“Odd but rather good Thai-ish cuisine”
Reviewed 14 August 2013

Bamboo Garden bills itself as Thai fusion cuisine, which seems to mean Thai with a Chinese accent. That said, for a Thai restaurant on the main street of a major tourist town, the food is pretty good. We had a light late dinner of Tom Yum soup, mango salad, Singapore noodles, and a stir-fry dish identifying itself as basil beef. The best of these were the Tom Yum and the Singapore noodles, both of them well prepared and instantly recognizable. The basil beef seemed to be more of a Cantonese black pepper beef dish, rather good, but not basil beef. And the mango salad appeared to be a crossover between a western green salad and a Thai mango salad, more of the former than the latter.

That all said, the food was good and reasonably priced. Not competitive with a real Thai restaurant but recommendable, making allowances for the venue.

“Good for take away”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

Reviewed for take out only

Order was taken with friendly efficiency, even asked if we needed plastic cutlery.

Order came out in good time and food was good standard, ingredients were fresh and meal was very tasty. Prices were on the high side for what is very simple food, but at a level expected in peak season in a busy tourist town and on par with similar cuisine on offer in Banff.

“Food is great; servie horrible”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

We couldn't find the restaurant we wanted to try and it started raining so we hopped into Bamboo Garden last minute. It serves Thai food and we ordered Pad Thai which was yummy.

Service was horrible though. After a 45 minute wait, we checked with the waitress about our food. She wasn't impressed and impatiently told us that our order was just in. No apologies, no comfort words, rather that she showed you who is the boss...

Your choice if you can tolerate the attitude.

“Clueless”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Very disappointing food. At least it was cheap.
I was looking forward to the Vietnamese spring salad rolls having eaten them often in Vietnam and London. Here I was served wrappers full of iceberg lettuce, a bit of carrot and 2 tiny prawns. The " sauce " was either plain peanut butter or some sort of nasty commercial satay sauce, devoid of flavour. No mint or herbs in the rolls, no piquent lime/chilli/fish sauce/vinegar dip.
Likewise the Pandan chicken was simply chicken breast chunks wrapped in leaves, again with a sickly bottle sauce. Not at all genuine.
I even checked out the Banff supermarkets to see if there was a shortage of the correct ethnic ingredients. They appeared plentiful. So either this place is clueless or they are trying to bump up profits by using cheap food.
Just avoid.

“Terrific thai and asian”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

Outstanding fresh and authentic food, fantastic picture perfect view of the mountains from a totally unprepossessing location on Banff Ave. The prices are very reasonable indeed, and the staff welcoming and very personable. Not much to dislike at all, a very worthwhile place to refuel at!
