Went on the back country photography trip August 2014 with Raymond Gehman - Loved it! The horses were in great shape for the riggers of the ride and well cared for. Back Country guides Greg and Kate were both knowlegable and personable making them a pleasure to spend time with. Greg plays a mean guitar at the camp fire and his original songs are entertaining. The rest of the staff were great as well - the mule train drivers and cooks at both lodges were all engaging and had stories to keep us well entertained. The food was good and plentiful. The scenery unbeatable and the photography instructor, Raymond, was very skilled at passing on knowledge for every level of photographer. Along for the ride as a guest was Trish - a photographer for Holiday on Horseback. Even though she wasn't 'officially' working she also provided a lot of support with others photography which was much appreciated. Follow the list provided for what to bring and everything should go smoothly for you.

We did the lunch trip in the covered wagon (horse back was also available). The staff were friendly and made every effort to make sure we all had a good time! The steak cook out was wonderful, with all the accompanying sides you could wish for! I would highly recommend this trip to all regardless of age!

took the 3 hr trail ride on sat with my 15 yr old son and we loved it. our guides were super helpful and we were in a small group which was nice. had not gone before and initially concerned 3 hour would be too long but just just right. experience so good we are looking forward to doing more riding when we get back home. note...there isnt a locker to store your valuables although they kept my knapsack safe in the office. not that easy to take photos from a horse w ur cellphone..just saying. but loads of fun.

Had booked in for the 3 hr trip but had to swap mid-trail to the 1hr due to issues with my wife. I ended up going straight back out for another 1hr trail. Great views and you get to ford the river twice just down from the Bow Falls. some good views of the area that you wouldn't see by car.

If you're lucky you may also get to see some of the local wildlife.

We were looking for a relaxing trip out in the Banff area but didn't fancy actual horseback riding. Holiday on Horseback provided an ideal compromise - an hours trip in a covered wagon from the Warner Stables, up the mountainside to a covered area where an absolutely delicious steak meal was cooked and served before we set off back in the wagon.
Delightful scenery, friendly staff, delicious food. Really lovely trip.
