“Nice Building. Weak Rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2008

They have put a lot of money into making the building and the lobby look nice. They should put more into making the rooms look nice. We had a "superior" room with a balcony ($185/day). I'm not sure, but it looks like there are interior rooms with no windows at all. The room was very small and everything in the room seemed a bit old and shabby. The location was a bit too far out of town to be convenient (20-30 minute walk), but still on the busy main street. Check in was difficult. We arrived around noon and they made us wait till 4:00 to check in. Admittedly, 4:00 is the normal check in time but it's hard to believe they did not have anything ready before 4:00.

  • Disliked — Room was small, old, shabby. Internet was free but too slow to use.

We spent two nights at the Banff Caribou last month. It is located near the end of the row of hotels on the main drag but is only a fifteen minute walk to the shops and restaurants of the town. The lobby is nice; somewhat small with a large rock fireplace. We did not use the spa facilties or the restaurant.
We had a king room on the back of the hotel so we didn't have street noise but had enough on the inside to make up for it. The walls must be very thin as we could hear all conversations in the hallway. The bathroon was on OK size, nothing great. Our room did look like it was due for an update. The room was clean, it just needed newer comforters, carpet, etc.
Overall, the room was fine especially since we were only there at night and didn't spend any addtional time at the hotel. If you are looking for a decent place to sleep at night, this place will serve it's purpose.

  • Liked — convenient, decent sized room
  • Disliked — noisy hallway

Good hotel - little further out of Banff centre than some others.

Excellent underground parking

Restaurant very good overall - quality of food and service level very good

Room fittings good - furniture looking a bit tired - TV Flat Screen

Bed reasonably comfortable. If you normally stay in a Sheraton type hotel you may be a little disappointed with the overall finish of the bedrooms.

  • Liked — TV
  • Disliked — Quality of bedroom fittings

We booked out 2 night stay with priceline.com 's name your own price. Chose a 3 star hotel, offered 160, and ended up at this hotel in a basic room.

We were placed in room 304. The room was more than enough... the beds had 4 plush pillows each, and the bedding included a nice / soft duvet cover. I think the TVs in the hotel were recently replaced... because in the parkade there was a large stack of 22inch TVs... and our room had a brand new flat screen TV. The wireless internet seemed to work without any problems... and the room was clean.

Underground parking was free which we thought was kindof a plus. If you don't have a vehicle to park, the hotel will give you a bus pass to use to get around town.

The hot tub was alright, but the clorine was a little heavy. Eyes were burning after being in it for more than 5 minutes (without putting my head under)

Only complaints really... would be the lack of AC in the room... but the room temperature was reasonably comfortable... and the extreme pressence of air conditioning in the hall ways.

  • Liked — Free underground parking
  • Disliked — no AC in room

We are just back from a trip with Backroads Travel Company and stayed at the Caribou both at the start and end of our trip to the Rockies. We picked this hotel because it is the pickup spot for Backroads and also because it got favorable reviews on Trip Advisor.
This is a lovely hotel, in a great location just a short distance from the "downtown". It's a 5 -10 minute walk to the shops and restaurants, or you can use the Roam town bus to get back and forth if walking isn't your thing. The hotel provides free bus passes to their guests which is very nice so that you needn't hassle with the $2.00 per ride fare.

I've read the recent reviews posted here and just keep scratching my head trying to figure out what the last two posters were dissapointed with. It's an above average hotel with large bathrooms, real blow dryers, and wonderful bedding. Didn't have to request fans, they were in the rooms. The lobby is very attractive with nice sitting area and fireplace. Did not get to use the spa or the hot tub but did check them out and the facility was very inviting. Just didn't have time to take advantage!!

Room-wise, we requested an "outside" view, and a king-sized bed. Both requests were met, both times.

The staff, especially housekeeping and maintenance, are friendly and accomodating. We were greeted by any staff member we saw in the hallway or elevator.

There is an outside cafe area that is just lovely with hanging baskets of flowers all around and again, really nice servers and fairly good drinks.

Breakfast is more than ample and well prepared.
Great toast! No kidding, you order that separately even though it is included in the buffet.. Again, excellent servers.

The only down side would be the walk to town as opposed to rolling out of your bed and into the shops, but this was not a factor for us as we enjoyed the distance from the crowds of the main street.

I would stay here again anytime, and did at the conclusion of our trip with Backroads. There just was no need to stay anywhere else.

  • Liked — Aesthetically pleasing and great staff for the most part
  • Disliked — Some front desk members not very helpful ,and never saw the concierge

Stayed 2 nights in the end of June. It's very basic hotel. If you get a standard room, there is no nice view, of course if you care for the view. Room was clean, with basic furniture and small TV. You may expect to pay 160-180 CAN a night depending on a day of the week. There is "Keg" restaurant on the first floor, and it serves breakfast, which is decent ( service is very good as well ) .
The hotel is located in the "strip", where most hotels are located, and it's walking distance to " Bumper's" steakhouse ( unpretentious, but with very good food and efficient service).
There is good breakfast place "Phil's" on 109 Spray ave ( for people who like traditional big breakfast ).
I don't think I would be back to this hotel. You can get something nicer for the same money.

We stayed here for 2 nights during a Rocky Mountaineer Vacation. Pleasant lobby with fireplace. Friendly and efficient staff. Our room (#336) was clean and adequate (typical motel type) with the largest bathroom on the trip. The room was not air-conditioned and only had one casement window to crank open. However, housekeeping did provide a table fan on request which helped some. Besides a coffee maker, there was a electric tea kettle which we utilized. Our room was on the street side and very noisey at night with the window opened. The hotel will give you a pass to ride the ROAM town buses during your stay--saves you $2.00 a trip! The lodge is about a 15-20 minute walk into town.
