“BANFF OUT OF THIS WORLD”

The Caribou Lodge and Spa hotel in Banff is an excellent welcoming hotel of which I found no problems with.
The rooms have a pine effect. With large multi channel TV, The beds have are very comfortable. Free use of the spa is available.
Free heated under ground parkade.
The restaurant is part of the Keg group with an excellent choice of Steaks amongst other choices. (Reservations recommended at all times)
Although a short walk 5-10 minutes into Banff town centres this is not a problem because customers are given a free unlimited bus pass for the duration of their stay.
Banff is the best town in Canada by far (being I believe the highest town in Canada) it is full of Tat shops for your present hunting and a wide choice of Restaurants.
You may see various wildlife walking the streets of Banff town centre.
While in the area go to the Banff Gondola an 8 minute ride up Sulphur Mountain. Also next to the Gondola entrance is the hot springs where the water is 40 degrees all year very refreshing. round you will not regret visiting these two attractions.

A stay is recommended at Banff and the Caribou Lodge and spa

Stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed the Banff area. Lots to do and the hotel is close to it all. I got this room through priceline and got a great deal. Good atmosphere. Felt very homey. Staff was helpful. No real complaints. Rooms were on the small side, but we spent little time there since there was so much to do.

We have just returned from a family Easter ski holiday and stayed at the Caribou Lodge and Spa in Banff. Unfortunately one member of our group broke their leg after a few hours skiing and once out of hospital were extremely well looked after by the staff at this hotel. The customer service was the best experienced at any hotel and staff should be commended for this.
To get to the slopes you need to catch the bus which runs regularly to Sunsine, Norquay and Lake Louise and the stop is right outside the hotel. You can walk to the town easily but also the hotel gives you a free Best of Banff guide with vouchers which entitles you to free transport around the town.
The Keg restaurant onsite, although not the cheapest around is excellent and the buffet breakfast (eat as much as you like) for $13.99 more than keeps you going all day.
The spa is lovely - but can't comment on treatments as did not book any.
Free wireless internet in all rooms (a little intermittent at times) was a bonus!
If you go here you are sure to be very satisfied.

First things first - this hotel has the most amazingly comfortable beds - just what the doctor ordered after a day on the slopes !! We wanted to try and bring it home with us but I think we may have exceeded our luggage allowance !

The staff are another huge plus for Caribou Lodge - nothing is too much trouble for them. They would call restaurants and reserve tables for you, they were more efficient at booking excursions for us than our useless rep and would find the answer to any questions you had.

There was also free wi-fi access which was excellent as it meant we could keep in touch with family at home without having to use our mobiles.

Nearly all of the hotels in Banff are room only and a lot of them have a restaurant attached. Again we were thrilled to find that The Keg is one of the best restaurants in Banff and we ate there more often than anywhere else. One note of caution - even if you think you can eat a lot - you will struggle to finish your meal if you have a starter ! We fell at that hurdle on the first night and felt as though we would never be able to walk again ! The portion sizes everywhere are enormous and even with an appetite after skiing/walking it is far too much for any normal human being to consume !

Some people have commented that the Caribou Lodge is too far from the centre of the Village. It takes about 10 minutes to walk (we walked quite quickly - it was too cold to dawdle) and even if this is too far for you, they give you a free bus pass to use the ROAM buses so it's not really an issue.

The hotel also give you a free locker in the heated car park for you to store your skiis, poles, boots etc so your belongings were always warm and dry by the following morning.

The Spa is nice but other hotels do have proper swimming pools and I enjoy swimming after skiing so missed this little extra.

You are provided with shampoo, conditioner and body lotion every day, to the point that I didn't even use what I had taken with me. Sometimes it's poor quality but these were excellent natural products from a local business.

I want this to be an honest review so I will mention the minor disappointments.

The rooms don't have enough storage space - 2 adults on a 2 week skiing holiday have a lot of bulky clothes.

The walls are paper thin - we could hear pretty much every word of a conversation going on in the room next to us.

It was very difficult to control the heat in the room. You could get it as hot as you wanted but it was very hard to get it cooler. We had to sleep with the door onto the balcony open and this is not ideal when the temperature outside is -30 degrees.

Banff as a whole has not changed much since I first visited in 2002 but the prices have rocketed. With our £ at a low aswell it was a very expensive holiday but my fiance and I agree that it was worth every penny.

Got a great price through Iglu who pricematched Inghams, whole week cost 584 GPB each for 3 of us in one room (seemed good rate after shopping around for ages). Initially i was disappointed with the room as i expected something bigger and as mentioned previously there was not a lot of storage space for clothes. I did mention this and almost immediately had a tall set of 5 extra drawers put in the room. This helped greatly as i did not want to live out of my suitcase! There was no fridge in the room which i thought may have helped but in all honestly there was not enough space and the table and chairs seemed a bit pointless. Just up the hall was a vending machine and ice machine so getting a cold drink was not a problem and that's all i would have wanted the fridge for. Received the free bus passes which were handy and the spa was such a treat at the end of each day. The beds were comfortable and we had no problems with noisy guests, thin walls etc. The laundry room came in handy (never thought i'd say that but its so nice to go home with clean clothes!!) The breakfast buffet seemed dear for $13.99 as the ski locations were offering cheaper and we passed many places that were cheaper but it was so handy that we didn't go elsewhere. Quite a varied buffet, lots of fresh fruit, continental and sort of ''full english'' but i missed my baked beans! Theirs were something else and not included in the price. I was surprised at the cost in Banff thought it would be cheaper but it is a tourist area and i suppose they use that to their advantage like every other tourist location! Really disappointed with the only Indian restaurant, very understaffed and limited menu. Tony Roma's was gorgeous, huge portions! Food in Bears Den (inns of banff) just up the road, was really good too. I think our rep from Inghams helped make this holiday great as he was so helpful, without him and the exceptional service at Caribou i would definitely be whining more about the room and storage etc. I don't smoke but my friend said the cigarettes were very expensive out there so be sure to get your duty frees on the plane!

Overall okay but it felt a little tired especially the rooms. Front desk service and service in the KEG restaurant was great,- food was average. Located in the end og the "hotel-street" a 10 min walk for the center. However,- looking at the other hotels in Banff in the same area I would probably find something a little out of town in the summer. Driving from Calgary.. take the first Banff excit and you will drive directly into to hotel. If you are not into skiing or vinter-acticities not much to do in a small city dominated by souvenir shops. If you are not there for the skiing I would definitely visit in maj or september was the tips from local guides. Johnstone Canyon is very nice and probably also in the summer. No need to take a guided tour,- and easy drive and the path is one way to the upper falls. We did the Paradise Basin Snowmobiling arranged by Banff Tours through Toby Creek Adventures,- very nice experience. But to get the best out of Banff, Lake Louise, Icefield Parkways ect. I would not go in the winter. But if you are,- be carefull with the Icefield Parkways.....they might shut it down if very bad conditions and everything on the way up to Jasper in closed.....so have food, drinks and a full gas-tank before leaving.

Third visit to Banff and this was definitely our favorite hotel... The loft room with the fireplace took off the chill, was very comfortable and offered great views. Service from hotel staff and the attached restaurant (The Keg) was top notch!
