“Chill out place, but the staff is not the best”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

I stayed there with some friends for one night. We re not the type of guys who break things and do noises.
The idea was stay day and made a BBQ and a chill out. But the guy who work there was so mean. He was the whole day following us, saying what we can do, what we was doing in a wrong way. Finally, we stay there the night and at the morning we left the place, was impossible to relax with this guy. I felt sad because the place was really beautiful.

Room Tip: They have just 2 rooms, one for ladys and the other for guys.

For some reason I managed to stay in most of the other hostels along the Parkway (Lake Louise, Mosquito Creek, Hilda Creek, Edith Cavell), but never this one. We stayed as a group through the Alpine Club of Canada and I will most definitely be back. This hostel isn't like the other wilderness hostels for it offers hot showers, real indoor toilets, and of course warmth. This made it so much easier with winter gear and windchills dipping down near -30ºC. Tony (the manager) was very welcoming, super friendly, and was a pleasure to have a around. He sure takes great care of this place. The Lake Louise Alpine Centre gets so busy, so Castle Mountain will be my new go-to hostel if I decide to stay in the mountains or not drive to/from Calgary in the morning.

Room Tip: In winter, top bunks are warmer (heaters blow air up against the ceiling, so it gets stuck up there...

Rustic feeling cabin near Castle Mountain junction. There were basically max 4 guests at a time for the month of May.

The dorms were big but felt cramped (especially the boys when I saw the sleeping quarters for my boyfriend). They were very strict about boys and girls not entering the other rooms which I felt was kind of childish and not very helpful when having to wake someone up in the other room.

The girls bathroom was pretty clean and hot water was good.

The kitchen was stocked with supplies and had tons of space.

The attendant on the 2nd day provided a lot of information about where to visit and wildlife.

Spent 3 nights here as a base to explore Banff/lake Louise/lake moraine and do some hiking. The hostel was spotless, warm, well organized and the manager Tony is a delight :) we felt welcome the instant we walked in the door and Tony gave us plenty of great advice for things around the Banff area. Loved the central fireplace in the common area. We had some car trouble the morning we left and Tony couldn't have been more helpful in helping us to sort it out. Couldn't recommend this hostel more highly! And a great price!

Given the price paid, I can highly recommend you this hostel, which is beautifully located in the Lake Louise area. Even if it is classified officially as a "wilderness" structure, it offers running water and hot showers. The kitchen is provided with everything needed even when the hostel is full, the common spaces are nice and cozy, the owner is friendly and welcoming. Dorms are separated between men and women, beds are comfortable and the surrounding nature guarantees a great night of sleep. Very good!

Lake Louise is arguably the most beautiful location on earth. The hiking around Lake Louise, especially Yoho National Park and near Bow Summit doesn't get better. Where to stay? Well, is you're not set up for camping but want an economical choice to those 200 dollar rooms in Banff-LL try hosteling.
Hosteling International has two big, busy, well equipped hostels in both Banff and Lake Louise but our favourite is Castle Mountain, located right in the middle. It is small with 2 dorms: one for women and one for men. The bunks are comfortable and it has indoor toilets and a nice kitchen.
We especially appreciate the efforts of the manager, Tony, who runs a very tight ship: it is spotless, quiet, organized. For people who enjoy a little quiet and coziness I recommend Castle Mountain. The location of the hostel also allows more opportunity of seeing wildlife, including bears, from behind the safety of the picture windows.
Families with active, rambunctious children or party animals would be happier in the bigger hostels - there's more to do and you can easily find a party nearby.

Room Tip: Choose a bed away from the door so the opening and closing of the door doesn't wake you up.

This place is great. The manager, Tony, is very friendly. Bunks are comfortable!

Even though this is officially classified as a wilderness hostel by Hostelling International - it isn't the normal wilderness hostel. The place has been renovated recently and has full facilities: kitchen, flushable toilets, showers, and laundry. No Internet.

I would recommend staying here to anyone passing through.
