins are roomy and very homey. Johnston Falls are right next door and the Resort is in a perfect location which is right in the middle of Banff and Lake Louise.
The cafe leaves a lot to be desired, poor service and would not recommend.

Had a pleasant stay at the Johnston Canyon resort this past July for three nights in the classic pilot bungalow. Our bungalow included a small fridge, was spacious, well decorated, and comfortable. The restaurant served decent food but was slow. We found much faster service (for breakfast anyway) in the adjoining diner area. The staff was friendly.

The lower parking lot can often be mobbed with visitors going to the waterfalls, but you will not see or hear people up on the hill where the cabins/bungalows are located.

Things were on the pricier side, but so is everything else in the town of Banff and Lake Louise. This was a decent value -- I don't see why we wouldn't stay there again.

My family stayed 3 nights between July 24th and July 27th in Cabin 10. We paid $284 per night, which we did not think was good valuie for what we got.
We got a lot of space, getting two bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and seperate toilet. The furnishings were also of a good quality.
However the cabin was not particularly clean, and was not cleaned at all on one day. Although there was a cooker in the cabin, the oven could not be used as the gas supply was disconnected. Kitchen implements were of a mixed quality. One plate was missing, and the cups were so small that you needed 3 cups to make the equivalent of a mug.
The cabin was quite gloomy partly due to the cabin being under trees, but also partly to the dark furnishings, plus inadequate lighting. Some table lamps needed four switches to turm four separate light bulbs on, and even then the lighting provided was pitiful.
There is a TV in the cabins, however there is no reception. A godsend for some I know, however our son soon got bored. Videos however can be rented from the onsite shop at cost of $5. Selection available is limited.
There are limited on site facilities. There is a shop and restaurant, however these are provided more for the large number of tourists going up Johnson Canyon which starts immediately below the cabins.
There are no laundry facilities.
I also thought the general area around the cabins was shabby. I know that because the cabins were under trees very little will grow, however I thought the site could have been kept a lot tidier.
Johnson Canyon which is next to the resort offers a pleasant walk of an hour to the upper falls, but is not really that special. Maligne Canyon near Jasper is much better. Anyone who has visited the limestone areas of the Yorkshire Dales or France will be especially disappointed.
