My wife and I stayed at the Fox Hotel and Suites in September 2009 for 3 nights in a one bedroom Courtyard Suite. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk north of the downtown area. The room was spotless, looked to be newly renovated, and was very nicely styled. The mattresses were very comfortable. With the windows open road noise was a factor in the morning but it did not affect our sleep and we slept well all nights.

Our stay at the Fox was as advertised. The room was very clean and had comfortable beds. Find out where your room is located. Do you want the convenience of the courtyard view, or the freedom of street access. Chili's pricing was a little high, but the continental breakfast offered by the hotel, made buying lunch there palatable. Short drive or a long walk from downtown shopping. Decent value from a Banff hotel.

We had booked a one bedroom suite with one person staying on the pull out in the living room and the other staying in the bedroom. What was strange is the only bathroom is only accessible by the bedroom - which is fine if you're a couple but not if you're friends and the other has to come into the bedroom in the night! We asked for a different configuration and were told all the rooms were the same and the only option was to upgrade to a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite for $180 more (and then $80 when I was really annoyed)..which is not really what we needed. Also there were no bathrobes available at all. And the hot tub area reminded me of a frat party with about 6 loud drunk guys. The rooms themselves had nice finishing and were clean but I think I will go back to the Banff Springs next time.

We were debating on staying at the Fox or Charlton Cedar Court. We ended up at Fox because one of the days was not available at Charlton. It couldn't have worked out better! We requested a room with a mini frig because I had some medication that needed to be kept cool. i could have kept it on ice, but my wife made the request anyway. We were pleasantly surprised when the manager upgraded us to a full suite with mini kitchen and no extra cost. We were spending 5 nights so that sort of helped. The price was 120 canadian per night, toward the mid.high end. The hotel has a complimentary continental breakfast, waffle maker, yogurt, fruit, cereal, toast, juice, coffee. The room was clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of extra pillows and blankets. Kristina, the front desk person was super friendly and helpful. She recommended several restaurants and answered/found out answers to all of our questions. The location toward the end of Banff Ave. not in the middle of town.
About a 15 minute walk to get to town, which was good for us because I didn't want to be close to all the traffic and noise anyway. The spa was nice, there were some mechanical problems one of the nights, but if you like spas you'll want to go this one. It's large and the room is built to resemble a cave. There's an opening right above the spa that opens to the courtyard above. We ate at The Keg the first night, a short walk from the hotel, very good steak, prime rib.
The Bison, very good, Bison tenderloin, pork tenderloin/belly, Halibut.
Maple leaf, good, try the creme brulee, white chocolate, maple, espresso.
Giogio's, good, try their Stufato.
There's a Chili's in the hotel if you don't want to go into town, but why wouldn't you!
There is internet access, but it's not free. Daily newspaper is free. Underground free parking. Fitness room. Laundry Room.

The hotel is very well located. You have free parking so no worries. Very good breakfast and kind staff are always welcome in the mornings! The front-desk staff was also helpful when we arrived. We were given a last floor suite, one of our best ever. Roomy and so so comfortable..! Definitely a must stay in Banff. The indoor spa was great to relax at the end of the day! You also have a nice cafe/restaurant in the lobby floor.

We spent two nights at the Fox in a one bedroom suite and were thrilled with the staff and accomodations. The bed was large and full of pillows and soft linen. We had an amazing sleep. The suite also had a small fridge, microwave, dishes and cutlery and two wall mounted flat screens.

The grotto is amazing! It is a replica of the Cave and Basin Hotsprings without the sulfur smell. On two occassions I was able to sit in the very large grotto by myself and watch the snow fall down into the pool. The exercise room has a bike, gazelle and some free weights, there are lockers in the bathrooms (just remember to bring a quarter for the lock).

Finally, we were quite impressed about the continental breakfast. Fresh fruit and juices, bagels, muffins, cereal and you make waffles with berry compete. Mmmmm

The room was spotless, looked to be newly renovated, and was very nicely styled. The mattresses were very comfortable. We choose the one bedroom Courtyard Suite because it had two floors, however that turned out to be a negative. First even though it had a courtyard entrance you have to go down about 8 steps in the courtyard and then up about 8 more to get to the door, not so much fun with luggage. Then upon entering the room we discovered the bedroom was downstairs so that was more fun with the luggage. The winding staircase was very narrow and steep bordering on unsafe. This is not a room for anyone with mobility issues. The downstairs bedroom had 2 queen beds and a bath, upstairs had a kitchenette, a small dining table, and a small living area. Each floor had a flat screen TV although only one of the remotes were working. Both floors were very small, overall I don't think it was much bigger than an average size hotel room. There was an AC unit only on the upper floor and it was impossible to get the temperature comfortable throughout. Fortunately it was cool enough to open the windows, but this is definitely a room to avoid in the summer.

Parking is free in the underground garage but the front desk advised that it can fill up and we might have to find street parking, although that didn't happen to us. There was free in room wireless but no free business center. There was a computer in the common area of the hotel but it was $2 per 15 minutes usage. The room included a coffee maker but the coffee was not very good, fortunately there is a Starbucks in town. A continental breakfast buffet in the attached Chili's restaurant was included, it was fine but nothing I would have paid for. Otherwise we had one meal at Chili's, I'd avoid it. Eat at the Maple Leaf Grille downtown, I highly recommend it.

Overall the hotel was very nice and comfortable and I would stay there again but choose a standard hotel room.

I would like to clarify that our Courtyard Suites are on ground level with no stairs. These are suitable for guests with mobility issues.
I believe this guest is referring to our
Reverse Loft Suite. These Suites have two levels, with micro kitchen, and living area on the top level, beds and bathroom downstairs. Our website clearly defines room types with floor plans. This is a great help in finding the perfect room for you!
