The Banff Centre is amazing for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which are the incredible international and local artists who come to study and do residencies there. It is also a mecca for public art, delicious food, and has an incredible conference facility. I highly recommend the cafeteria style restaurant "Vistas" on top of the Sally Borden Building. 360 degree mountain views from all glass windows. Best view in town for dinner or lunch! Guests are welcome. There is also a wine bar up there. Definitely check out the Banff Centre for a walk around the campus in lovely woods and sprinkled with public art, and check what theatre, music and events are going on. This is THE place for high quality entertainment in town.

They have very nice views from this location and excellent

“Unimpressed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

I stayed here a week for work. In terms of the positive, the views are spectacular and one side of the meeting rooms face out into the valley. The location is hard to beat, but the Banff Centre didn't impress.

Taking away the location itself, which was outside of the city and somewhat inconvenient, the hotel was lacking charm. The walls were thin, the rooms dated, the housekeeping wasn't very thorough, and though you're in a great location there were no views from the rooms. On top of that, there is no minibar and you have to go outside to a seperate building to get food. There is no restaurant in the main hotel building, no coffee stand (there is coffee in the room), and in general it felt very bare.

We were a corporate group and though we had a hospitality suite, at 11pm each night we were kicked out because that room was placed next to the other hotel rooms and there was no insulation for sound. It wouldn't have mattered how quiet we were, ten people in the room speaking in normal voices was enough to be heard. I can't complain about this other than to say that the hotel needs a better hospitality suite to offer.

The food was served in the Vista Lounge, which did have fabulous views. There was nothing special about the meals, they were buffet style and not individualized. There was also no menu you could order off of (that I saw). There is a bistro in one building, but that was never offered.

The gym was fantastic. The high-point of the facilities, with a climbing wall, a track, and some great weight machines. Definitely worth checking out.

In general, I just felt that this facility could have been so much better. I wouldn't recommend it until they've had an opportunity to upgrade the rooms at the very least. The amazing views and fresh air can be found at other hotels, so it might be worth looking into those.

“some interesting architecture”

not really enough to make it a destination point (unless you are coming for a performance), but if you can pass through it you will be rewarded with the odd building that is interesting
