A great location and really great view of the mountain. So close to town but very quite and right next to the highway. The Bistro is excellent and Will is really helpful and he knows the place very well. He is wonderful.

The staff were awesome ! The view stupendous . The restaurant served awesome food at a reasonable price !!We were here for a week and would recommend the hotel to anyone. The only way it would have been better is having a microwave in our room !

We stayed at the Juniper for one night on May 31. The location is excellent - it is a short distance from downtown Banff by car so it is very peaceful. You could still walk into town if you wanted. Every room has a mountain view although the south-facing rooms have the best view. Will at the front desk was very good - he was friendly, fast and accommodating.

The room was quaint and updated, although the bed was somewhat uncomfortable. We had breakfast the next morning at the bistro. Service was slow, but the eggs bennies were delicious. There is a patio at the restaurant which was a great spot to drink coffee and enjoy the view.

We were lucky enough to wake up to a grizzly bear outside our window in the parking lot. We watched from inside, but too many patrons rushed outside to get as close as possible to take pictures.

We will definitely stay at The Juniper again!

Room Tip: Good mountain views all around, but best views if you choose a room on the south side

Hi Oscar,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of our property. It’s always great to receive such good feedback of the staff, we will ensure it’s passed on to Will!. I apologize that the service was slow in the Bistro. We are currently hiring and training new staff in both the kitchen and front of house. I’m confident we will be able to provide you with much better service in the future when our new team members are settled in.

You are so lucky to have seen a grizzly bear! Check out our Facebook page, if you want to see some photos of it. We hope to see you again soon!

I had a wonderful stay at The Juniper recently, away from the busyness that the 'Avenue' can have. The hotel was clean, peaceful and the food was delicious. I highly recommend staying here. I will be back!

I recommend a mountainside view - worth every bit!!!

This past week marked the third time that I've stayed at the Juniper with friends and family. The view is one of a kind in Banff, with friendly staff, and good food, this stay is a no brainer!

The hotel is conveniently located just off the highway (which you can't hear any of the noise from anyway due to it's elevated position), and provides quick access ($7 taxi into town) to everything that you'd want to see and explore while you stay in Banff.

Room Tip: A little cheaper if you choose the Norquay view, but I'd splurge and get a room with a view of t...

I felt compelled to write this review following the very poor service we received at this hotel. The plus points were the food & bistro staff who were polite and helpful as we were new to the area. The minus points were the power cut which started at 5:00am & not back on till 10:00am. I can live with that, but then the lack of servicing of the rooms was just laziness. The bed sheets were just pulled back & that was it, I could have done it myself in 20 secs. Nothing was cleaned & the patio door was left wide open on our return no problem for anyone to access the room. I went to see the staff on the desk who gave me extra cardboard coffee cups. When I checked out I was advised that the room was not to my satisfaction (yes, I told you this yesterday) & advised that if I was staying for longer they could 'have sorted something out'. ?????!!!!! No apology was given by the desk. In a nutshell The customer service & the room service shoddy.

Dear Chris,

Thanks for taking time to review us. I’m sorry that you received such poor service. I can assure you that isn’t common practice for us. It is inexcusable that your room door was left open after housekeeping visited. We have hired some new members of staff for the busy summer who are still in training, which might explain some of the inconsistencies in our housekeeping service. I do however, recognize this isn’t an excuse for your experience and can only offer my apologies. I’m confident that your experience would be different if you returned.

I’ve reviewed your situation with our front desk staff to ensure they know how to handle situations like this moving forward. Our management team would really like to help resolve this issue. So please feel free to contact the hotel and ask to speak to either Ken or Kurt.

Thanks for the feedback – it is key in helping us improve. I hope you will give us a chance to change your mind in the future.

We stayed at the Juniper Hotel during the recent long weekend in May. We had a good stay here with our 2 older children in one of their 2nd floor panoramic view rooms with balcony. The room reflected the age of the hotel, it was OK but not great and funished 60's style. The room had a small fridge and coffee maker but no microwave. The beds and bedding were very good and the bathrooms have been modernized with nice fixtures and fittings.

Check-in and check-out was fast and friendly. Front desk staff were very good but we're only giving housekeeping an average rating because they did not replace the disposable plastic cups that we had used and they did not replace the hair shampoo that we had used. Also, in a room the sleeps 4, why are only 2 plastic cups provided to start with?

The rooms were clean but as noted in other reviews noise can be a problem if you're really sensitive to that. The realities of the hotel is that it appears to be 1950's wood frame construction and sound isolation techniques back then is not what you will find in a modern day hotel.

For all good things about the hotel, these are some areas that need improvement. Prospective guests can decide what is important for them in a hotel:

-Our room faced the highway, you can hear the traffic, not loud but it is noticeable. The windows are only double glazed. Upgrading to triple glazing would reduce noise significantly.
-There is noise transmission through the walls, how much depends on how noisy your neighbour is.
-Room carpeting needs to be replaced. The floors creaked a bit, a sign of the age and construction of the hotel.
-The room door and seals could be improved because there is significant sound transmission from the corridor and it's almost impossible to close it without making some noise.
-The TV was the old tube style. The 1990's called and they want their TV back, time to join the 21st century.
-You get free wireless internet but the speed is mediocre so don't expect to be able to stream video.
-The balconies have a solid front panel with a high sill. You can stand on your balcony and look out but sitting down, you stare into a solid panel. Not very functional.

The hotel is nice for visiting Banff if you're looking for a smaller hotel, at a less commercial location and don't need a lot of additional amenities. This is a good hotel for adults and older teenage children. If you're the type that prefers a newer style hotel with full amenities and modern architecture and design, the Juniper Hotel may not be for you.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor will be quieter. Rooms facing the town will have a better view but they also...

Dear Guest,

Thanks for reviewing us – your feedback is important to helping us improve. Sorry to hear that you had a few problems with housekeeping. We can pass on your feedback to their department to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

We are always working on updates of the hotel. For example, we plan to replace the televisions as well as put a new carpet and insulated flooring in. So a few of the issues you highlighted should be addressed for your next visit! Once those issues are complete, we will continue to improve other aspects of the hotel.

Its great to hear that you enjoyed our more natural setting – recently a grizzly bear was spotted on site! We hope that you will stay with us again soon, thanks again for your feedback.
